  2. Just letting you know in advance, tonight’s match report is entitled “Fritta & Turner”. And for that, I make no apologies.😀

  3. We'll take the 4 points but , sorry to say it , that was [censored] woeful !!! I lost count of turnovers at about 500. We must do better than that !

  5. This night has become my favourite home and away game. It's hauntingly beautiful build up is something to behold. So proud our country and game continues to give the respect and love to those taken from their families and loved ones. This one will be the first without our beloved RDB, which makes it even more emotional. I personally lost an uncle I never knew on HMAS Sydney. Another uncle was a POW in Changi. A postcard he sent from there is a one of my most treasured possessions. Fortunately, both my, and my wife's, father came back to us, relatively unscathed. Of course, we never really know the mental scars they lived with. Our club lost at least 30 players in the word wars and countless injured and I love that our B & F is named after one of them. I will be there, no doubt with a tear in my eye, but it won't be due to the result. ❤️💙🇦🇨

  6. Kozzie, please do not get suspended again this season. You showed why we need you in this team.

  7. From where we sat the forward line wasn’t an issue. They created space and separation, the guys with the ball constantly took the wrong option …especially in the first half. I thought Rivers would’ve been a deserved winner of the medal also. He was super all night. Our defence is unbelievable, we should all marvel and appreciate what we have right now because after these blokes we might not see a backline like this ever again.

  8. Disco’s goal celebrations the highlight of the night for me. Fritta agrees 100%

  9. The time is here and I’m putting out a gameday PSA. If you have never been to the ANZAC eve game before I strongly encourage you to get along tonight. I know it’s an away game but the pre match ceremony is truly something the be seen in person. “They shall not grow old” and great words but I believe that nights like this really put that into practice. We all enjoy living in this great country and this night is for all of us. I myself have a deep personal connection with WW2. While my background is Greek, my grandfather and my great uncle served in the RAAF in New Guinea. They both returned but had their lives changed forever from that point on. I’ll always be proud of what these two and many others sacrificed so could live the lives we do today and I’m always thinking of them during the minutes silence. Regardless of your background or what you believe this night/day is for you and again if you’ve never experienced it I would seriously consider getting along tonight or to the dawn service at the Shrine tomorrow which I’ll also be attending. And lastly, go the mighty Dees!

  10. I'm certain OOZE will be pushing every coaching button known to win this one. But it it just aint going to happen! I predict we will be up and about tonight and get away to a flyer and go to a comfortable win. I would really like to see a blinder from Clarrie to show the footy world he's back to being the superstar we Dees fans know. I also reckon Kozzie will enjoy the big stage and produce some magic. Dees by 30 points.

Gawn - what a heart Viney - seemingly playing injured Rivers - prolific and talented Langdon - an important component May - continued monstering opponents Lever - was essentially impassable Pickett - more rounded performance Turner - lively and impressive Neal- Bullen - in and under Howes - hard ball gets Billings - showed more endeavour Petracca - powerhouse when required McDonald - was impressive again Woewodin- not a defender Windsor - probably needs resting Oliver - seemingly still restricted Fritsch - important but nonchalant Sparrow - limited tagging performance McVee - some untypical errors vanRooyen - can’t hold marks Chandler - had limited impact Laurie - took his chances Petty - slow, rarely noticed

  12. It’s so good to see Clarry so healthy and engaged. We don’t hear him talk a lot, I’ve noticed a lot more of it lately. And he’s been good. Love it ❤️

  13. In my increasingly-distant youth, I played tennis at a competitive level. I’m not saying I was hot property, but I could beat my Mum right? No. She had this way of getting the game on her own terms. My aggressive forehands would be met by loping, loving, lollipop returns with the consistency of a factory worker at Apple. Conditioned to the cut-throat playing style of a bunch of 14 year-olds trying to make the MacDonald’s squad, I was at sea against this unorthodox display of brilliance-disguised-as-ineptitude from my Mum, and I would slam every white-hot double-handed backhand into the net until I handed over victory, and succumbed to a condescending post-match sandwich. It’s possible I’m drawing some kind of analogy about how certain teams can drag you down to their level, which I’m hoping was the case tonight. But it’s also possible I was just a [censored] tennis player who couldn’t beat his Mum.

  14. Fritsch is a fascinating player. maybe the most skilled kick i’ve seen for the demons could end up our 2nd highest goal kicker of all time most underrated player in the comp

  15. My man Dan Turner!!!! Never would have thought he would be the leading goal kicker in an AFL match 😂 His old man and mine quite good friends

  16. My prediction is the Tigers will throw everything they can muster at us early. Possibly even heading into half-time in front. Then this particular thread will become a place of darkness. Season over. Certain players will be told to never play for us again. Then the more well-rounded team (ours) will systematically carve it’s way to a 42-point win. Hooray!

