  1. Remember last year, when we lost to Adelaide in Round 10, and had Brisbane and the Dogs in the next fortnight, and everyone said "you'll see, we're not good enough", and then we beat them both convincingly? "Inability to play 4 qtrs of footy" - we won all four quarters today and we lead the competition for quarters won, having won 31 of the 40 we've played. Next best is Richmond on 27. Fremantle could win all four quarters tomorrow and they'd get to 28. "Fairly soft draw" - we've beaten 5th and 8th, as well as 9th and 10th. Carlton's beaten 7th and 8th, as well as 9th and 10th. Brisbane's beaten 7th...and 10th...

  2. We won every quarter, almost doubled their score, kept them to two goals in the second half and had the biggest winning margin of the round so far. All this when we weren't playing as well as we are capable. I don't get the angst.

  3. Just watching replay. The constant barrage against Melksham and Dunstan hard to fathom. They are depth players not world beaters. Both solid contributors some people need to take blinkers off. Dees are getting fair share of injuries post COVID but still undefeated. Building pole position for another crack at flag. That a fact despite some rampant negativity on this site.

  4. Yeah I was there too and I agree - the Roos also came out to play and were hitting us hard. Bottom team with nothing to lose after being smashed in the media for two weeks while we struggle to really get fired up to play against a bottom team. Despite that we won by 8 goals and would've been 12-15 goals had we not been so inaccurate (and they had not been as accurate). Anyone complaining needs their head read, we were never losing this. We are undefeated with the biggest percentage after 10 rounds. How often does this come round? Enjoy it for God's sake, this is the best period in my life as a Melbourne supporter and maybe it will be the best period I ever experience. I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth.

  5. I feel like MFCSS has gone through a mutation this year, whereas in times gone by we expected them to play terribly all the time. These days many here have an unreasonable expectation that we are at the top of our game week in week out with no players allowed to have a bad game. Breathe.

  6. Melbourne supporters who say that was the most “pathetic” football we have played in a long time and that we’re “not a proper team” don’t have a basic understanding of football. Melbourne are a system-based team. This means that our team is designed to play the same way week in, week out. We could be like Geelong and change tactics every week to smash bottom sides by 80+, but that’s what let’s you down in finals. That’s why teams like Geelong have done nothing in September. Some of our fans have no idea just how good we have it. We had the same type of performances against bottom teams last year and what happened? We won the [censored] premiership. So those people suggesting that we’re not gonna perform against the better teams as a result of how we played today are absolutely clueless about the game.

  7. We could hardly have asked for a better set of results this weekend.

  8. Did you notice a player in number 13 for us? He was so far BOG, that he may have got all 6 votes from the umpires and I for one would say that wasn’t even enough. I have never seen anyone do some of the things he does. We had Robbie the most skilled player I have ever seen. We now have Clarrie, the best contested possession player I have ever seen, who I am simply in awe of and am so grateful he is one of ours. Thank you Jason Taylor.

  9. What is denial but the refusal to accept objective facts; who won the flag last year after losing to 17th, 15th and drawing with 14th? That’s a rhetorical question. We will see what the next two weeks bring and what that means for this year but maybe you’re the one who needs to give themselves up to the truth; we are the standard in the league and even our form will fluctuate like any team’s does, but we are still the standard.

  11. Was a poster on here last year liked to deride the teams performance, make predictions like won't make top 4 lucky to make the 8 etc. Strangely been missing since the grand final win.

  15. You play the team in front of you on its merits with what you have. Too many people on this forum seem to think there is a fantasy land where perfect teams play perfect football against oppositions who roll over. In the real world, great football looks like this. Not everything goes to script but you are good enough to overcome whatever is thrown at you. This is absolutely the best team in the league right now. Sure, some weeks our kicking is a little off, other weeks our clearances work is not dominant. Regardless, we find a way to overcome our opposition. These teams lower on the ladder are free to try some really interesting things to penetrate our defensive zone. We will be learning a lot by having to deal with it. It’s not shameful to encounter something new and struggle to counter it, that’s us learning and adapting. I actually think we could have been in trouble if north could have executed the basics a bit better, there strategy for moving the ball was pretty good. Sooner or later we are going to drop one because no team can be this dominant all the time. I for one am enjoying this immensely. I don’t need to pick at the little imperfections each week, I’m just enjoying watching us find different ways to win.

