Only heard a snippet on Twitter in respect of visit to WA to meet Tholstrup. JT said that he's got 15 potential players at pick 11, and Tholstrup was the only one whose parents he hadn't met. He said it's important to meet at least one of the parents of potential draftees, and it was just circumstances that his visit to meet Tholstrup's parents was so recent. My take is that Tholstrup is not a lock to be taken if available at pick 11.10 points

Did anyone listen to the Silvani interview so we know who not to take?8 points

I think we will get Reid. Nth think they are no chance, JT has been to Esperance sending the clear message we will take the best WA talent if it falls at our picks. West Coast take the flight risk with Read and missing out on multiple high end picks. There is something going on.8 points

I think that if we have a player that we want now then why would we risk possibly maybe getting something slightly better next year? If we like Curtin (or another) at 6 this year and want that player, why not just take them? If we don't really rate the players at 6 then sure, trade it away for a lottery ticket, but if we do rate them then grab one you want.8 points

Not quite sure what you’re talking about with regard to Tholstrup making Curtin look second rate. I was at this game and Subi in general made Claremont look second rate during this game and it was only accurate kicking by Claremont in the 3rd which let them stay close. They were smashed in the middle by the Hickmott boys and took the ball forward at will. Curtin played on Luker Kentfield that day and Tholstrup played mostly as a forward with occasional time on the ball. I rate them both but they were hardly matched up against each other during this game. There’s a big difference between being involved in a contest and having to move off a player to close down a free hit up opponent7 points

If we take Windsor over Curtin that is a massive call. We'll be desperate for a key defender sooner than we think, with May 32 and Petty bailing for the Crows. We already have Blake Howes waiting for a spot on the wing, are we spooked by the Jackson trade or do we genuinely rate Windsor higher than Curtin? If you were picking best available, surely it would have to be Curtin.6 points

One of the most interesting things he had to say was that he was still hoping to improve upon picks 6 and 11. Also the discussion returned to West Coast not having said no to our previous offer for pick one rather they have just not accepted it yet. In Jason Taylor’s mind at least, he has not given up on our ability to improve our draft hand.6 points

Cal asked Jason who we will take at 6. He replied 'Reid'. You heard it here first!6 points

There was an article yesterday stating we are unlikely to do a deal for West Coast's future 1st due to the risk of them rising next year with an injury free list. With 11 home games at Perth and a clean fit list, its definitely a gamble that we turn pick 6 into something significantly better a year later. They would need to sweeten the pot for us significantly, starting with pick 23 and no return of our future 1st. Perhaps our future 2nd. Even then I don't like it.6 points

Considering they have just upgraded Turner to the senior list on a 2 year deal I would suggest that the coaching department are supremely confident he'll make it. He'll play as the 3rd tall defender next year. Bookmark it.6 points

You'll get a lot of haters for this post but I totally agree bar Hunter and Billings. Thought Hunter was serviceable and a much better option then Jordon who we had previous year. My biggest concern once again is that we go into another year not addressing our outside speed and skill. We have Hunter and Langdon on the wings with zero to no depth of anyone coming through and overtaking them. Langdon has been poor the past two years and whilst Hunter was okay this year, I can't see much improvement from a 29 year old mid paced wingman. The Collingwood pick up of Oleg Markov is one of the great bargain pick ups in years. Collingwood identified speed off half back and immediately saw that Markov would be suitable to at least come in and make an immediate impact. As much as I was/is a fan of Marty Hore, I really am confused by this selection. He doesn't address a glaring need at all and he's practically depth behind Turner, Tomlinson and Adams. The ruck depth is another one of our biggest concern on our list and you'd think they would have added depth in this department instead of another half back flanker. If Gawn goes down then responsibilities are left up to poor Will Varrell.6 points

A lot of the reputable journos start getting it pretty close to the mark around this time and we just keep getting linked to Windsor at 6. Is he our man? Seems like a bit of a reach based on what I’ve read but he fills a need. I’m quietly hoping the Hawks take Curtin and Watson falls to us. Love me a good antagonist. Edit for those wondering: The HS phantom draft has us taking Windsor and Tholstrop.5 points

Possible that we believe Petty will ask for a trade at the end of 2024 and that will net us a better first round pick than the one we will have ourselves, so its a gamble worth making5 points

If you don't rate Curtin you've got glass eyes. Or you're trying to find flaws, i.e. the old Simon Black syndrome.5 points

Drove past Trevor Barker Oval 10 Minutes ago in medium level traffic and saw Angus, Spargo, Salem, Disco and possibly Howes doing a skills session. Salem shirtless obviously happy with the rig. It was only a brief glimpse but excited people they were training the house down.5 points

Whlle folks might be disappointed that Kynan may not be with us the club is actually helping him by saying we can't (for whatever reason) commit to adding him to our senior list. Generally players would prefer a senior spot over a rookie spot (due to tenure, opportunity, income) and the mfc is giving him this chance by allowing anouther club to draft him.. The fall back is he will join as a rookie.5 points

Reading all the pro’s and con’s I am feeling pretty comfortable about this draw, No Cattery or Tassie and a decent break between the byes is a pleasant surprise. Feeling confident that if we get a decent run with injury we can be a genuine contender in 2024 and a big thanks to Kate Roffe for pushing for greater justice for MFC.5 points