  28. My grandfather was a vet from WW1. Like many others he didn’t like to talk about the war. But there is one special story about him that we will never forget. He didn’t drink, smoke gamble or play cards, except on one occasion he did - while his platoon was on a long distance train travel. He played cards that night and gambling was involved. It turns out he was a healthy winner, so with his profits he purchased a camera. He then became popular as his mates all wanted photos to send home. He saved every dollar he earned from this side venture. He was either expensive or it was a long campaign, because when he returned to western Victoria after the war, he used his savings to purchase a bus, and started a bus line based in Hamilton and heading to and fro Portland, among other places. Ultimately he sold that business to a young up and comer by the name of Reg Ansett snr who obviously was able to grow the business exponentially and ultimately expanded into the airline business. My grandfather never played cards or gambled again. Not sure about the drink though. It’s he who I fondly remember each and every ANZAC day. Lest we forget.

  31. 10 goals to 2 in the second half and only gave up 5 goals all match. Demonland can be the absolute worst sometimes.

  32. He was just Clayton. He’s a bit of a left of centre thinker, and he’s honest, almost to a fault. He’s been handling himself extremely well, and I think he should be really proud of himself. Just because people are different doesn’t mean we should question everything they say and do. He’s not a robot, and that’s why he’s so valuable.

  35. You'd think with Ben Brown out of the AFL you'd give him a proper rest and let Jefferson try and own the forward 50, instead its the land of the lanky talls with Schache, Brown and Jefferson all running to the same spot.

  37. Going full-nuffie today. Gonna go to both matches. The amount of Red Bull and coffee required would drop a horse, but I’m all across it. 🥳 Unrelated: can a person die from guarana overdose? Asking for a friend who may or may not have already had two Vs. Also, this… Forgotten? Forgotten by whom, exactly?

  39. My great grandfather Raymond Harbour fought in France in WWI, and while he came home alive, he did have a bullet lodged in him for the rest of his life that couldn't be removed. My mother attempted to trace her family tree, and couldn't go much further back than Raymond (her paternal grandfather) as it seems he was adopted as a young child - the records were not very well kept on these back in the late 19th century. We do know he was brought up in Bendigo, and that was where my grandfather was born. Pop Harbour was a very private man who did not like to speak much about his war experiences, however he did live until 1974, and one time, when my auntie was pregnant with my cousin Karen, Pop just one day opened up and just started talking. My uncle and mum started to record what he was talking about, and I wish I knew where that tape was. Not long after, Pop died, and then Karen was born. Edit - I've just discovered this on Pop, talking about his war medals. Uncle Alan has his medals. - https://vwma.org.au/explore/people/336690

  40. The only way to watch. Is with no sound. why listen to drivel, if you are on D’land you know as much about football as the clowns on the box. Very few have much insight, and not the main ones. Closed room, the dog in the other room, yell as loud as you want. Go Dee’s

  42. I honour my Pop, who went to Gallipoli and thence the Somme. He survived both campaigns, though not without a major scare. My sister has the telegram saying he was killed in action. He wasn't dead, just half dead and missing a goodly chunk of face. He got patched up and went back to war. (!!!!) He would've been right into the high jinks portrayed in the movie, Gallipoli, as evidenced by his absconding and also playing two up at Stonehenge (biggest school ever! And then the MPs raided it. Alas the outcome is lost to history.) He didn't talk about the war, though he had fond memories of the French and in particular the women. Just as well he survived because he hadn't met my grandmother at that point so Mum hadn't been born and a dynasty of Demon supporters would never have been born. Pop died 60 years to the day of the date of the telegram. It was just a bit early. My dad was in a protected industry during WWII. He managed to enlist then got kicked out and sent back to work training the best apprentices he ever had - women.

  45. ‘You don’t need a stadium for AFLW…’ What is this pervasive, hypercritical dichotomy we have with AFLW? It isn’t just you RIF, the AFL have literally given them quotas for attendance to expand the season that are higher than the max attendance of the grounds they are forced to play at. So while you may glibly say that the AFLW team doesn’t need a grandstand can I respectfully push back and say that I want to take my daughter and son to watch Kate, Tayla, Alyssa, and Eliza in a [censored] covered, seated area. We can’t grow the game when it’s deliberately stuck in a bottle by those that are purported to be running it.
