Okay Bali, it's time to pull your head in. Every time anyone disagrees with you you get into the snarky whiny 'ooh, well, aren't you a big boy' talk and it is both bringing down the tone of the forum and crowding the screen space. About ten years ago Demonland slumped badly because a few people were teeing off at each other constantly and derailing whole threads with their petty snarks. Those of us who have been around would have no interest in seeing that tone creeping back in. Like you, those people also mixed in valid points of discussion and had interesting things to say, but I can't remember what any of it was because it was drowned out by just this kind of childish thin-skinned snot-flicking. You're bringing down the vibe.21 points

Shout out to Eden Zanker - worked so hard all night, repeatedly brought the ball to ground even when she was outnumbered or out-positioned, and kept scrambling for second and third efforts when it was on the ground, tackling, chasing. It was a huge effort to help fill the absence of Tayla.9 points

This is actually factual incorrect. I've had the pleasure of meeting Ollie Wines sister in Maddie about a year or so after he was drafted and she started out as a local journo around the region. We crossed paths at a regional awards function one night and i actually asked this question to her. Melbourne had certainly had Wines in their sights and this was purely because Todd thought GWS were going to pick Toumpas with their early picks. Our recruiting staff thought he was a top 2 genuine talent based off his senior SANFL experience as well as winning a flag at such a young age. They were mostly set on Wines until it was made known fairly soon that GWS were then going to pass Toumpas. Maddie confirmed it was actually Todd Viney who made the decision even though Neeld preferred Wines, but Neeld had enough faith in Viney and the rest of the recruitment. Viney informally Wines family and whilst they were fairly disappointed in the decision they certainly didn't hold it against Todd as they knew it was a professional decision. So yes, unfortunately it was Todd who made the blunder.8 points

Would not be surprised if we only recruit McAdam and put a full premium on the draft in getting in as much young talent as possible.8 points

Can I just say how enjoyable it was to come home from work put on this match, didn't have to hear about collingwood and the GF, watch us beat geelong in geelong and hear our song. Also kudos to Kate Hore who has stepped into the capatins role beautifully and is leading this team so well.8 points

us demonlanders should all live in the same seat and threaten to vote one way or the other depending on who gives the MFC more funding.7 points

At the moment we are looking at Grundy to Swans for early second round pick 22 is Jordon to Swans hopefully for after second round pick 33 is Mcadam in, I think the pick we get for Jordon does this deal Harmes still looking, unfortunately for Harmes he is worth more to the club than what we will get in return unless it is a part of a package to get a player in or advance our second round pick. Then we add in pick swapping that may net up another first round pick. Pretty big couple of weeks coming up7 points

Some of our hardest games are yet to come but: we play Crows and Freo at Casey - big advantage for us. we have beaten Lions at their ground in a GF The other two games are Eagles in Perth and North We may not go undefeated and I prefer we don't take that 'monkey on our back' into finals but it is difficult to see how we don't make top two from here and get Home finals, albeit probably not at Casey.7 points

any chance you could not overly dominate and make treads unreadable? sure, make your point, however misguided. You don't have to play the victim and complain if people don't agree Casboult will be 34 by round 1. A terrible option, we would not even consider6 points

This seems like it’s made for McQualter, very influential at Tiges over their successful years, was interim head coach this year and went close to landing the role permanently. He’s clearly well above a regular assistant6 points

Levi Casboult.... Good lord. We need to get back to winning finals & playing in Grand Finals to stop this absurd talk.6 points

Did I read Matt Flynn, the second ruck from GWS is talking to us? Would make sense...6 points

Played 41 of possible 45 games for the Suns over 2022/23 so durability is in his favour. Pretty good no frills option I reckon. Good ruck chop out, too.6 points

Aside from getting a mature aged ruckman, that's the way I see it. If we continue to bring in mature aged players from other clubs, we'll continue to lose younger talent like Bedford and JJ, because they can't see a pathway into the seniors. We need some elite junior talent to be pushing the under performing players in the seniors. Our draft hand this year is our opportunity of obtaining elite youngsters.6 points

