  2. So it's last day of the school term today and instead of free dress, it's wear your footy gear day. MFC supporters out numbering every other team in the outer east. This is the future - I love it! GO THE MIGHTY DEMONS!!

  3. Straight Sets Simon has wasted yet another year through poor list management and team selection. Schache the sub and wasn’t even used, while we had ruck contests with no one going up and Grundy in the stands. Gawn totally exposed their backline with his marking when he was forward, we could have had a lot more of that with Grundy in the team. This is the least surprising result, lost at team selection yet again.

  4. After travelling from northern NSW to watch us shoot ourselves in the foot last week. Getting abused by the clowns that actually won. How can you be so angry when you won? Watching one of our champions being smashed and then denied justice, maybe it's time now for things to turn for us. Maybe everything will click somehow. Despite our injuries, we are running out games really well. Please breathe fire tonight boys. Lower your eyes Take a breath and kick straight. Against the odds, let's smash the blues and let's smash the AFL. A premiership is still there for us if we want it. I hate this league so much right now. I love this club.

  6. I'll be heading in quite early today to enjoy a couple pf pre game coldies. Perhaps I should call it a pre game celebration as I'm extremely , highly, fully confident of a win! There has been a lot of criticism of selection but to this I say 'bah" - we could play the drovers dog at CHF and still beat these pretenders. Prediction - All over at 3/4 time.

  7. We’ll finish next year top 4 again and with any luck injury wise we’ll be a real chance again. Having no consistent forward structure is always going to be a big ask in September. We win everywhere else. I love following the Dee’s while we finish top 4 year after year, I’ll take this over the neeld era any day. Catch ya next year DL

  9. Come on now, we weren't great last year whether that be to fitness and lingering injuries, but this year we have been shafted with injuries in the position we are most thin, losing Melk, Petty, Frisch for time, and still finished in 4th, took the Pies to the end after losing a Grade A player. Goody has continued to provide results and given us a chance to win. Is it perfect? No but lets not act like he has had access to the full arsenal.

  10. It was a very poor coaching performance. Goodwin was exhausted and you could tell. Schache as a sub. The coaching team just wasn't thinking straight. They were out of ideas. Spargo is a good role player but isn't winning you a game in the 4th. Our match winners choked. It was poor decision making to target Grundy and then not even back him in. You think bringing a player in like that who has such significant cultural impact as he did, almost immediately being "one of the boys" to suddenly being overlooked, doesn't have some sort of impact? Bringing in guys like Jordon when you have even a spark like Woewodin waiting to bring some energy in. Throughout 2022 refusing to play JVR so that in 2023 he is essentially still a rookie and inexperienced. It's a learning curve for Goodwin still and I'm sorry and people can attack me but I've never seen a choke like this in my life watching football. We were spooked so bad. And it completely dilutes the value of our flag. Some here refuse to admit it because they live in a bubble but as soon as we come up against the big boys we choke. And Goodwin is yet to show the coaching nuance to counter it.

  12. God we have some [censored] on this site. Injuries, umpiring, suspensions, and kicking for goal cost us big time. you just have position yourself and hope it goes your way when it counts. it didn’t. if you people think these guys didn’t give all they have just look at the reaction after the game. geelong was I this position for ten years between 2011 and 2022. it really hurts because it felt like we had a massive chance this year - perhaps more than any other in my lifetime (57 years). just got to get there again next year.

  13. I don’t know what you’re so upset about; we won expected score again This time 85-66. See all you at the Expected Prelim and our entry into Expected Grand Final. We need to bring in some forwards. We have too many pretending to be good forwards in their prime.

  16. Yeah, ah, I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that if Aaron Naughton was available we'd play him, y'know? On our list we have 13 players at least 194cm... May, Lever, McDonald, Schache, Grundy and Gawn. Brown (test?), Petty (inj), Van Rooyen (susp), Turner (kid, but has been given a recent run), Jefferson (kid), Adams (kid), Verral (ruck kid). Except for Grundy, every tall we've got who can realistically be expected to put in an AFL-level performance is on the field for us tonight. Van Rooyen, Howes (191cm), Jefferson, Adams, Verral, and Turner have all been grabbed in the last two drafts. Before that we invested pick 3 in a 200cm utility. We just picked up both Grundy and Schache in the last trade period, grabbed Ben Brown just a few years ago, and the two biggest traded in names on our list are May and Lever, both of whom we allegedly paid overs for at the time! We have a hole in our ship and if Goodwin is able to plug it and pump the water out enough to get us to the premiership, he's a freak'n genius. Which he might indeed be.

