Davey suspended by Leadership Group

MELBOURNEfc's Aaron Davey has been suspended for a week of AFL football for unprofessional preparation in the lead-up to his Round 14 match against Brisbane.

Davey, was in Darwin during the week leading into Round 14, attending a close friend's mother's funeral.

Davey volunteered his lack of preparation and unprofessionalism during his time in Darwin to the Leadership Group once he returned to Melbourne. The group recommended to the Match Committee that Aaron play a week at Sandringham as a sanction.

Davey is now unavailable to play for MELBOURNEfc this Sunday against the Western Bulldogs and will line-up for Sandringham against Williamstown on Saturday.

No further comment will be made.

Just read this on bigfooty!

Surely it's a [censored] weak to suspend sumone when they just attended someone's funeral?

If he did the wrong thing funeral or not we are trying to build a professional culture/organisation and rules are rules. No point empowering the leadership group to come up with rules to follow and then picking and choosing when they want to follow them.

I am comfortable they have all the facts and have made the right call whatever it is he has done.

i dare say that the wrong thing wasnt that he was in darwin attending a funeral.

it was probably doing something else while up there, like hitting the booze perhaps.

oh well, fair play to the team - they are trying to change the culture and this will do it slowly but surely

There was obviously some unacceptable behaviour and I'm glad that as a club we wont put up with it.

Aaron will be a big loss though.

Good on Davey for volunteering the information. Probably would not have seen the light of day if he kept quiet. Shows that he knows what is expected of the players and is actually showing leadership by coming forward I reckon. I often hear about how hard the indigenous take it when they lose a family member, so IMO I can turn a blind eye to one little misdemeanour under these circumstances. Well done Aaron for being honest and well done Leadership for letting all at the club know what is not acceptable.

ITS MARIC TIME

Constructive post.

We must remember though it was only 2 or 3 weeks ago he wasnt staring in Sandy Reserves.

Probably went up, had a few to drink, came back worse for wear and wasn't his self at training.

I didn't mind this when it happened with Sylvia earlier in the year, but on reflection, I'm not a fan of this type of punishment. In my opinion it punishes the team more than the individual.

It punishes the individual a fair bit, $ isnt as big, and he would much rather be in the R&B than the yellow...

He will go back to sandy and absolutly kill it, 30 touches, 6 goals!

Bring in Maric and see what he can do, might be type of player that can have a HUGE impact on debut

Not having a drink with close friends after a funeral can be very difficult. it is for me anyway.

If you are a profesional athlete not used to having a quiet one or two, you can go overboard without trying.

He acceded to his conscience by telling his team mates.

They stuck to their own task and made him pay the price.

I see this as a good news story.

I'm surprisingly comfortable with this story.

We have a player who was in a difficult situation, who, while behaving unprofessionally in football terms does not appear to have behaved innapropriately in general social terms.

As he was not properly prepared for the match he won't be playing this week. No further sanction will be applied as there would appear to be nothing more too it.

Given his history of soft-tissue problems, it's probably just common sense that he spend a week playing in a less intense environment anyway.

Basically, he's "pulled up sore" from the week off.

Yes but, 'Nasher'. It hurts the side a little NOW, but strengthens the whole group for the long term, it may well save us down the track.

I tend to agree, except in our situation I don't think it really matters. What's more important is that a message is sent not just to Aaron but to the whole group that whatever Davey did is unacceptable, so that when we need players in the team and not serving suspension for discipline it doesn't happen.

Out: Davey

In: Tanking

If he is not injured, then this is clearly a tanking tactic. The doggies were going to be hard enough to beat with flash in the side, without him makes it a near impossible task.

I am all for it, rest the Stars and play the kids. Who knows, the kids may just rise up and give the dogs a bloody fright!

Just heard a rumor. Jace Bode farted in public during the break and was suspended by the leadership group for 1 match. What a f*****g joke! <_<

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