What a game! Felt like those first quarter goals were particularly telling somewhat against the flow and from there we just worked and worked our way in. And like others have mentioned, did it right til the end, no mercy. How good was Paxy? 372m gained and that classy goal. Loved Zanker’s hard work up the ground and then all the way to goal line. Purcell with 8 clearances and West with 10 tackles. Solid return from Colvin and stingy stuff from the backs overall. A.Mackin, just imagine when she gets some games under her belt!? In the post-match interview, Hore was focused on 4 goals – not the 4 she kicked but the 4 the Cats scored – and mentioned an emphasis in the last few weeks on team defence…before this game, Geelong was averaging 55 points for. Shout out to Maddi Gay for 50 reliable and versatile games, both traits on show in this one. Looked like a lively bunch of Dees fans along, including one particularly recognisable tall, bearded fellow enjoying this team as much as we do!6 points

he's not up for trade, and he's signed up for another year at gc17 from last month: https://www.afl.com.au/news/1003332/key-blue-starts-talks-roos-hold-firm-on-mckay-docker-hits-trigger VETERAN SUN TO PLAY ON LEVI Casboult will go round again at Gold Coast in 2024, two years after his AFL career looked over.5 points

I've structured my work arrangements so that I'm working for the entire match Hoping that the Lions win but can't bear to watch Collingwood play at all - full stop! I just detest them5 points

He’s a composed heart beat away from being a top 25 player in the comp. Atm he just looks a fraction too rushed when shooting on the run. Hope he can meet that challenge.5 points

Casboult re-signed with GCS months ago. If you’re going to go to the effort of posting pictures of players you might want to first google their contract situation.5 points

If we end up having 5, 10 & 13 it will be interesting to see if JT and Tim Lamb rate McKercher or Duursma in the same way they rated Clarry in 2015. If they do we may see a play of offering picks 5 & 10 to North for pick 2 or 3 and change. I wouldn't be against that. If we do keep 5, 10 & 13 I would like us to take O'Sullivan at 5 and then the two best available mids at 10 & 13. O'Sullivan looks a key position talent too good to pass up. Top shelf bookends are so hard to find/recruit. I'd pick him out of that likely combination of Sanders/Caddy/Watson/O'Sullivan available at pick 5.5 points

Made some errors but not many small forwards have 9 shots in 2 finals. Charlie Cameron was mostly stinky last week. Jamie Elliot’s kicked 1 goal in 2 finals. Bobby Hill hasn’t done much since his first quarter against us. I’m hoping for a more mature, calmer, more complete Pickett next year but overall I thought his ability to go to full forward and create chances was impressive and very close to turning around or winning both games.5 points

Wasn't Todd reported as at odds with Prendergast over Toumpas instead of Wines? Was definitely at the club at the time of that draft.5 points

Going to have to pull you up a little bit here Adam, although will concede Port have been erratic over the journey. By the second year of each of his stints coaching down back and up front, Basset’s division had established itself as a top two AFL performer on points conceded or scored; Port conceding the second lowest total in 2017 (and the third lowest in 2018 despite the club finishing 10th overall), and becoming the heaviest scoring team in 2020. While we know that personnel, injuries and the defensive/offensive balance of the head coach’s game-plan can impact such figures, the Power in the respective years prior to Basset taking on each of those challenges sat as the 10th worst defensive team in 2015 and the league’s 12th lowest-scoring team in 2018. So he has effectively twice during his career achieved jumps of eight to twelve ranking spots within two years of taking over, at both ends of the ground. Why those form-lines later dipped is anyone’s guess (although on the defensive side it could have had something to do with the departure of Darren Burgess), but the stats alone suggest Basset does have some innovative nous. I also have no idea about their personal relationship, but Goodwin and Basset have pretty compelling connections (and Goody apparently helped lure Nathan to Essendon under Neil Craig). He also seems like a straight-up good guy.5 points