Wilson doesn't look too excited about the prospect of joining Melbourne. We might need to have him train with Mick Stinear's squad and have T. Hanks mentor him.4 points

Remember this time last year when a lot of people on here were suggesting we make trades around getting future picks because "Next year's draft is apparently meant to be loaded" and now it's suddenly a 'shallow' draft and later picks are trash? 😆4 points

Yes that is true, but we are still playing the same number of interstate games as previous years, without the need to also play in Geelong. Not to mention that poor Tassie ground where we seem to sustain serious injuries. And IMO the back to back SA games, while brutal in terms of the 5 day break, can be seen as a single interstate game, if as I suspect we will stay there for the duration of those rounds. Geelong do not worry me either, but Geelong in Geelong will always be no more than a 50/50 proposition simply because they play that ground better than anyone. Whereas at the MCG that game IMO is 70/30 our way. Likewise we have lost to Freo at the MCG frequently. Playing them at Optus doesn't make that game any more difficult beyond the travel itself. And we play Optus extremely well anyway. Also our travel is far better this year in terms of timing. We don't have long blocks of away games and we finally get a home game in the last round of the season, and a proper mid year bye. My biggest gripe is double up games against the other top 4 sides, which should be something only the premiers get lumped with. But having said that, I have no confidence in Port being top 4 again and we match up well against Brisbane especially at the MCG. I think Carlton and Adelaide will be real threats in 2024 so am happy we only play them once.4 points

We tried to get pick 1 and were knocked back, don’t have any more assets to increase our offer We’ll seriously consider Curtin if he falls to pick 6 We’ve also been linked to Leake and to a lesser extent Caddy, and will take Windsor with our second pick if he’s still there Honestly just sounds like more speculation and parroting what other sites have said 🤷♂️4 points

Very happy to have two games in Adelaide, I hope the club will base themselves here so fans like me can stalk them at training.4 points

I don’t need to watch Tomlinson, I know plenty about Curtin, spent a lot of time working with him so I’ll back that.3 points

I think so too and I must say, I like these dirty tactics. I feel like WCE deserve it too, i mean who turns down 6,11,F1.. its a ridiculously good offer.3 points

Am I the only person wondering if Koltyn Thorstrup is related to the Alby Mangels impersonating, wanna-be adventurer/explorer/publicity seeker Hans Tholstrup?3 points

He does have flaws that are important but I totally agree about the Simon Black syndrome aspect. The things he does well are exceptionally good. I think he's got the best chance of all the players likely to be available at our pick to be a genuine star. I prefer him as a midfielder than as a key defender but even his worst case probably see him become a very composed and competent defender.3 points

Jason Taylor is on Gettable at 12.45 today. I'm sure we'll know exactly what we will pick then. 😉3 points

I'm actually also tipping a switcheraoo on draft night - but not in the Harley Reid way. With Curtin still available at pick 6, Eagles agree to trade their No.1 pick for next year and pick 23 this year and in return we give them our No.1 pick for next year. The outcome of that is we take: Pick 11 - James Leake Pick 23 - Aidan O'Driscoll Pick 42 - Vigo Visentini Plus Kynan Brown either via being forced to give up 78 or as a rookie. And next year we will most likely have a pick in the top four, depending on where the Eagles finish up.3 points

I'm not sure a taller Salem is something anyone needs. Salem doesn't play on anyone that tall and nor should he if he is a rebounding creative half back. Are there any weapon 197cm quarterbacks in the league? Stewart would be the tallest wouldn't he and he's 190. The Wing call I don't believe in either - tall wings have been tried and mostly fail. Tomlinson is actually in many respects a similiar athlete to Curtin and that failed too. In fact - Tomlinson is probably a good example of the danger of picking Curtin. There are similarities to Tommo at the same age. If you're saying he's a Mid at 197cm, he needs to play like Cripps to make the most of that size, as he will invariably be giving away speed, agility, ground level. I'm not sure Curtin plays anything like Cripps. Watch this: Now this is a kid in the WAFL so not going to be overly critical...but he already has the body to compete. I don't see a whole heap of competitiveness, tricks, or thirst for the contest. Relatively meek in the contest. Looks lovely in space, a very nice kicking action and does win some defensive 1v1s...but coughs the ball up in most contest situations. Tholstrup, who certainly has his flaws, played for the opposition and actually made Curtin look a little second rate at several contests. With a smaller body:3 points

I’m worried about us chasing. Wicket taking spin. Maharaj and Shamsi are pretty good.3 points

Is Marty your brother ? Seriously gushing over a 28 yo defender who played 14 average games in a modest year. I hope Disco gets a fair go ahead of Marty and can only see him as a break glass if broken 8th, 9th or 10th defender, Also believe Disco is a really nice young man as well and can play a bit.3 points

Given that Tholstrup was touted to go in the late teens, i wonder if we are contemplating trading 6 for WCE future 1st and then trading our future first for a Nth Melb late teens pick.3 points

These highlights against senior WAFL men is seriously very impressive from the kid.3 points

If Curtin is there at 6 it would be a gift. 197cm that can play key position but moves well enough to play midfield gee wiz. Some of his movement is Pendles like.3 points

I'm not sure why we're interested in Curtin. He doesn't seem to suit our game style. - Curtin takes the game on from the backline, rather than stop and kick it long down the line. - Curtin seems to hit a target when under pressure. I'm sure we'll knock these traits out of him if we draft him.3 points