  18. You will be on the ignore button, so you can suit yourself. I knew this year would be a grind. This Club only learnt to win a Flag again last year, and now they are learning how to defend their achievements on the run, against 17 other opponents who all want to kill us So far we are 10-0 i am proud of the boys Right- Do you understand?? now be quiet

  23. I get as frustrated as anyone over unclean footy, and would love us to monster these struggling teams. But we won! We are the reigning premiers, we are 10-0, and we have a defence and midfield the envy of the competition. I spent too many years moaning through each season - I'm going to enjoy this. I understand people thinking that Lions or Freo could be considered better teams at the moment, but the ladder says we are unbeaten and they aren't so I continue to hold the Dees as the best team at the moment I agree with various comments above re Melksham and Dunstan being required backup, but Dunstan is a momentum killer for mine and I would prefer to see Bedford, Woewodin, Rosman, get a go, especially against lower teams. Toast and coffee being enjoyed immensely this morning.

  24. A few supporters are hard to please. Early 80s at the G you would only go to watch Robbie! 1st year of Roos and pre Roos there were some horrible losses and we didn’t win to often. We have a great team, who play fantastic team football, with some generational players, who have delivered a flag and taken us to 10-0! So for crying out loud…….Enjoy Every Win! Keep going Demons!!!!

  25. Some of you just don’t know how long a footy season is to play. The fact that we won so convincingly when they obviously steeled themselves for this, is testament to the great group we have. Also, we are in better form than last year. That doesn’t mean anything for the end of the year but we are in another great spot.

  27. Re crowd numbers, I don’t begrudge people’s choice or (in)ability to attend games. All I will say is that our team has evolved into a once-in-a-lifetime champion team and every performance - much better seen and experienced in the flesh if you can do so - is to be treasured and savoured. Thank you, MFC/Narrm, I for one will never get enough of this winning feeling!

  28. I had the pleasure of sitting next to a passionate (and loud, even for the cheer squad) 10yo boy for the last quarter. This kid hasn’t experienced the abject pain and despair that we all have. His enthusiasm and blind adoration was infectious. My point is, regardless of age, just revel in the moment, peeps. Stop dwelling in the past and/or worrying about the future ffs. Incidentally, we were talking about certain moments in the GF. I told him when Bont got them to 19 pts up I went outside and smoked a cigarette and cried. He says, “me too! I went to my bedroom and played Fortnite and cried.” Bless.

  29. I think it is because our focus is forward defence, and we always have the option of Gawn/Jackson being down there too. That means we would lose a Kossie/Nibbler/Spargo type player who is critical to our system. I would suggest we have 2 key talls plus resting ruck as our blueprint, with a mid forward (frittata) and the smalls.

  30. There were periods when we had long runs of forward half possession where they had 13, 14, 15 players in our forward 50. They played us very close and very hard. I liked their endeavour. They gave away a lot more free kicks than we’re paid but they can’t pay them all. We were being tackled before we took possession in the contest more often than not. We are never going to look fluent going forward when there is that little room in our forward line, when our talks are competing with multiple players in the air etc. Goodwin was pleased with the amount of time we controlled the game and played a forward half game which we’ve been trying to get going all season. It’s one of the stats that are down from last year. So that’s a positive amongst the scrap that the game was. against better teams and teams that try and win with their game the field opens up they get caught on the rebound and our forward line has room for our forwards to operate. Our system is designed to win hard games of football with something on the line. Where a team needs to kick a winning score. North and west coast were not trying to do that. So it looked a bit [censored].