  17. A pathetic and insipid ending. You can't kick 9.17 and expect to win too many games of footy, let alone finals. I know we were cobbling together a forwardline minus Petty, Melksham and JVR, but we had more than enough chances to win the game, and botched them. I also felt our A grade midfielders didn't influence the games enough, when we desperately need them to boss games. The mantra leading into the finals campaign was win the big moments. We constantly [censored] the bed in pivotel moments. Shattered by two chokes in two weeks. Nothing more at this time, but numb is a good word for it.

  18. Cannot agree. MacDonald wasn't working. Schache should have had a run 30 minutes earlier

  19. Not having any talk about us being overrated.. we are the best side in it, should have won last week. This will be the flag we gave away.. mark my words, our biggest chance blown!
    10 points
  20. Not that it matters, cos we would have been thumped next week anyway, as will Carlton, but these last 2 games were the biggest choke I’ve ever seen in 5 decades. The way we kept kicking behinds just kept writing the perfect script for Carlton, who were frankly dreadful in the last half. Should have won that by 6 goals. Get ready for the ‘choke’ tag, fellow supporters.

  27. I’m utterly deflated. I love this club. I love being at the ground. I love following us week to week. So I hate that we’re not going to be there on prelim final weekend, again, when we should be. It’s not one issue. Too many things went wrong. Some were in our control - as everyone has said, the TMac/Schache situation was a debacle. TMac was terrible all night, it’s unfathomable that we didn’t sub him. The goal kicking, the ill-discipline, the fumbles, the botched passed. Some were out of our control - the absence of Petty, JVR, Melksham and Brayshaw, the umpiring, Carlton continually kicking crucial shots. Too much went wrong over the last 6 weeks. So the first 22 weeks of the H&A season is for nought. Our depth isn’t good enough. Our foot skills aren’t good enough. Our forward half play isn’t good enough. But at least we give ourselves the chance to compete. I’m sure at some point I’ll reflect on that positively.

  28. Steven May take a bow. Player of the finals for me. If everyone was as disciplined as him, we’d be much better off. Absolutely immense. And he’s not getting any younger.

  31. Name me a better choke. 2nd. Two losses to interstate teams at the MCG including one that hadn't won there for 10 years. 4th. Dominate Collingwood to oblivion but still lose. Lose to a Carlton team that can barely run after kicking 9.17. You can quote me all you like. The COVID Flag was a [censored] flag won in front of a rent-a-crown while every long suffering supporter was locked up at home. 4 finals at the MCG since and we lose all 4. It's such a colossal choking job fit for a minnow club trying to fit in with the big boys.

  37. Lucky we selected an impact player as the sub FMD seriously what were they thinking. Bringing Hibberd on in the last could've been a shot in the arm, nah let's go with the softest player since Jack Watts who can't provide fresh legs cos he could only really sub in for TMac who was just as pathetic. This team are a bunch of chokers, can't win on the big stage. Won off Broadway when we had the crowd numbers because about 30k neutrals jumped on the bandwagon. I am filthy.

  38. Steven May was great! Had Petty and a Melksham not got injured I reckon that flag was ours for the taking. Disgusting way to go out though

  39. Dropping a retiring Hibberd who smashed Jamie Elliot last game will be a huge blight on this club. Simply why.

  40. I've said it once and I'll say it again. When Burgess walked out, it wasn't just our fitness but a whole lot of professionalism that left too. Goodwin is too close to this group. Too much warm fuzzy culture and complete neglect to the forward half. He has completely coached the attacking nouse, system and instinct out of this team with his stupid squeeze em up strategy. We squeeze ourselves up. We can't transition to save ourselves.

  41. Grundy should have played. Useless shache sub. Just dumb.

  42. May was massive. Sparrow in the last, very good. A wise man once told me never to email (but I’m going to apply it to posting in this case) when angry, upset or otherwise emotional, so I’m going to leave it at that. I’ll be back.

  44. The Footy Gods were never going to let us have an easy comfortable finals, but I'm hoping the team have been hardened and motivated by the horror of the last week and are on for the first, of three, steps to redemption and the holy land. I'm visualising a energised and prolific Demons coming out tonight and putting a collective shiver up the spines of both the Lions and the Pies, while putting the Blues to the sword. Go Demons

  49. Just cannot see how Smith and Tmac as our two main talls are going to kick a winning score. Chandler and Pickett have barely fired a shot the last couple of weeks as well. The brunt of it all will be left to Fritsch unfortunately. Carlton have all the momentum and emotion wave going with them where as I question if the the mental and emotional toll from all the Brayshaw fallout will have an effect. Prove me wrong otherwise Melbourne.
