My guess is that Woewodin will be the sub and Hore Lever and Tmac will start down back. Petty will only swing back if it’s all going to hell without May.11 points

As Petty is contracted in 25 they’ll need a top 10 and a top 20 pick to satisfy us. Either that or a top liner from their list who wants back to Vic. Any less would be unders.9 points

The true mark of Jack is how he took his captaincy demotion. Happy to lead the same way, continued as vice, never sooked and re-signed a year or so later long term. That is leadership.9 points

What I love about Jack, apart from his toughness is that he has never rested on his laurels. He's always looked to improve on his weaknesses His tackling, He used to get cited so much for his hits remember, now with his judo / grappling skills, he just drags them down and wraps them up. I'm sure he still hurts them. His disposal, his work on his disposal and forward work around the goals has transformed. He's that much cleaner with his disposals and attacking work now. As @Superunknown mentioned to me last night, he lost the captaincy but never sooked about it, just kept on leading on the field. He's not a Gawny type club man, he just goes out there and fights in the trenches every game. He's carried the team on his back so many times to keep us in games. We are very lucky to have him and it's a joy to watch him give 100 percent week in week out. Thank you Jack Viney9 points

Clarry's hands are so fast, I'd be surprised if a scan showed up as any more than a blur9 points

Just like his old man improving in the later years of his career. Jack has always been good but last few seasons have been great. Jack like his dad improved his kicking after many years of being a bit dodgy. Todd got his first All Australian in his 10th year and Jack should've got the nod last year in his.8 points

That's 2 Collingwood wins in a row where I've turned off the TV right before the final siren so I don't have to see their smug faces or hear that god awful song.7 points

Dog act from Pendlebury. Dangerous hit off the ball more than 5 metres away. Pendlebury hit Neale with full force with the ball of his hand to his solar plexus. Pendlebury said it was retaliation in the interview and the retaliator always gets caught. He should be suspended for 2 weeks. Dog act.7 points

Not so sure that all locals in Caulfield disagree with Melbourne being based at Caulfield Racecourse. My understanding is that for Melbourne to get into the precinct, it also has to cater for local community groups and there are such groups happy to locate there as well. Any argument that the development is going to "reduce green space in the area and shut the community out" is spurious because, as I understand it, part of the master plan for the precinct involves the removal of a large number of buildings which previously housed stables and the like. They, in turn, will be replaced by some buildings and plenty of attractive green spaces for community use. As a resident of the area, I say bring it on ...7 points

Channel 7 asking Pendlebury in the post match interview about a ‘love tap’ on Neale is everything wrong with the AFL. Stop creating the narrative. They did it last year and it’s fundamentally wrong. It makes me hate the game.6 points

If we don’t get top value for Petty this year, I would hold him to his contract in ‘25 We can use Gus money this year to get some high end talent6 points

And fearless workhorse when we were battling for control of the game back as well. Far better player than Sellwod and he got 6 AAs. But then I don't see Jack as being the type that wins so many popularity points with umpires or the AFL - that's the beauty of him.6 points

Pound for pound the hardest player in the AFL. His career is now sitting in the club Legend tier. I look forward to telling my grandkids one all about him.6 points

They can't move the ball without Coleman. The AFL can't allow teams to have breaks within 2 weeks of the season starting, its disjointing for the competition. You either play everyone opening round or scrap it all together.5 points

Man of steel. As Adzman said above, pound for pound he'd have to be up there with the toughest in the league over many seasons now. When you get up close he's not a big fella by any means but the bod is all muscle and ripped. The amount of work required to upkeep that... wow! I'm sure he was duly lead by the Jones boy (among others) who laid down the foundations of what's required to play at the highest level... and consistently at that. He constantly lets his footy do the talking. A great leader by example. I see traits of Viney coming through in the likes of Sparrow at times (when playing through the middle). Hats off to you Vins. I salute you...one of the all time greats of the mighty Demons 👏🏼💪🏼🍻5 points

He wanted to leave though and was out of contract so we did the best we could. No point whinging about a player who didn't want to be here, when the majority do. Agreed about Gawn injury, but most teams are the same (dockers probably the only ones who can cover their number one ruck). If English goes down Dogs have to ruck either Darcy or Lobb full time. If Marshall goes down the Saints have Tom Campbell. If Soldo goes down the Power have Jordon Sweet and so on and so on. There aren't many good ruckman around and there are hardly any AFL standard rucks in the VFL.5 points