  42. With respect Jaded, I live only 19km from Marvel and I didn’t get home until 10pm. And I’m guessing you didn’t have to contend with junkies aggressively botting cigarettes or money or both. I’m also guessing you didn’t have to sit on a replacement bus opposite a dirty old drunk who every two minutes would ask you how “your bombers” fared tonight. The thing is, and I’m not having a go at you, nor am I trying to guilt anyone out, if you are determined enough and really do wanna be there, you’ll make it happen. You’ll manifest that [censored]. And despite all the inconveniences you’ll be glad you did.

  43. The last two games the opposition have thrown everything that they could muster at us, we kept resetting slowly grinding them down and then kicking away to win comfortably. Very difficult to take advantage of forward 50 entries when they have the bulk of their team in our forward line. Not to mention the questionable tactics like blocking, holding and punching arms that they got away with on most occasions where we had to resort to team brilliance and silky skills to penetrate the mall. At least when you play good teams you have the opportunity to display your skills and team work to full advantage. The good thing is that we have shown that we have the toughness and grit to tough it out until the worm turns our way. Go Dees.!!!!!!

  44. My take: we smashed them in shots on goal and inside 50’s. Our poor inside 50 marking (we dropped way too many markable passes) and our goal kicking accuracy cost us a bigger win, but didn't cost us anything else. They had 13 shots, we had 14 goals, plus 16 points. our system stacks up, and our ability to keep at it until the game turns to the demon way is impressive. Role playing for 4 quarters is a tough thing to do. Gus had a bad start, Brownie tried too hard and let himself down in his 150th. Lingers was missed. We seemed to play Gawn forward a lot tonight, too. Dunstan shaky early but got cleaner later. Oliver was simply brilliant. Lots of touches, but unlike a [censored] like Mitchell, they were at the coalface and were high value. Strangely muted feeling for such a dominant display and a big win. I think we let ourselves down on what could have been a parade. i love being NARRM and all that this says about our club. Go Narrm, go Dees.

  45. We have a substantial number of MCC members and others who go to the G and that is it. The AFL don't care about people going ahead of watching on the media. Terrible game time, cold evening/ night. Funny as it sounds we have won a flag, 10 on the Trott this year and people think easy win against North, cold night, people don't like Marvel I will watch from the comfort of home. Not everyone is a fanatic like yourself DD. Not so many years ago I was like you but the aging process has got to me. I buy a membership to support the club then pick and choose when I attend. Sad but that is the way it is.

  46. We dominated time in forward half and generated 30 scoring shots whilst conceding only 13. Inaccuracy meant the margin was 47 instead of 77. We continue to deploy the same method each week, treating each opponent equally, and assuming each one brings its best. North's only played one game as well as they played today, and that was when the led Sydney in the fourth quarter in Round 4. West Coast last week probably hasn't brought that level of application in any other game this year barring perhaps its win over Collingwood. I don't really know, or care, why that is, because we won't be playing North or West Coast in September. What I care about is that we approach games wanting to play our brand, and each week we play our brand. So on a night where we went in with four premiership players missing, lost a fifth in the first quarter, appeared to end with another one or two injured, when our opponent lifts, we turn it over too much, and we miss easy shots on goal, we still generated 30 scoring shots to 13, with 40 more inside 50s, and won by 47. I imagine if anyone had said that about one of our losses in 2013, you would have gone ballistic. As to "inaccurate as always" - tonight was the third time this year that we've scored more behinds than goals. That's 30%. Not "always".

  47. I was at the ground today and I sat myself behind the Melbourne goals in the final quarter. The kangaroo defenders were taking it in turns to block Max out of marking contests and after succeeding 3 times the umpires penalised them the 4th time. Gross cheating by North who could do nothing else

  48. Just amazing how people's goalposts have shifted since we've become a good side. I get that we're better now and should expect better, but my word the entitlement creeping in here is worrisome.

  49. Both North and Eagles arguably put up their biggest fights of the year against us outside of their wins. If North go into that with their normal plan we win by 180 points. They threw everything at us and it was still almost a 10 goal win. What do you people want?
