  1. Disappointing end to the season but I would like to take this opportunity to thank @KC from Casey for all your efforts this year.

  2. A random selection of their thoughts: I feel like people are putting way too much stock in that King's Birthday game and completely ignoring/forgetting that Melbourne have only beaten us like, twice in 7 or 8 years Melbourne are a good team with a strong midfield which if allowed to dominate the clearances will tear apart our zone defence. It's probably the team I'd least like to meet in a final. In the last 3 games since Petty went down Melbourne have scored 56, 87 & 77 points. Melksham kicked 5 goals in the last two rounds. The absence of these two will be a big advantage for us. But they have a readymade goalkicking KPF just waiting to show off his natural flair in the role he was born to play. Craig McRae likes playing both rucks Darcy Cameron and Mason Cox, but it’s hard to see both playing alongside Dan McStay and Brody Mihocek. The sticking point will be whether the Pies think they have enough aerial power against Demon intercept aces Steven May and Jake Lever. Bottom line for me is that we can shift magnets to match them at contest, but they can’t match our speed. I couldn’t believe they played him after he was limping so badly, when the game was a dead rubber for them. But this is the same team that had Petracca play with a broken shin bone last year. I am saying we can beat them. But their record against us has been solid over two seasons under fly. My point is that so far we haven't demonstrated that we can beat them on system alone They seem to have only about 5 posters? Tumbleweeds are blowing through their board. Last week of the snow season so not entirely unexpected. They have w***ers that post s**t on main board game day thread...mostly non Melbourne Demons games. Pretty sure they lost against Carlton too a couple weeks ago Did they though? Was a goal to Petracca. Carlton are so lucky Yeah I think Melbourne are being really overestimated and Port really underestimated. Melbourne have some great components but big holes and play stodgy footy. They have no forward line and their only means of winning is keeping good opposition to under 70 points. They dominated the game for 3 quarters and because they're conservative and have ordinary forwards - that dominance was nearly all undone on the scoreboard in a 5 minute patch. They'll have to control so much of the match to win. I like our chances of having enough bursts to topple them How much weight do you put in a performance v VFL standard opposition against the totality of a season 🤔 (Ref to Ess game for Ginnivan) Melbourne Controlled the game last time and took our run away whether it was illness through the club or having a bad day this week we need to bring Game A for 4 qtrs. do this and we win. On the ruckman: A few concerns playing Cameron - he isn't a first ruck, Gawn will maul him if he tries to out body him, his form of late has been a shadow of who he was however in saying this seems the coach has a preference of going in with two rucks. Just cannot face Melbourne with Darcy Cameron on his own. That's a truly terrifying thought. If he starts dominating Cameron the way Hickey did in the prelim final without the option of Cox going into the centre bounces (which changed the momentum of that final) then we are making it an even harder task than it already is. The reality is that Coxy should be the centre square ruckman v Gawn. … Unfortunately DC can't get off the ground, probably due to his injury and he'd be better off rucking against Van Rooyen or whoever Melbourne decide is their back up ruckman. There is absolutely no chance that Collingwood goes into a final against Melbourne with one ruckman; Gawn would tear us apart. Cox is safe. Favourites: Look its great to have a lots of guns if you are a tank, but we are a lamborghini built for speed… Certainly weakened by the loss of the Steakhouse Puncheur. He was doing plenty for them in the last half of this year. 7 days til game time. Going to be a long week. I reckon it might be 8 days He'll be right in a few hours. A man ahead of his time. Yeah I wouldn't drop our Ruckman unless we were trying to lose. Massive week coming up and i am already on edge Let the bourbon run free :) So, what are we going to do for the next 2 weeks. I'm tipping a BF pillow fight at some stage About two weeks of reading posters tell other posters that they are idiots and wrong when it comes to team selection ideas is infinitely more likely. We will win by about 3 goals but always nervous when Elliot plays. Hoping there are no magpies feasting in my garden next week!!