I'm assuming that other than when we have the oval/s booked for training, they would be for full community use would they not? That's a wonderful win for the community. In Mildura where I'm living, we recently completed an absolutely amazing new $40m sporting precinct with 3 ovals, 6 new basketball courts in a first class stadium, huge function rooms and all the extra bells and whistles needed to ensure its compliant (change rooms, appropriate access). The majority of the funding was state and federal with the local council having to put some up obviously and oh lord..... the carry on from some locals and as someone above beautifully quoted "lightweight pollies" was genuinely cringeworthy. Anyways, a couple years on, we have it, the stadium is jampacked 24/7 and the ovals get a lot more use than expected with personal trainers filling them in the mornings, then dog walkers and mothers groups during the day. The local footy club only has them for a few hours every Tues-Thurs night and obviously Saturdays and it works perfectly. Far more use then vacant land. As I'm sure the new development would be over the wasted space in the centre of the track now.5 points

The single most wrong I've ever been in supporting footy is thinking we should have let him walk to Geelong and give Brayshaw more minutes. Last 100 games has been outstanding. Wouldn't have gotten to where we are without Jack.5 points

You'll keep the mods happier by just not discussing it like we have requested. It just causes us more work having to delete stuff. I get people want and need to discuss it but I just can't risk the heat. Media has the option and are mostly using it to disable comments on most posts about sensitive topics on social media. If people want to keep using Demonland to discuss footy and the Dees then please respect this decision. I don't want to get shut down.5 points

Congratulations Jack - love your work. Just an absolute beast of a player. One thing I distinctly remember that Todd was renowned for (assides from being as hard a nails), was for being a consummate professional in his training and preparation and I get the sense that has well and truely rubbed off on Jack as well. It's like the kid was born and raised to be a gladiator or perhaps like a Spartian warrior for the Melbourne Football Club.5 points

There’s no hits — In fact just opposite with Mayesy running round and Lever tipped to play alongside Clarry for that matter so I’d say it’s been an extremely positive day5 points

No one here is claiming to be better at picking players than JT or TL. But bloody oath we can have an opinion, otherwise this place would be unreadable vanilla. I think Laurie will improve gradually. We are used to seeing players like Oliver, Bowey and Kossie look good from game 1 (or nearabouts). Not with Bill. There's certainly something about him to work with, two years should be enough to find out.5 points

Congratulations Jack. Had the great pleasure of attending games at the ‘G and seeing your Dad play and later captain the side. Not so much of your good self. Living in the periphery at Darwin. But l do strongly recall the first time at Marrara probably in your first season. One committed, courageous act intercepting an opposition pass with fierce determination. Where angels fear to tread. Another chip off the Viney block. Fast forward to September 2021 Preliminary Final in Perth. Max put on the show but IMM you were best on the ground. When complimented at training later in the campaign you were not only appreciative but humble to boot. Long May You Run.5 points

Alex Neal-Bullen is a very special kind of selfless player, gut runner extraordinaire, absorbs punishment with aplomb, works hard for his teammates and celebrates each and every great team act and goal scored. Love ANB, Nibbler Bullen.!!!5 points

Not necessarily. I understand the supporters wanting to know but you also have to keep the opposition guessing.4 points

Just going to nod to the fact that Jack Viney is superbly committed to fair play while also being so damn hard. He isn't into the behind-the-play sniping or any of the rubbish stuff, he is just pure hardness. I do wish that promo voice-over guy would take some Coloxyl, though. It's just hrrrnnnnghh rrrgh nnnnnnngh from him every time.4 points

Melbourne to Adelaide - 725.8kms Wuddina to Adelaide - 567kms 158.8kms the difference. No real practical difference as that's long trip either way... Would he feel more 'at home' in any case? See attached pic of the long long grass of Wuddina. Adelaide is just as different as Melbourne in that regard.4 points

Brave. Loyal. Tough. Strong. Determined. That’s our JV7. Congratulations JV on 200 games. He stands up as one of very best. Premiership player. Multiple top 3 in B&F shows his consistency. May be play on to get close to 300. God speed.4 points
