That's more like it !! We were a bit scrappy early but a burst of class in the 3rd quarter did the business . After that, apart from a couple of disappointing junk time goals, we smashed them. PS . You will never see a better ruckman than Max Gawn ! PPS. That new player, Thommo I think his name is, did ok too.26 points

Anyone who has been going to the games noticed how nice Tmac’s kicks have been looking? Hits the ball at its lowest point, and its resulting in absolute bullets.19 points

Enjoyed the awe in Dangerfield’s voice when talking about Gawn. Marshall is meant to be one of the elite rucks going around and Max treated him with disdain. It shouldn’t get lost that we are watching an all time great every week.19 points

Had a family lunch, so had to watch the game as live. Just finished it. Great win. Haven't read this thread yet. I assume posters, even the ones convinced we are hopeless, have given us full credit and not putting some sort of asterisk on it. The ladder doesn't lie. Fourth on the ladder close to the halfway part of the season with our toughest games and schedule behind us. Go redleggers.17 points

Crikey. We have a comfortable victory and this thread is as toxic as the matchday festival of negativity.16 points

Salem was the Supreme Architect this afternoon. Back to his precise, poised, best. We are an 80% better team with him playing like that. Very impressive.15 points

I wouldn't read too much into this game. St Kilda's pressure and effort was non existent.15 points

Gawn - Brownlow votes again Viney - more energy displayed Bowey - resilient and impressive Rivers - great first half Neal-Bullen - played with passion May - loved his energy Salem - back in form Tomlinson - career best game Windsor - had limited involvement Oliver - performance gradually improved Petracca - class when required Pickett - brilliant in bursts McAdam - far from ready Petty -out for Jefferson Chandler - little to enthuse Fritsch - only cameos again Woewodin - a smooth mover vanRooyen - important but limited Sparrow - is looking tired Hunter - disposal was average Langdon - impressive first half McVee - reliable and skillful McDonald - was virtually impassable11 points

Great game to attend today, perfect football day, would have been better at 2:00 pm but that aside we turned up to play and play we did. Once we realised that the boys had turned up we got right in behind them, we sat on L1 today surrounded by a very happy, noisy and supportive group of supporters and a very noisy Demon Army just over to our left. The couple in the row in front of us had a 5 week old baby girl that slept on her dads knees throughout the game, what a little trooper. Our Dees put on a bit of a clinic at times today working hard to get the job done, Max bog, JV, Salo, Thommo, May, ANB we’re great But Tracc, Kozzie, Clayton, Lingers, Bowsa, Riv, Judd, Spaz, Rooey and Chin weren’t far behind. Never felt threatened at any time today, we ate a jam donut on the way back to the car and had a pleasant and talkative trip home.😁😁❤️💙11 points

This mirrors every other game against poo teams like Richmond and Hawthorn. One half of both sides making our eyes bleed, before we cruise away in the second half and win by plenty. Even the West Coast game wasn’t that different except we forgot the skipping away bit. Love the Langdon to half forward move. He killed it. Huge vote of confidence in Windsor to play the opposite wing to Hunter. I will legit cry the day Max pulls the pin.11 points

Good win. Nothing to get overly excited about (unless you’re Steven May) but a game that was completely dominated by us and never really in doubt. Saints are rubbish but you only need to be off by about 5% to get a hiding from other teams this year. The gap between 2nd and 16th on any given day is as small as I can remember. Individual comments: Gawn not slowing down one iota, getting better if anything. Tomlinson great (but gives away a lot of needless frees), Tmac a revelation. Hunter is a million times better than Billings. Midfield looks much better with Kosi and ANB getting meaningful minutes. Also good to get to 100 without any real influence from Petty, McAdam and just a cameo from Fritsch. 7-4 is a good spot to be. It’s anyone’s flag this year.11 points

It's McAdams 2nd game, it's going to take time. You need to go in the bin.11 points

Can't believe the negativity on this thread after a dominating win - actually, it's Demonland, maybe I can. The criticism of Petty identifies people who watch TV rather than going to the game. He created a lot of contests but also, there were a number of times where he was 20m in the clear when we were streaming forward and the ballcarrier chose other options. Kick it to him and he has a 3-4 goal game and doesn't get criticised. He is learning; he still doesn't fully trust his foot (I really hope that he hasn't had real harm to it today) and all Melbourne supporters should know that it takes over a year to really come back from a foot injury - look at Viney, Trengove, TMac, Vandenberg .... Petty just needs time.10 points

