The MFC and our former President Glen Bartlett have buried the hatchet! Not specifically part of the review but a great step forward demons-settle-with-glen-bartlett-apologise-to-simon-goodwin The Joint Statement: The Board of the Melbourne Football Club, Mr GB and Ms VS, are pleased to announce that all proceedings between them have been resolved to the satisfaction of all parties. A confidential settlement has been entered into between the parties to avoid the costs of litigation for all. Individual recollections and perspectives can differ and lead to many feeling aggrieved. The parties recognise that the last three years of dispute have been a difficult and stressful time for all and acknowledge that the matter could have been handled differently. All parties are sorry for the hurt that has been caused. The Board acknowledges and thanks Glen for the important role he played as President, having overseen the resurgence in the Club’s fortunes. Glen focused on cultural change including the development of the Club values, now known as “TRUE”, of Trust, Respect, Unity and Excellence which are reflective of values based leadership. Glen is proud of the improvements he introduced to the Club as President. During the period in which GB was the Club’s President, serious allegations about Simon Goodwin’s use of illicit drugs were passed onto and duly investigated by the Club. It was found that the allegations were false and had no basis in fact. These allegations have caused enormous hurt and pain for Simon and his family for which all parties are deeply sorry. This brings these matters to an end for all time. Simon Goodwin is a highly regarded and respected Demons premiership coach. The Board and GB agree that focussing on the future of the Club and particularly the welfare of its people is the most important priority. The Board and Glen look forward to the future including the continued success of the club. (names to show only initials). Huge kudos to Brad Green and Co to achieve what seems a major breakthrough. The club can now move forward with a truly fresh start off the field without distractions. 2025 - a year to let our football to do the talking!32 points

Just wanted to share with everyone that my mum went to a luncheon last week at the Australian club where Jason Taylor was the guest speaker. Jason informed everyone in the room that Melbourne will be drafting midfielders this year. So I doubt we’ll see Harry Armstrong in the red and blue next year.30 points

Brad's achievements in a few short months. Seamless and bloodless transition to lead the Board Drove the FD and Board reviews (and will oversee their implementation) Negotiated the departure of our CEO Facilitated the arrival of Steve Smith (pending voting) and succession plan to be the next Board leader Ended the off-field legal dramas taking the unwarranted heat of our coach and our club. In a few short months he has neutralised the topics creating negative media attention. 👏👏👏 I will confess I was a bit 'meh' when he joined the Board and thought replacing Roffey was just window dressing. I was very very wrong! If he does nothing else he has been incredibly successful in laying the foundations for our stability, growth and success. Change management is one of the hardest things for any organisation to undertake and Brad hasn't put a foot wrong.29 points

The parties have come to agreement. Former President Glen Bartlett’s contribution over his long period of service to the club and it’s revival has been acknowledged and recognized and allegations regarding our premiership coach Simon Goodwin have rightfully been discredited. Let's move on and support the Demons as they rise to the task of winning the 2025 premiership.26 points

Brad has never led a major business/organistion and may be wondering (or have wondered) "...what do I know about chairing a footy club - or anything else..?" Rest assured Brad your'e doing just fine and are a credit to yourself and your playing reputation. Lucky to have him as one of us.19 points

Feels like Green is doing a good job allowing the club to focus on what’s important by putting to bed some outside noise. 👍👏9 points

Gus was initially part of this in some respect but came out after the first game and said he couldn't handle the emotions etc of not being able to be out there and felt it was best for himself to step away and focus on non footy stuff for a bit. Hopefully back at some point though.7 points

He's an interesting one for me. Despite being labeled the big inside bull, on my viewing he's at this best on the outside using a side step and driving the ball forward with nice kicking when he has time. His contest work could use improvement. He doesn't have the same natural ability of a Smith or Langford to get his hand free and nail quick handballs. He's also not strong or clean enough in aerial contests to develop into a key position player instead despite his decent size if he's still growing. If his inside work could be improved with good coaching, he could be an absolute weapon. His ceiling is Patrick Cripps then basically. My fear is his floor is a tall average paced rebounding halfback flanker. I won't be disappointed if we draft him due to potential ceiling, but he's definitely a more risky prospect than others around the same projected draft position.6 points

