Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Yeah me too, I reckon Spargo is going to be very very unlucky!

Disagree. This kid is part of the future. He has exceeded expectations and plays.

I thought they might rest Vince but now there is a 7 day break.

I am not an ANB fan and he still makes some shocking mistakes, but that was his best game this year.

I thought the turnover king Tyson was terrible and if Viney is ok there is the change.

If wet maybe Weid goes out for a smaller player, but he is really improving and his assists fantastic. Those 2 quick little handballs were great and probably went unnoticed by many. His ruck work as I have said before is not bad and his follow up is also good.

Whilst I understand what the club is doing with the Weed there’s needs a balanced approach. Currently playing 3 talks up forward gives us a lot of flexibility, so after the Carlton game Pedo should come in for the Weed. Against the Crows we can’t afford any passengers, there will be opportunities later in the year for him to get more games but as it stands he’s not in our best 22.

I would argue Weid is in our best 22 structurally but is not in our 22 best players. I would be keen to know the difference between Weids kms per game time vs Pedersen. Just because they both can play forward and relief ruck and just because Ped is more accomplsihed at VFL does not directly translate to we would be better this year (now and later) with Ped playing the role.

I think the Weed will be a player for us in the future but for where we are right now I think Pedo would have more of an impact when we come up against more hardened opposition.

Crashing packs and creating contests is what happens when you’re not marking and converting the footy. Yes Weideman is competing, ( the contested marks against the Bombers/Saints were greaayt) and he also has good 2nd efforts in his tackling. But for mine if he at times is struggling against weaker opposition the club needs to weigh up our opponent when selecting him, hence a balanced approach.

Sorry 'Bombay', agree with 'big red' on this.

Plus will add that Pedders is not an AFL level forward, his best work has been as a running ruck and his ruck work as a relief early in the season was uncompetitive. His ability to at least create a contest had gone off. It's Weideman's spot now and his to lose.

Only injury will see Pedders back this year.

Fair point but I dont think its malicious.

Fine tuning and perhaps looking to the future. His form this year is below his par.

Can't see Vince being dropped, the back 7 will stay as is unless/until Hunt or someone else demands a spot. Viney is not a Vince replacement!

Can't see Gawn, Jones, Oliver, Brayshaw, Harmes, Tyson, Fritsch being moved out of the midfield. Viney comes back in to that group and Fritsch/Harmes play more forward.

Spargo was quiet but he was so impressive the two weeks prior he has to keep his spot. ANB much better and I think he stays as well, his work rate - whilst sometimes indiscriminate - is vital.

So with Fritsch and Harmes spending more time in the forward line it's really one of the talls or mediums who should make way.

I think it should be Weid's but not convinced. I just think it's not easy being a third tall, he's had more influence in the ruck but T Mc can do that. Petracca not as his best but I wouldn't drop him. Hannan had a bad 6 quarters before a good second half. Melksham is making terrible decisions - he's forgot he can kick 55 easily and is looking for stupid passes - but he's winning the ball. Weid's or Hannan I think.

Tough call, having seen this one live.....In Viney out Spargo or Weid, depending if we go tall or smaller

very little times last night when we had 3 big talls deep, TMac and Hoges both rotated on the ball/wing alot

Salem was really good, as was Lewis, they won a lot of important footy one on one as the Suns charged forward, Vince solid, so no changes down back for me.

Weid is building ok, a luxury to have him build in the AFL. Spargo will be a beauty, but not impacting enough yet, ANB was much much better than him

You’re probably right with regards to injury opening the door for Pedo, I just feel Weideman’s year in terms of development  v output needs to be managed.

I would be ok with giving him a week off to recover and freshen up his old/aging bones, but bring him back in for the Crows game as he usually does a pretty  good job against them and gets under their skin.

Personally I'm of the view that Bernie still has a lot to offer if he is managed right.  Good old fashioned hard, tough, honest player, with a good footy brain and skills to match.

Hopefully Garlett plays well today.  Back against the Blues next week.

Spargo out i’d say.  He has had a taste

Not exactly sure what it is (sniff, sniff) but there is something attractive about Garlett being in the team in the forward pocket area in our game against Carlscum ... fit, good form, ready to pounce and hungry ... on our way to a Demon thrashing of the Navy Blues (you know what they say about sailors, don't you?)

Didn't improve at all this week IMHO and did far less than Pedo did in his last game senior Vs the Lions in Rd 2 after which he was dropped.  I think Pedo is far more impactful in the ruck, because he doesn't get pushed around like Weid does and takes important marks around the ground. That said, I don't think it will hurt us overly to keep blooding Weid against the blues and he and the team will be better for it in the long run.  ...and the coach seems to have a huge man crush on Weid, so I think he is safe.

I'm resigned to Weid being a long term project that probably won't really consistently bare the sort of fruit we'd like for another year or so yet at least.  For whatever reason, I actually found watching Oscar play over the last few years less frustrating.  On that note, I think Oscar actually played his worst game for the year last night without being terrible.

Out Weid in T.Smith - or is 4 kicks a game his "role"?

Out Tracc in Bugg - All tip, no iceberg

The little paper said 6 possessions. I will watch the replay and will defer if 4 of them are goal assists. Brings to mind the hot Chocolate Song "Everyones a winner baby".

Most on field.

I agree we want more statistical impact from him, but the forward line is functioning well; Weid isn't losing contests, and isn't getting in the way of the other forwards. So why change it?

Weideman is not only taking up space at present but quite often gets in the way. He also lacks confidence in himself around goals - or at least the necessary desire to kick them. He may have a handful of assists (5 for the year) but for most of them should have taken the shot himself.

The last players who I recall being continually excused for their limited input due to their 'role' hitting packs and bringing the ball to ground were Dawes and before him Howe. We may need to get games into Sam, but if his role is just to smash into a contest then he can learn that at Casey or in the park. Also - Pedo is/would be better at that role regardless, and even takes pack marks on occasion.

The other issue we have - Garlett has never performed at Casey so won't make it back in the team on form - such that the coaching dept will have to live with the hypocrisy to bring him back in. Now is the time. He has way too much finishing class to be left out. With Viney back, I think Trac should spend some more minutes finding his mojo again as a forward target.

Out: Weid Spargo

In: Viney Garlett

We have 2 unskilled players in ANB and Tyson already and you want to add another in Bugg.

I am not arguing Tyson, its obvious he should be switched for Viney. ANB or Bugg wouldnt turn a game probably but Bugg has the potential to, in my opinion.

Petracca is always threatening and then nothing comes from it. But maybe he is also getting the wonderful, magical "Goal Assists".

Do you believe Tracc's safe?

Tracc is safe until he puts in a few shockers in a row and that is unlikely.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
