Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Brayshaw - doesn't miss a game and all of them are in the seniors

Weed - doesn't play a senior game. 2019 is make or break.

Spargo - Best first year player

Oliver - back to back b&f's with a much improved kick to handball ratio to hold out Viney

Dees - finish 5th (should have finished higher but umpires crucified us)

The Good:

We will make the Top 8.

Christian Petracca and Angus Brayshaw will both finish Top Ten in the B & F.

Dion Johnstone will debut.

Jake Lever will tighten up our defence and our percentage will improve.

The Bad:

Dean Kent will be delisted.

We will lose a couple of matches we should really win.

We won’t win the Premiership this year.

Bernie Vince to be dropped more than once based on form, and delisted at years end.

Jesse Hogan to win our goalkicking, but Tom McDonald prevented from doing so only because of stints in the ruck.

Cam Pederson to play less games than most expect, as Weideman is developed..

Clayton Oliver to be top 5 in Brownlow, dual club champion, and All Australian.

Petracca to begin his transition into the midfield.

We get easily beaten by Geelong in the first round, and end up finishing 6th, winning our first final.

We finally win a game against Norf.

Delisted: Pederson, Vince, Kent, Vandenburg, Wagner, Kennedy-Harris

Pickups: Gaff as free agent.

Negatives:

Our year is full of Hogan back to Perth talk.

The Tom Mc experiment is increasingly recognised as not working.

The call goes out for the Weed and memories of Juice come flooding back.

On the positives:

Petracca has a solid season

We beat North at last

Sixth on the ladder at end of home and away

Lever, Gawn & Oliver make the AA team.

Hogan, Viney, Hibberd and Petracca make the squad.

We finish top 4, don't want to mention the P word but...

Kochie blasts Hinkley and the FD for Port's disastrous scattergun recruiting campaign, falls short of blaming Watts for the whole fiasco.

Richmond have injury woes and miss finals.

Buckley gets sack and Eddie stands down after more disastrous off field moves.

The AFL muddle their way through another off field crisis after Dill assesses which way the wind is blowing...man of principle, organisation of the highest integrity.

Ladder position - 7th (out first round of finals)

Bluey - 1. Clayton Oliver  2. Max Gawn  3. Jesse Hogan

Goals - Jesse Hogan (60)  Tom McDonald (45)  Jeff Garlett (41)

Best first year player - Charlie Spargo - 15 games (20 goals)

Most improved - the inclusion of Jake lever helps Oscar become one of the AFL's most reliable defenders

Disappointment - Dom Tyson finds himself playing at Casey regularly and on the trade block at seasons end

Clayton Oliver will do awesome handballs.

Lewis will needlessly lose his feet.

Tomald will kick more goals than Hogan.

Gawn will make funny comments.

AFLX will be such a raging success that Ronaldo, Messi, LeBron, Jarryd Hayne,  Winx, Mayweather and Tonya Harding will all sign on for 2019.

Can you show their predictions again please?

I'm going to choke on Dings smugness when I see him next. Would be nice to be able to prepare some comebacks to help me resist the urge to make him swallow his teef.

Oliver to become one of the games top 5 clearance players.

Angus Brayshaw and Sam Frost be our biggest improvers.

Jake Melksham to silence the doubters by round 6, before fading late in the season.

Other stuff that i cant think of now but will claim as mine later in the season.

Gawn to go down with  knee early in the season (Sorry P-man, last years incredible injury run cant possibly be repeated)

Damn this late night alcohol

I will try again

The Brayshaw and Frost predictions were ordinary considering they barely played all year, while the Melksham guess was meh.

No win/loss ratio

No ladder position.................

I will lay $200 on the line, that you and @P-man will vote my prediction as closer to the mark than @ding at the end of next season, provided that Ding matches my bet.

Oops, I mean to say I get the cash, not you guys, as obviously I will win yeah?

My crystal ball is a super-unimaginative more-of-the-same but better. We will play the same way but better (I think in a way that could potentially rock the competition - ultimate daring run-and-carry with crazy pressure and no concessions). Some lesser-known players might break-through and thrive in that mix - Balic, Baker, J. Smith, Hannan and Fritsch (and maybe Spargo).

The players who were on an definite upward personal arc last season will continue that trend - inc. Oliver, ANB, Hunt & Maynard. Maybe Frost with a renewed role/impetus.

The rock-solid players will remain rock-solid - Jetta, Hibberd, an imported Lever, and Jones (the latter truly freed up to play a significant complementary role - maybe off half back?). That's a core defensive-line to be especially excited about, (without mention of its attacking addendums) and one I predict will be talked about on par with recent 'revolutionary' examples in WC et al.

And the concerns or disappointments will remain so: high-level hopefuls who perhaps under-performed this year may continue to do so through a combination of factors - a la Salem, Brayshaw, and Weids. And the stragglers in Kent, Stretch and JKH won't suddenly improve. I'm hoping we no longer have to care. Salem or Brayshaw coming on however would be a massive boon.

Petracca and Hogan not quite yet ready for that 'break-out' season but will continue with their development.

My predicted surprise packet this year is an unfashionable James Harmes. The St.Kilda game was a hint of what he is capable of when unleashed and up and about as a cocky HHF.

My wildcards as to possible improvement: Jack Viney and Max Gawn staying fit and delivering what they are actually capable of on a weekly basis.

Between third and fifth on the ladder. Injuries and slips to still haunt but be much less of a factor.

No great revelations but things coming together in a revalatory way.

Go Dees!

The optimism, no matter how irrelevant, is magnificent. How can we idle the minutes with such a gusto? Question: is OMcD a relative of yours?

Dees annihilate Pies in QB game, leading to Buckley being sacked, and Eddie losing out in a board challenge to his presidency.

Dees finish 5th after Home and Away season.

A suprise B & F winner - someone like Salem, Brayshaw or Hunt.

We beat North.

Weideman replaces Pederson on or after round 12.

One of Dion Johnston or Spargo become established starting 22 small forward.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