  4. Ms Binners jnr loved it. I went with a mate who has a young son who is dead keen on footy, but i think i'm right in saying that was the first AFLW game they had both seen. Both loved it. And i loved it - such an enjoyable vibe and atmosphere and like i said about the two finals there last year felt like a throw back in terms of going to the footy. To be clear though, i really loved the footy played, not just the 'vibe'. Ms binners take was the atmosphere was terrific, and much nicer vibe than at the men's footy. She said she loves that women fans are right into it and cheer and carry on, but it all feels so much less aggro than when blokes, including me, are yelling and screaming. The AFL is really in danger of killing the golden goose. So short sighted to see it as the AFL subsiding AFLW. In reality, over the journey, it will be AFLW that, perhaps not subsidize the AFL but protects it's future. Lets face it, Aussie rules is an indigenous game in what is really a very small market. The only way it survives over the next 50 years is continuing to grow its audience. A unique element of AFL is how many women watch it compared to say soccer in Europe. Participation not only grows the pool of elite players it also grows the audience. Every young women who plays any footy, no matter what level they get to, are going to be AFL fans for life. It has ever been thus - play footy as kid, dream of playing on the MCG in Spring, give up on those dreams and watch footy for the rest of your life. Princess park is just the perfect place for AFLW. The stand and surrounding parkland protect from the wind, the surface is like a golf fairway and the ground is a touch smaller than most. Everyone is raving about how skillful we were in the 3rd quarter. That doesn't happen in the howling wind down at Casey It's a total no brainer - invest in the infrastructure there, make it AFLW HQ and have a game there every single Friday night of the AFLW season. Make it an event vibe like last night, with a real focus on stuff for kids to do - so great to see so many kids just having a ball. Every fan knows there is game there on a Friday night, so just rock up ad know they'll see some good footy. Public transport is brilliant. The shorter quarters mean it is not such a late night for families and the vibe is really family friendly. All the Vic clubs would look forward to their turn for the Friday night special and turn up. Telecast it live on 7. Every Friday night. Make it part of the fabric of a Melbourne weekend at this time of year.

  5. Ralph really might help his articles by reading them, before he publishes them. His suggestion of Port’s deal to get him is we pay more of his contract and they give a late pick. I think I must misunderstand the situation. Grundy is contracted to us and Port want him. So in his suggestion we beg them to take him, an AA ruckman going to one of our main opponents, by paying part of his contract and getting a late pick back, after we paid pick 27 to get him, only one year ago. The inference is clear in his suggestion that Port hold all the chips. How do these blokes get and keep jobs in the media ?

  6. How good is Kate Roffey?! She saw us (banner crew) waiting on the boundary and she’d only just been given the premiership cup, she made a beeline directly to us. I asked her if we could touch it and she said, HELL YEAH!” She’s a huge fan of the DA and never fails to acknowledge us, no matter the event. She’s the best.

  7. Yeah, DP. I usually don’t like the GameDay thread negativity but like you I didn’t mind it yesterday because it shows there’s the same level of passion and respect as there is for the M’s. Same can’t be said for some folks though… Yesterday I was walking through Royal Park on my way to Ikon when a couple of golfers came along (I’m head to toe in red n blue) and one of them says, “there’s no footy on this weekend.” I said, “yeah there is.” He looks puzzled. I said, “Dees vs Pies, AFLW season opener.” He laughs and says, “oh, the micky mouse comp.” I just eyeballed him. He says, “what?!” I said, “I’m just wondering who ties your shoelaces for you of a morning.” We both look down at his feet. His shoes have Velcro, no laces. I said, “Never mind. Question answered.” The score thus far… WCW 1 Knuckle-dragger 0

  8. Just want to set the record straight they we paid the equivalent of pick 14 in draft pick points to trade up to pick 27 from Port Adelaide, to give this to the Pies. If Grundy does go to Port Adelaide, they of all teams know how much we gave up to get Grundy, and that was with unknown recovery from injury. I think the trade should be a future first with maybe a future third going back but definitely play hard ball.

  9. My favourite was the poster who said we should beat Melbourne easily as they are coming off a 4 day break, playing on a Thursday. Someone kindly pointed out the week's holiday! KB we kicked 6g 10b from set shots including 4 posters. They kicked 3 in the first 10min dues largely to our turnovers, and they kicked 2 goals in the last 45 seconds. The rest of the game we mauled them

  10. I am sure Collingwood supporters are making fun of us and are supremely confident. They did finish on top of the ladder as minor premiers afterall. So here's some classic jokes about Collingwood supporters from the comedian Trevor Marmalade back in the "old days" of The Footy Show on TV. 🤣

  11. In the world of elite sport, that’s just bio-anatomically observant, @rpfc. Same for the men. I reckon the team as a group looked fitter and stronger, almost as if they’d been working to that end! Their running, strength in the aerial contest and physicality in tackling was, to me at least, who went to the first Melb v Bulldogs game at the ‘G, exponentially greater than that of course, and simply better year on year. It’s just so satisfying seeing the comp evolve from its inception, despite the AFL’s half-arsed bet-hedging lack of optimal commitment. I look at Tyla Hanks, who I saw play in her first year (at Victoria Park), when I said to Mrs. Webber (yes, I did), she’ll be a Dees skipper one day, and how she’s now one of the best ‘pure’ footballing talents running around. It’s just plain exciting. Ikon Park (excepting for that big CFC logo) is perfect for AFLW, too. Just like I used to imagine a fully aligned women’s AFL comp, I like to imagine a time when the AFL has the gumption to build an AFLW specific stadium, and have a proper season, not some 10 round tease.

