  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Old Lou, gradually gave up trying to be serious at the start of WOS, because everyone, namely Bob (Davis) and Ron (Casey) thought he was too funny....

Yes, it was probably ghosted but as a young boy I couldn't wait to read Lou's columns before the game. I'm sure many are in the same boat.  Maybe it's rose coloured glasses, but I remember that period as a gentler, funnier time as a football follower. Before professionalism made much of the media analysis one big yawn fest. Perhaps that's what time does. Not sure I'll look back at the golden period of Dwayne Russell however. RIP Lou Richards.

Used to work with him at the old Herald and Weekly Times. Didn't know him that well. Much quieter bloke than his public image. RIP.

A football icon, both on and off the field.  His weekly columns in 'The Sun' brought football to the multitude of Victorians who couldn't get to games, or chose not to stand on a pile of VB and Fosters cans amongst the opposition hoards at venues like the Western Oval, Windy Hill, Victoria Park and Glenferrie Oval.  RIP Louie.

A soft spot for that bit of 'filth' ;)

He transcended the realm of Victoria Park and did many a decent thing over his journey. Quite a bit of charity work i recall.

A good bloke. RIP

Certainly gentler, funnier time to be a supporter RtG.  One of Lou's quips stick in my mind to this day.  Footscray were playing another team (not the Dees) and went in as heavy underdogs (no pun intended).  In Louie's column on Saturday morning, he made the bold statement that if the Bullies beat whoever it was, he'd cut the late Teddy Whitton's front lawn with a pair of nail scissors.  Of course the Bullies got up, and on the following Monday morning, there was Lou's photo on the front page of the Sun, on hands and knees, and trimming Teddy's grass with nail clippers.  Of course he was surrounded by a mob of very happy Scray supporters, keeping him honest.

Remember listening on the trannie as watched the Dees and Lions (fitz) at the junction.

Can't quite remember actual scores but let's say M 3.5.23  F 3.5.23

Lou.... "One more goal each and scores will be level !!"

An entertainer was Lou :)

Loved world of sport back in the day.  Lou used to get him self in a bit of strife with tipping, one time i think the pies and blues were playing and of course Lou bet some, can't remember who? that if the blues win he would stand on the stairs at Flinder street station wearing a carlton jumper and he also had to sing the carlton song over and over until the blues players were happy to end it. One thing you can say about he always did what he said he would do, made a lot of people laugh.

May he rest in peace.

Some great quips from Lou, but I particularly remember the one he made on I think the footy show about Sam Newman waiting outside the Royal Women's Hospital for his next girlfriend to be born!

As a young boy I went to a talk by Lou at my sisters private school, he had us all in stitches, I remember it as one of the best speeches I've ever heard. Lou was a good bloke RIP.

Nice old bloke.

Reminds me of my Grandmother in a strange way and she hated Collingwood .Similar humour that was more innocent in some ways, and gentler.

He would have played during the Wren era and been paid from the proceeds of crime I'd nearly guarantee.

Another old legend gone..

RIp Lou.

I had the honour of meeting both Lou and the larger than life E.J. Whitten at the old McEwen's hardware store (the last one became a Bunnings apparently!) in the Bourke Street store circa 1976 - 78 as a young fella. Teddy was a huge framed bloke (for me anyway) and had a huge booming voice in person. The city was like my back yard play ground back then and I used to take the short cut between Bourke street and little Bourke on occasions through McEwens.

On this particular occasion I walked in on either a store self promotion or maybe an VFL ( Chanel 7 3AW/3KZ sponsored?) footy fan prize giveaway competition with mini put put as the challenge. Not dissimilar to that we are seeing on the a Footy show now in an attempt to fund raise for struggling local clubs at the moment with Sam the only one doing the putting.

I was lucky enough to have a go. Pretty sure I just missed on my attempt but the memory of these two huge personalities and legends and the opportunity to meet them in the one event was very special as a young bloke.

His co hosting of WWOS and League Teams was always a highlight and not to be missed on Sunday's and Thursday evenings respectively. Bobby, Jack and Lou what legends and was mostly all on the run and ad libbed.

Thanks for the memories, all the great gags and laughs . R.I.P.  Louie "the Lip" Richards ✌?️

R.I.P. Louie he is the reason I would read the HS from back to front and loved his outrageous dares. If Hawthorn win I will wash Brereton's car (which he did). The knick names and his humour, who else put iodine on his boots so those he ankle tapped didn't catch something. Such a different era than today full of characters.

A true legend

The league teams crew, Jack, Bob & Louie have moved to another level of the building! A level of rarified air, but all is well, the majestic trio are back together!

Lou Richards once said if he played like Rob Flower he would have won a million Brownlows! Sterling stuff!
