Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I simply cannot get my head around this one.

I thought, in the limited times I've seen him play, that he has a lot of potential as a full time ruckman.  This makes me wonder why he's not being hotly pursued by many clubs, why Nth is letting him slip away with Goldy in his twilight years, and why a ruck, who could be playing consistent AFL games next year, would come to a club where he is guaranteed to be second fiddle to the best ruck in the league...

The only answer I can come up with is that I, and many other fans, have significantly overestimated his ability and potential output.

North have another promising ruck, Xerri, on their list and if you actually go club by club there aren't a lot of teams that actually need a first ruckman - and even less if you consider that maybe Preuss wants to live in Melbourne.  It may be that we're willing to pay him overs  contractually to come and be the insurance policy for Gawn, given it is an obvious hole in the list.

This makes perfect sense for us but no sense if I was Preuss. You would be better waiting Goldstein out and passing him next year probably vs second fiddle to the best ruckman in the AFL in his mid 20s. The only way would be if we plan on a different set up with 2 rucks with potential rule changes next year.

What about if we are thinking of not playing Max in certain games to rest his body. For example he could miss Perth, NT and Qld games. Would help him to play longer and be fresher in the other games. Also we would get rid of rucks we think are not up to it, like King and Filipovic, if that is the case.

He is a big brute of a boy.

I get it and he can play but I don't get why he would agree to be an alternate ruck. He could potentially go to GWS and be their first ruck. He would be better than anything the cats could have thrown at us last night including those that were not fit. He would be better biding his time North and taking over from Goldy.

Agreed. I understand our interest in him. I can't however understand his interest in us. He's signing on to a gig at Casey

Well maybe GWS think Lobbe and Simpson are better and Cats think Abbott, Stanley and Smith are better. Maybe he likes red and blue colours.

He's 23. I think we say to him come to us for 2-3 years when we really need a solid back up as we develop 18 year olds. You'll play at Casey but even if Max is healthy we'll at least give you a couple of games when we rest Max and maybe a couple of games together if we have key forward injuries.

Plus you'll get taught by Max and Greg Stafford. By the end of the 2-3 years you'll know everything Max does. And we'll let you go to whatever club you want if you're playing like an AFL level starting ruck and have offers on the table.

I don't think there's a big money contract on the table for him from any club. He's not quite good enough to get the Nankervis/Jolly/Mumford back up ruck to starting deal straight up from a team.

NFL fans will be familiar with Jimmy Garoppolo who spent 3.5 years behind Tom Brady as his back up and played in all of about 2 games. He was traded to the 49ers, looked like a star and got the biggest contract extension of all time from them after 7 starts. Things are different over there but Jimmy G learnt from great coaches as the back up to the goat. Not saying Gawn is Tom Brady but he'd still be pretty handy to train against every day.

Would be 3rd pick is my tip

23 year old ruckman who was pick 15 in the ROOKIE DRAFT 3 years ago who didn't play 1 senior game this year.

North dont really have a leg to stand on at the trade table.

They will probably just get a pick upgrade.

We have two third rounders this year.. something like pruess and norths 4th round for our 3rd.

I wonder if North have told him there is no room on their list or their are other players ahead of him for senior selection.  Then his reason of 'wanting senior games' is fair, especially if he will be their 3rd in line.

Why choose us?  He will be 2nd fiddle to Max, the best ruckman in the league and the player voted Best Player in the league by coaches.  And play for a team that is going places.

For us, we need a back up ruckman.

Win/Win.

North might be clearing the decks for some big spending.  Preuss May be squeezed out - a mid level player they can manage without, and making salary cap room on the way through.

dont let the rookie list be a judge of where he is now.  Rucks develop later, so rookie-ing them is actually good policy unless they are bone fide top shelf.

Been told today by a very reliable source that Preuss to MFC is Definately on, confirmation to be made after finals.

This may be a very good thing. He seems to have more capacity to 2nd ruck for Gawny than do Filopic and King; additionally, he is very big, strong and threatening, and as such, very mobile, changes direction well (agile) and can read the plays for positioning. Got a good set of hands, too, marking comfortably about 10 feet in the air, perhaps more, from limited leaps - so suffers from long-arm syndrome, which is really handy when developed as a defender and rebounder. On that point, he could be a key defender and/or forward quite easily, has the years in him to be trained to such an effect and is nowhere as 'gawky' as Gawn was at the same level of development. Kicks a mile or two, as well, and snaps the goals if free. Yeah, like him in so many ways. This is a Club/destination thing, not another '...don't want to play second fiddle...' type of option. Get used to it - we are a destination club. Get him!

I think North may have decided that Daw is their backup ruckman; interesting call as he has been great as an interceptor.

I think that the Melbourne Rucks next year will be Gawn, and Preuss, with Weids and McDonald as the fwd/ruck change-ups and Bradke as the developing ruckman.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
