  1. They will sack Bevo before they let the Bont walk out. Take that to the bank.

  2. Seriously? JVR, who only tuned 21 two days ago, is so obviously a gun i'm astounded any footy fan could not see it. Obviously the club do. And its not just potential. His first season provides evidence of his ability and a clear sense of his ceiling. His first year of senior footy matches or exceeds that of every gun forward for the last 30 years, in including the current crop (King brothers, Oscar Allen, JUH, Amiss, Logan McDonald).

  3. Amazing some on here see are saying he's 'soft' and 'Jack Watts' mk 2 purely because they've seen the way he's built and style or play. You can tell not many have actually taken the time to watch him play. He kicked 39 goals last year just in the home and away season. Put that form into our side and he would have top our leading goal kicking. We'd be absolutely silly not to be asking the question at least.

  4. Fair enough OD. But I think any comparisons to weed are a stretch. I saw weeds first practice match. It was against the pies at Olympic park and i happened to be standing next to his grandfather. Weed looked the goods that day. Strong leads and clean hands. Good stock and Hollywood looks. Weed was a top 10 draft pick, so hopes ane expectations were justifiably high. But without bagging weed it became apparent pretty quickly that he lacked perhaps the most important attribute of any AFL footballer - competivness and desire for the contest. Sure players can develop their intensity but really they either have it or they don't. One of the clearest indicators is whether second and third efforts are 100% instinctive. From the get go weed always seemed to have a millisecond delay in getting after the ball after the initial contest. That might fly at the junior level, but it doesn't cut it at AFL level. The complete opposite is true of JVR. The thing that jumped out at me straight away when I first saw Roey play live was his intensity, competitiveness and will for the contest. That want for the contest and the ball is the reason why I'm so confident jvr is going to be a star. A kid now, he will be an absolute beast when he is in his mid twenties

  5. Would jump at him in a heartbeat. Would be fantastic as a roaming CHF similar to Jeremy Cameron. I really hope we go hard in trade and free agency this year to bring in some ready made players. After bringing in Windsor, Kolt and Brown last year and Jeffo, Adams & Verrall last year we've got a decent amount of kids for a side contending. Throw in Rivers, Pickett, Bowey, JVR, McVee, Howes, Woey, Turner & Sestan that is a heap of youth. I realise we don't have a real top line mid in that group other than Windsor, I think the time is now to really go hard. Can't waste our time with Trac, Viney and Oliver....

  6. This will be a laughable opinion to many, but it’s why I don’t think Ross Lion is all he’s made out to be. He took over saints after all the hard work had been done and no flag. Then leaves when they start going south. Then he inherited Freo after all the hard work had been done, no flag. Then leaves when things start going south. If he wins a flag after returning to the saints then I’ll own up to how dumb this comment is. But that’s an ‘if’ he gets them to win a flag but… That St. Kilda team in the 10,11 years especially, was filled with so much A grade talent, it’s actually absurd they didn’t win a flag. And that team was gifted to Lion just like Freo. No flags.

  7. Exactly. Money is king is the AFLs core value. As life long football fan i have no sense that the AFL consider or prioritise the views of the key stakeholders - us. The only time they do is as if those views relate to their money is king mantra, that's to say will we stop spening money on the 'product'.

  8. Looking at the replay of the Lever incident and the rap he is getting, having relaxed his body and bounced his head in the action. Motorbike pins Lever's arms, lifts his legs off the ground, slings his body round so as to get momentum and drives, as his head bounces off the ground. Lever was focused on the faux handball attempt, so he doesn't get freed against. I am amazed by some commentary that Lever, made it easy and exaggerated the look of it. Wow, then Dunkley gets a take on the matter, victim blaming. The Lions are really building the MFC hate towards them.

  9. 2023: 39 goals for the season, averaging 1.5 marks inside 50, both behind only King at the Suns (and ahead of any Demon) Took more contested marks than any of our forwards did, whether you split it by average or total. Led the suns for goal assists and was behind only Noah Anderson for inside 50s. I suspect he is in fact a key forward. Possibly even a textbook modern CHF. When the coach permits it!

  14. Too bad it wasn’t Darcy Fogarty and pick 14 we just may have jumped at it. I’m still hopeful that Petty will stay, we don’t have to trade him until the end of ‘25 unless the offer is too good to turn down. He’s a Premiership backman 197cm a good mark and kick who loves body contact and can go forward and kick a goal or six. Be patient let Harrison find his fitness and form he will come good (barring injury) and straighten us up in the forward line. It is a long long season.!!

  19. Not sure if the TV commentators have mentioned it (as I'm listening via SEN app) but there was absolute bedlam for people getting to the ground tonight. Power outage on the train lines and the trains weren't even stopping at Southern Cross before the game. Then everyone jumped in their cars and the roads were stuffed. Hence pretty poor crowd.

  27. Yes, Gather Round is a great example of their bluff. Despite what the AFL, the kowtowing media and the SA government say, the end result is, a lot of people are not able to see their team play in person. But it is great for football we’re told. Shows you where the average supporter ranks in their priorities.

  28. I too have done this. I have KAYO but only watch games and First Crack for Joey. Rets is rubbish and its the best thing Iv'e done lately to reduce outrage at the AFL and media. However, lets just add this to the list of spineless AFL calls which includes: The Brownlow effect - favourites get off. The Cripps rule - no explanation needed( also called the Pendles rule) The good bloke rule - Cameron The media darling rule - Trent Cotchin rule is its correct terminology The Whately Rule - known as the toe-the-party-line rule. or don't upset head office calling them out The Robbo rule - see the Whately rule The Toby Greene Rule - used to be castigated, now loved by everyone so he gets a free pass( but deserves it anyway) There must be others but I'm avoiding even reading this stuff and will await our thrashing of the tiges next week to look forward to. Everything else is white noise to me. Its fantastic.

