Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Jesse Hogan

This finals series has shown we are now in "Hunting Premierships" mode. We do not need to trade out our guns for speculative draft picks.

Fremantle can come up with whatever they like but Hogan stays put and enjoys playing finals for the next few years, not travelling back and across the country every 2nd week and living through a rebuild.

Jesse is not going to leave a club he’s been through an entire rebuild with that is now a genuine premiership contender for the foreseeable future, to go to a club like Fremantle that needs a rebuild and is years away from challenging or west coast who are propped up by some older stars.

This dees team could legitimate have the sort of success hawthorn have had and No one is going to be asking for a trade away anytime soon.

No way we should trade him, he's kicked 40 goals in 3 out of his 4 playing years, plus he kicked 39 goals (15 games) in the VFL as a 17 year old. He's had a tough run of personal issues and injury. As people have mentioned, KPP take time to hit their prime and that's scary as Hoge's is already a star.

People are saying that Jesse wouldn't want to leave. The matter of fact is there are many dees fans who are fed up with his lack of forward pressure and intensity that it may not be up to Jesse.

Are there?

You and a couple of others doesn't constitute 'many' in my book.

Yes, we will get enquiries. No harm looking at what's available and talking to Jesse about his next contract. His current one expires in 13 months. It's a fair conversation to have, especially with the development of Weid.

Those saying Hogan should play as a tall mid are completely missing his main strength: a big bodied, contested marking beast. Any other team would stick him at CHF or FF and say "clunk a stack and kick a handful". We have such tall riches that we're actually talking about making him into a running mid??? Madness!

Hogan may be big bodied but he is not a contested marking beast. Does not read the high ball  so struggles to get in a good position. Does not have a good standing jump. Is not a one grab overhead mark. All of these limit his effectiveness as a marking target  close to goal.

Having said that he has good endurance, reads the play and passes the ball well so is ideally suited to a high half forward role. I'd love to see him playing in that role with Weid and Tommy Mac rotating deep.

He's said feels pretty settled in Melbourne  and after experiencing some years it'd be hard to forsake the Dees when they finally have potential to play finals consistently for a rebuilding Freo side and the increased travel load. But the lure of home and undoubtedly big dollars is always there. I'd only entertain a trade if he requested one.

Lucky that in no way is it up to the fans to make this decision, if he did leave these factors would have zero impact on that decision. It'd be purely either Jessie wants to go home or the footy department gets an irrefutable god-father offer.

I posted in the Gaff thread that I had mail from a prominent player manager...

Said manager also said (and he doesn't manage Hogan so it's just an educated opinion), that if Hogan wanted to go home, and he has no clue if he does and would be surprised if he wanted to leave the Dees, he didn't think he'd want to go to Freo.  He says the constant referencing of Freo was misleading.  In his opinion he'd want to go to West Coast.  Freo might want Hogan, but he said he'd be very surprised if Hogan wanted freo.

Goodwin says he’s happy and required , Gus says he’s happy and a Demon, Jessie not saying much, seems all good to me.

Lynch might be an adequate replacement if he did want to go, but think we would be losers otherwise.

2016 shows what he's capable of: 43 contested marks from 21 games, equal 9th, and all but one above him played more games that season. That year he was a contested marking beast playing as a key position forward.

Obviously last year and this year he has had injury, illness and personal reasons for missing games. Plus he's been used this season as a running high HF and mid/wing where contested marking isn't high on the player stats. IMO he should play a greater % of time as a leading key forward. Not all, just more.

I've said before I'd like Jesse to stay beyond 2019, and I acknowledge he is settled in Victoria. But his value certainly can be discussed and I'm sure Jason Taylor and Todd Viney have done so. Due diligence in an era where contracts mean little and trade landscapes shift quickly. There are many allegedly shifting this year regardless of contracts, denials and free agency: Shiel, Lobb, Hanners, Neale, Polec, May, Wingard, etc, though each has their own individual circumstances. Most of those were 'settled' 6 or 12 months ago.

always good to read an individual assessment...i.e not just a sheep

Aspects I agree on...some I don't but that in the main is irrelevant as thats just my opinion. Nice to see yours.

I have said previously the threat isn't Freo it's Meth Coast. Jesse's contract ends at a time which is perfect for them Kennedy will be done Le cras will be done and Natanui's wage will be significantly lower.

I hate them but they are well run and any leaks from them are deliberate

Maybe if the FD listened to me 5 years ago we would've made finals without Jack Watts a lot sooner.

And what would you have done besides moving Watts on, that would have got us in the finals 5 years ago, when we were putrid?

Very lucky indeed, if the FD did worry about the opinion of the “so called many” we would already have Hogan signed up to a 10 year deal worth 1.4 million a season because apparently he has no flaws in his game and is the best young forward in the game. Luckily the FD understand that he doesn’t have a complete game and such a move would affect our decision to retain other talent.

The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