I do actually think leadership on the park has been an issue of late, mainly that it's probably been the same voices for too long and it's become a little stale. That doesn't been we throw it all out and make Rivers captain with Koz as the vice, but looking to freshen things up is a very good thing and I'm glad that this review is creating a shift in thinking. Hearing Max say "we aren't the 2021 demons" to me says that we have been holding onto what we were instead of looking to be what we can/want to be.6 points

Reasonable question. I see him as a future leader too. A big reason is arguably the most common trait of leaders is they leave no stone unturned in terms of realising their potential. Judd was on the rookie list, so not some uber talented, highly rated high draft pick. My understanding is he was no lock to stay on the rookie list, let alone the senior list. He was at the crossroads. During the 2023 preseason break Judd took it on himself to do extra work to get AFL fit, build his tank and increase his acceleration. On the back of that work he was a shock 2023 round one selection. He has been a best 22 lock since. Another big tick in terms of leadership is IIRC he wasn't a defender as a junior or at Casey. Yet that is where he was selected round one 2023 (and since). We needed a half back flanker with good kicking skills, they identified Judd as having the right attributes and defensive discipline and he stepped up and made the role his own.5 points

Still our most important forward. Managing 41 goals in a season as a medium forward when he wasn't 100% fit, alongside our poor forward entries is an impressive feat. I loved watching him tear Hawthorn apart in the final quarter earlier this year. I think he kicked 3.1 and took a ripper over Sicily in the space of six minutes. The dribbler to seal the win against Geelong was another obvious highlight.5 points

The previous administration couldn't/didn't get it done, and under his stewardship its done. Not sure why the negativity.5 points

just engaged! he might be undersized, but he's our #1 forward 2024 was one of his poorer seasons since becoming our key forward circa 2020, and he STILL kicked over 40 goals in a side that finished 14th he looked like he was carrying an injury this year; we need him to bounce back in 2025 and get up that 55-65 goals per year5 points

Would’ve thought Sparrow just needs to focus on developing his game. Has stalled and is at risk of not being a regular firsts player next year unless he improves.5 points

It seems to me that when Gus stopped having any input, on the field or off, we suffered badly, could we have Gus back as a part time runner or something, go Dee's5 points

Putting 2 + 2 together it appears to me the club review uncovered that they need to relax and have more fun in their approach to footy. That was Hawthorn last year and it sounds like Goody was told to lighten up. Maybe we should get Fev & Capper down to the club on a consulting basis?5 points

It depends if you’re after one specific player above all others or are happy to select from a group of players that you’re interested in. Two examples to illustrate. If the following players were available at pick 9: Lachie Hunter, Josh Schache, Kyah Farris-White and Caleb Windsor, then you would obviously reject all offers and select Windsor because you think he’s much, much better than the other players available. If the following players were available at pick 9: Petracca, Gawn, Oliver, May and Lever, then you’d consider trading down from pick 9 to pick 12 because you rate those players very similarly, taking on pick 25 to do so and selecting Trent Rivers. In this case you’re saying that you’d rather have Oliver and Rivers than just Petracca by himself. It’s situationally dependent and we’ll have the ability to make that call depending on who is available at pick 9 on the night.4 points

Once again the club’s top goal scorer but he had a few uncharacteristic flat spots during the season and the club will be looking for much better from him in 2025. I'm interested in why you see McVee as a future leader. What's the evidence for this? I see a great on-field talent, but that doesn't always translate to being leadership material. You could put together a great team of players none of whom had any leadership interest or capability. Players such as Gary Ablett Sr, Bruce Doull, Buddy Franklin and Dustin Martin were all greats of the game, but none were leaders.3 points

He did captain the MFC and lead a group of players - think that counts for something leadership wise and not many of the business/organisational type expert leaders that might stand for president could bring that to the table. While realising that it's still obviously pretty important he is able to lead the business/administration side, I would think that having a player/captains perspective is something that is pretty darn important to have when leading a footy club and probably exactly what we need right now to provide the sort of space to let the players get on with things and get us back on track on feild next year. We start winning games consistently and convincingly next year and just watch all these off field issues evaporate in the eyes of the media.3 points

So you don't think he was a big part of everything? Obviously he isn't doing it all on his own, but he's definitely been a driving force in getting these matters sorted.3 points

If we believe the player we want at 9 will be there at 15 or whatever then we should absolutely try to grab another pick in the last 20’s Crazy not to3 points