Great to see Macca back in everything. she is tiny but runs all day and was great in the first half5 points

Yes i thought this as well. Her work rate and pressure on the oppo was incredible. She gets to so many contests when the oppo seemingly look to be in the van and neutralises or taps to advantage. Pretty quick and athletic for her height. VG football brain. Always showed signs early but has imrproved a fair wack in the last 18 months. I'd say she has to be right up there with Taylor now.5 points

Mind boggling. We are not talking u12's country football here. This is AFLW, the highest level possible. Over a year since a goal kicked against us in a 4th quarter and we are scoring at nearly double the rate this year. We are truly seeing a freakishly brilliant football team and coach that I hope all MFC supporters appreciate. Wow!5 points

Very good win by a very professional team. Our ability forward of the ball is what sets us apart and our trust in team mates to not just hack the ball forward but hold onto it and carry it with handballs. Lots of teams have good midfielders but so much of it is quick dump kicks that are easy to defend. We have dynamic forwards and power runners that allow us to create space forward of the play and use it to score. That’s why we do so well late in games because we expose any drop off in running by carrying the ball forward and forcing them to defend in space. It’s especially effective in AFLW because a long kick isn’t as effective an alternative. It’s the old saying that your reward for running hard early in the game doesn’t come until late in the game.5 points

What most commentators have missed about this last quarter stat is the incredible discipline, concentration and ruthlessness this team displays. It's not just fitness. It's complete mental toughness. So many teams take their foot off the gas once they've sealed the win. Not this team. They are just something else. I've never seen a footy team push so hard right to the end. In any comp at any level. Stinnear and his team have created something quite amazing. I love the way they just swing changes and it just works. We can't ever let this bloke go. He can teach the men's team lots! Such an exciting time for this club. I hope more supporters get on this train.5 points

The Dees just won a game in Mordor. Absolutely sheeted it in. Who cares about the GF?5 points

leaving aside all the pro-filth sentiments in the media and afl, and looking at at it objectively, you would have to say that the filth had a very large dose of luck to even be in the gf with finals wins of 7 and 1 point, where in both cases their opponents were very stiff for a number of reasons. gf should really have been mfc/gws vs brisbane. please brisbane, humiliate the filth on saturday for the sake of humanity5 points

I’d like Cox to accidentally spoil Maynard attempting a regulation mark in the Collingwood goal square and watch as the Lions go coast to coast to kick the winner with 4 seconds left in the clock. That would bring me great joy.4 points

What I find ridiculous, if not actually corrupt, is the gifting of two end of first round draft picks in 2024 which are ostensibly subject to review but which are apparently “tradeable” in 2023. If North trades these picks then they can be bundled together to provide sufficient points to enable a trade to be concluded for pick #4 giving them the ability to draft a Ryley Sanders. Meanwhile, once the picks have been traded and used in 2023, how can they be reviewed in 2024? No wonder the clubs smell a rat.4 points

So by this reckoning Grundy and Mabior Chol are simply off discussion on this forum because they still have years left on their contracts?4 points

He won't be there as I reckon North will take him with the McKay compensation pick 3. The hard part with all this pick swap we need to know what clubs will get next year in relation to Father Sons and NGA picks. Such a massive advantage bulldogs have been massive winners in recent years, now Brisbane not only get NGA priority but also father Son which gives them another Ashcroft next season. Sydney and Brisbane should have limits on NGA as they have access to FS where as GCS and GWS don't as yet4 points

We're still eligible for free agency compensation should his contract warrant it.4 points

Would we swap a couple of second rounders for Ports future 1st? They get currency to bring in their 3 targets, we cash in some of this year for next.4 points

We were sold the projects background as the reason behind her sudden promotion to the role because they didn't want to release the truth around the breakdown of the former Pres and the entire executive. I think they've less head way in the last three years with more resources to get it moving. All eggs are supposedly now in the Caulfield basket. The club know that making finals, despite not winning them, means there is less pressure broadly on the need for an immediate solution.4 points
