  1. I fully expect us to make a huge play for someone like Anjes Everitt, with our unexpected windfall.
  2. Personally, Lake would be a great pick up for our club. But. To totally screw over a club like the Bulldogs, does not sit well with me. If it was Carlton or Collingwood, definately. I know it is early days, but I think we are on the right track with our backline as it is imho. Do we want players who will sell out to the highest bidders?
  3. Glad to see he's showing finally something. But let's see him do it in some meaningful games, not just a few dead rubber, end of season matches. As far as oppotunities go. I think he has had more than his fair share.
  4. I had her down as Julia Gillard on helium!
  5. I think Tingay actually went through that plate glass window early in his career.
  6. Kelli Underwood- Most annoying voice Umpiring - Is getting worse
  7. If this is true, it is very disturbing. I've supported the Dees for 30 years, and I can't think of a worse period in that time. I sincerely hope we cannot sink any lower than we are ATM. I feel we are completely rudderless! Sorry, don't mean to be a drama queen, but obviously something has to change in the leadership group.
  8. I think trying to get a kick, would be higher on his list of priorities than captaining our club. Anyway, I think even Col Sylvia has passed him on that agenda.
  9. Don't expect any selections that make sense. I've given up on that. Dropping Cheney and Valenti after just one game was just typical of the selection comittee this season. I'm sorry but i've lost faith in what they are trying to achieve. As i've said on another thread (and was deleted) I fully expect another 9 floggings by the end of the season. I'm fine with that. I can see the big picture. What p****s me off, is playing kids like Valenti(who I don't think has been given a fair go) and Cheney, and dropping them after 1 game. After watching last nights game, it just re-enforced my beleif that our senior players aren't up to it. It's a poor reflection on them when a kid with 8 games experience (Grimes) is perceived as our on field leader.
  10. Oh. I was going to call you on it because my mate got up something similar. But he didn't run off with his tail between his legs though. I just yelled back that it was funny the first time I heard it in 1986.
  11. Jill, you need to eat some cement, and HTFU! Like it or not, we are going to cop some fearful floggings in the remainder of this season. Hard cold facts are that our kids will eventually drop off due to their light frames, limited pre seasons etc. That happens with most teams. The good teams can cover that with their more seasoned and experienced players. Unfortunately we don't have that luxury. Our senior, experienced, top, call them what you like, players in my opinion, are simply not good enough. Compare Geelong's top 5 players, Ablett, Johnson, Bartel, Selwood and Corey. Then ours Green, Bruce, Davey, Sylvia and maybe Moloney, and it gives you a fair idea why we are 16th. But that is a cross we have to carry! We will be bottom 4 for at least another 3 years in my opinion. Personally I can put up with what was dished up in that 3rd qtr. This is not a quick fix Bailey is doing here. But when it starts to bear fruit , I can guarantee we will have sustained success. So Jill..........suck it up.
  12. Was that in the third level around the 50 metre line on the interchange side?
  13. Was at the game last night with a few Bombers supporters, and it was the general concensus that the umpiring standard, overshadowed what was an entertaining first half of footy. But my mate had an insightful answer as to why it happens week after week. His theory is that the game is just too quick for them, and 90% of the time they are just guessing with their calls. Normally I would take what he says with a grain of salt. But the further the game went on, the more his theory gained merit. If this was the case, you would have to say we need more umpires out there, but I think that would be disasterous as there are already too many ego's out there ATM. So I don't know what the answer is. Except maybe sack Geishan, and get more annonymous men in white. Remember the 'old days' when an umpire did a good job, you wouldn't notice him out there. When was the last time you didn't notice an umpire?
  14. 'Collingwood gets a bad case of the Jack' might be more beneficial to their supporters, as it will give them an answer to that irritating itch they've had for a while.
  15. Reckon Shane Valenti is pretty stiff as well. Would have liked him to get at least 6 games in a row to see if he has anything to offer in the future.
  16. Stephen Tingay. One of the toughest players i've seen. Also one of the most skillful. It took us 3 seasons to work out which was his preferred foot. Ricky Jackson. Just loved him running our forward line under the feet of Warren Dean, Earl Spalding and Garry Lyon. Real fast too. Rodney Grinter. People have to remember he was not just an enforcer, he was a very skillful utility as well. Who happened to break Terry Wallaces jaw. David Schwarz. Could and would have been as good or better than Carey, if not for the 3 knee reco's. Only blemish was those stupid headbands in 94/95. Stephen Newport. A bit left field, but one of my faves. Just an honest trier , who was probably one of the first taggers. I had his number on my jumper (34) for years. I got him to sign it once, and he was blown away that someone would even bother. That was in 1986 when I was 16. I ran into him years later at the Cox Plate, and he actually remembered me. He also told me that day about Melbourne trading Woewodin.
  17. Yeah. Great memories. I still get tingles up the spine thinking back to 1987. My memories of that game are Robbie getting crunched by Dipper, then Dipper getting smashed by Earl Spalding. Ricky Jackson flying around the forward line. Campbell missing the unmissable shot. I was lucky enough to see most of the games after the Geelong game, and you could tell something special was brewing. After years of failure and misery, it was quite overwhelming our last 2 months of that season. Everyone including other teams supporters were willing us to win. Does anyone remember that poster the club sent out to members in the magazine, with Grinter and I dont remember who else ripping the sherrin apart.
  18. Yeah I remember that one. I think Steven Stretch took a hanger on the members wing that day too.
  19. And don't forget Jamie Duursma!
  20. I don't agree with you putting Daniel Ward in with your "crud" players. He was an excellent player for us over a long period.
  21. This is possibly the worst thread I have read. Unless you know the exact involvement of Lyon with the club in an unofficial role, I suggest you grab yourself a big mug of "shut the f**k up"! And to also suggest Garry Lyon was soft as a player, gives a fair indication of your credibility.
  22. Totally agree. Weather is not an issue though. Its a winter sport FFS.
  23. I was there today with a couple of mates. But we have just made a pact to pretend we weren't there at all. The only highlight for the day was the new Deer Park bypass.