  29. Still scratching my head as to how Kossie gets suspended by the tribunal for a week and yet Cameron gets off. the inherent risk posed by me scratching my head will no doubt warrant its own suspension. The MRO, the tribunal, heck the entire AFL is a pathetically run organisation. My hatred (and it is indeed hatred) of the AFL ‘system’ now far outweighs the love i have for the MFC. This league is a blight on the game of Aussie-Rules football.

  30. Below are some of the better KPFs in the game today. Just players who were drafted in the last 6~ years, and the stat is goals kicked in their first four seasons (from debut). We all want, and need, JVR to be taking a leap this year - but patience is required. Season # 1 2 3 4 JVR 28 M. King 22 38 52 28 B. King 17 25 47 40 McDonald 9 15 32 Curnow 5 20 34 18 McKay 3 21 26 21 Daniher 3 28 34 43 Naughton 2 32 15 47 Larkey 0 26 14 42 Allen 0 20 18 28 Average 9 25 30 33 For reference, old mate Weideman kicked 3, 3, 10, 11....

Not bad, nice way comsume a big episode with limited time and a nice way to see through time without the use of a DeLorean. Excellent ep guys thought the system and tactics discussion was really on the money this week. Binman I have NEVER heard you better! I'm wondering if you're using a new mic as well. 5 stars and um... I'll be back next week.

  37. Hands down the best game of the H&A season, with regards to our fixture. Sadly I haven't been to one for the past three seasons, but the pre-game ceremony is incredibly moving and poignant. Watching it on the tube just doesn't do it justice at all. I'd implore all those who are able to make it, to attend and genuinely recommend making an effort to get to one of these matches if you've never been.

  38. I am not saying Jacob van Rooyen will kick 78 goals in a season but mark my words there is one area he is in front is his highly competitive nature. And he is missing marks now that he will take in 1or 2 years time. Jacob will be as useful a player for us as Charlie is for Carlton during his career. His rucking role is under estimated and will improve his footy no doubt more he gets trusted. And he can go to defence as well for a cameo or lock down. You have not said much good about JVR but his best oozes a very high upside once he gains confidence and more form.

  39. Living interstate, I've only been able to get to one of these games. If you are umming ( sorry Binners) about going to this game, let me assure you it was one of the best games I have attended. We lost ( Injuries took a toll). Richmond were a dominant side then as well. But it's the pre match stuff that makes it. The ceremony of mobile phones and the last post. It's heart in mouth stuff . It's humbling and pride filling at the same time. It's hairs rising on the back of your neck as well. I guarantee it will fill you with gratitude and patriotism . And I'm pretty sure we will win this. Although despite the tigers form I guess with the crowd and occasion there could be an upset. Nah. Enjoy.

  40. But they keep telling us how great everything is and their lackeys in the media are so glowing in their appraisal of how wonderful everything is like their week long [censored] up in Adelaide despite the further inequities it creates in the fixture. Loyalty to the MFC is being superceded by my hate for the AFL.

  41. Andrew Dillon - “There were, from the Tribunal chair, there were a number of compelling circumstances and they were first of all that he pled guilty, second of all the number of games he's played without suspension, thirdly that the player didn't suffer an injury and the fourth one was that it was at the lower end of careless.” We are now grading gradings. Comedy gold.

  43. No AFL footballer is soft Lukosius isn't a pack crunching key forward like JVR. But he's a good mark, one on one included, an exceptional kick and decision maker and would definitely be a big part of our forward set up over the next 8-10 years. He's also versatile, plays back if needed. I can even see him getting time in the middle, such is his high footy IQ The whole 'Jack Watts 2.0' label shows that some fans like cheap shot labels because it's easier than thinking in any depth It's a big YES from me, assuming the price isn't too high. In JT we trust

  44. Looks like it is self-perpetuating. If they let you off in the past, then that is an argument for letting you off in future. It's blindingly obvious that the MRO is corrupt. But what can you expect when we have an entertainment corporate business rather than a sporting body.

  45. Nonna Petracca better be available to give a character reference should Trac ever find himself at the tribunal... "he's a lovely boy and he makes an excellent lasagne, just how I taught him". A farce.

  48. As an All Australian under 18 in his draft year, you can understand why the club drafted him at pick 15. As an All Aust under age pick, the kid has talent. History will tell you KP youngsters take time to develop their body. Jeffo was drafted 18 months ago. 20 year old kids rarely play senior AFL footy at his age. He has shown very good cameo performances at Casey. His goal tally for his first year as a KPF was very good. He is young and playing agianst more physically developed men. Consistency at this point at time is an unrealistic expectation. As an under age player his kicking accuracy was one of his biggest strengths, along with his marking. But, his 6 mark, 2 goal 4 performance 2 weeks ago, is now seen as he is a poor kick for goal. Too many focus on the negatives and form opinions too quick. Many have also attacked him for being too skinny with a (perceived) hunch back. It takes all body types, just saying. It’s posts and the anxiety such as yours Cranky that rile me with focussing on the negative. I would suggest the people on here backing Jeffo, including me, have the same anxiety as you. I just choose to sit back and wait to see how it unfolds and not behave in a way that is negative.