Agree we still have a pretty tough run home. (But I'd add we have games against the Eagles at roos at the g to come) But that wasn’t my point. My point was our run home is not as tough as our first 11 games. Two five day breaks. A six day break. Four interstate games. Both Adelaide teams at home. Have played the swans, port, cats and blues, meaning 4 of our 11 games have been against teams currently in the top 8, 2 against top 4 teams. And we are 4th. The ladder doesn't lie (well perhaps for the bombers it does). As much as some on here might try to convince people otherwise, you can't magic up 4th on the ladder after 11 rounds with the fixture we have had.9 points

Not sure about the fixture point. We still have Collingwood twice, Fremantle twice, GWS, Port, Essendon, Brisbane in Brisbane, GC on the GC and the Dogs at Marvel. Still four more interstate trips (Essendon by contrast have just two). We’ve done well enough given the early travel but there are plenty of challenges on our fixture still to come.9 points

It was soooo good to see Clayton get his clearance work and timing right Forgot how big he is - he had blokes hanging off him and still got the ball!8 points

Lingers to half forward is a genius move. His work rate smashes most half backs. Having Windsor and Hunter/Billings taking the wings enables this. Thought he and Max were our best. TMac and Tomlinson excellent too. Loving ANB in the midfield, and more CBAs for Koz exciting too. We reverted to a forward half territory game. Hard to know if St Kilda let us play that way or whether it was us dictating terms. We seemed to be fine with playing a higher defensive set up today. Be interesting to see which way we go next week. Rumours of COVID through the camp last week would make a lot of sense.8 points

Max Gawn forgot he was a 'only' a ruck again. Led the game for clearances and score involvements, at 88% disposal efficiency. Nod to Nibbler who continues to turn his workrate into real effect. Nod to Viney who held the sludge-wave under control during the grotty second quarter when our midfield was well under expectations. And a smile and a nod to Salem who has probably done himself a world of good by having such a busy and effective day. Most importantly, a much shorter 'tail' this week compared to a number of recent games.8 points

Nibbla 27 @ 74%, 12 contested and 2 goal assists, 11 centre bounce attendances, he’s above a role player now 👏🏻 would’ve been nice to win by 50 instead of 38 but we’d put the cue in the rack and benched Max and a couple of others. Did what we needed to do and comfortably beat a weak opponent. Am I convinced we’re back? No but it’s better than last week.7 points

Real disappointed for Taj who has shown plenty and still is not getting a full game, while Hunter has had a less than great pre season and season thus far, and is straight in off very limited good form.7 points

Taj is incredibly stiff, it's pretty rough to give a bloke a full game who's shown next to nothing in the 2's over a kid who's been playing quite well in the 1's7 points

Posters are allowed to have an opinion and you can’t blame them if they’re pessimistic given our recent form. im not confident but hoping for the win. Will continue to support the boys irrespective of the result.7 points

Old mate Scotty didn't disappointed. I admire his confidence. He could have gone safe in his attempt to win the coveted Poor sportsmanship- coaches division award (or as it is colloquially known, the sour puss). After all he has a handy lead over mcrae, who has surged of late, scoring big with his patented go to passive aggressive routine. But, no, Scotty decided to attempt the rare triple pay the opponents no respect move - and totally nailed it. Respect. The cats apparently played poorly for 3 quarters against the giants, port and dees - and still almost won (he got bonus points for using the under a goal line - the judges loved it). Though he missed a chance to try the even rarer quadruple disrespect trick by not disrespecting the suns a bit more. Though he did pick up some easy points by acting if having 160 points scored against them is no big deal. And really, probably didn't need the extra points after totally nailing his signature 'no disrespect with a backhanded compliment twist' trick. As scott noted, a big factor in the game was the giants taking contested marks But, with 'no disrespect', the giants' old school strategy of kicking long to a contest was very basic - but only worked because the cats marked poorly. And the judges gave Scott extra points for that trick for the litte twist only the true sour puss aficionados would have picked up - that backhanded compliment was the ONLY time he mentioned the Giants. Personally, I loved how Scotty slipped in the tried and true trick of, apropos of nothing, mentioning that the cats have young players (all 3 of them) A bravura performance.7 points

memo to Goodwin. His name is Bradley Hill. He runs and runs and delivers. Elite disposal. Elite efficiency. You must pay heavy attention to him and fellow quarterback Wanganeen-Milera. Do not let them wander around unmanned!!! FFS.7 points

Not being hyperbolic, but I do honestly think that if we lose this, we will continue to struggle and may not make the 8.7 points

Season on the line with this one. And for those underestimating St Kilda, they’ve lost to Port by 11 away, GWS by 1 away, Hawthorn by 5 away and Freo by 17. And of course they beat Collingwood in their only MCG appearance this year.7 points