  12. We met with him in the middle of last season when he was a Collingwood player. Can’t really complain that he’s had a meeting with Port after the home and away season. Future first or we hold him to his contract.

  13. They can take over his whole salary and give us a commensurate pick. They can trade in picks. They have all their future picks. Our draft picks are: 5, 15, 24, 34, 89 plus a full hand of future picks. We only need a pick that will help us trade up the draft for the one or two elite players we are targetting. Freeing up about $650k in our sal cap is a bit of a bonanza. Help us reward and keep the next gen players. TL isn't going to become Bell or Dodoro who want to win every trade and lose sight of the big picture. A deal will get done that benefits us in a broader sense but it may not look like a trade win.

  14. OK, here is the thread many have been waiting for. It seems that neither sub during my absence has taken up the mantle again😢. I greatly thank @Bitter but optimistic and @DeelightfulPlay for entertaining you. They both did a far better job than I do. Their efforts and the posters in those threads really made me laugh. I quite liked how the North thread was side tracked by street art and whisky!! It is with great trepidation that I have waded into the Pies bigfooty but shortly I will post their waffle!!

  17. Finals are all about execution on the day. I am grateful for the opportunity the club is giving me to make myself sick with anxiety and trepidation. But I can live with being beaten by a team that can execute better on the day - but after last year - we are due to be on the winning side of that ‘execution battle’… We look fit, our best players are at least fit with only two adjusting to long breaks out injured, and we are in form with what we are good at - contest and defence.

  19. I just got home. It’s been such a long day, my feet are killing, I’ve got no voice and I have the mother of all headaches, but none of that matters. Tonight was phenomenal! So proud of this team and thrilled to see them get season 8 off to a flyer. ❤️💙

  21. From today … Jefferson. Yes the first year for Jefferson was all about development. Have to give him a few years of physical growth to see if he’s able to make it. He showed signs at times imv but it’s still a 50/50 call. Adams. Like his defensive spoils and will be better for a full preseason in the gym. Not clear that he’s going to be the successor to May but let’s give him extra time. Rookies. Verrell. Looks good. Injury set him back this year. Definitely could be a ruck/forward future option but again it’s 2025 and beyond for him imv. AMW is a likely Yes. Still raw but like his tackling and goal smarts. Like to see him and Kozzzy in the same team next year. A good summer might see him in contention for a senior game in the first half of next year. Farris-White. Raw. A long way off.

  24. Went along, the Melbourne boys were very nice to my little man (trac in particular). Not a lot else to excite. AMW has a future and I think Verrall will too, even though he made some errors. Have significant doubts on Jefferson across a number of facets - competitiveness, athleticism, fitness. Moved like a 35 year old and just did nothing to make defenders worry about him. Adams could be something but needs work. They missed Dunstan tremendously. Bill Laurie and Schache were walking the boundary - told them they should both be playing. Tomlinson is massive in person and Melk walking around without crutches, weird to think he needs the best part of a year of rehab... A large chunk of the Melb team attended. Didn't see Grundy, koz, Fritsch but struggle to think of too many others who weren't there.

  27. Let me guess. We are the best in it. We’ve been faking this poor form. We wanted other clubs to think we are not good. Fly will have us playing a totally different game plan. They only beat us because we were sick and missing key players. We will win the flag. Melbourne are no good. I got my day released approved. I sold my last tooth for a ticket.

  30. I remember posting with Gawn that we shouldn’t expect anything for 6 years much to the frustration of the heaving masses on here; this cuts both ways - both groups that are thinking Jefferson can be best 23 in 2024/5 and those that deride him in his first year - are placing unfair expectations on him.

  32. Not too worried about Matt Jefferson yet. He just needs to have a big pre-season and look to build fitness and muscle in the gym. It is only his first year on an AFL list. Plus he isn't Jack Watts and we can't put all our hopes in him. Matt Jefferson just needs time to develop at Casey. Lastly, I thought Andy Moniz-Wakefield played really well actually. There were a few positives at least! 🤷🏼‍♂️

  33. Ok, now I’m [censored] angry. Was amused up until this comment. And whereas I’ve been hoping we beat them - even just by a point - now I want us to absolutely smash them. A hearty dose of humiliation is what’s on the menu. Then we can laugh at the stupid faces of the uncultured swine that are their supporters while they leave the ‘G nice n early, just as many of them did last night at Ikon. And for dessert? Watching them get knocked out the following week. All those H&A wins for nought.

  37. Far out that was a shaky start. But this isn't a team that's fazed by a bunch of behinds on the scoreboard (it's a familiar enough scenario heh). A few of ours will be better for the run, to put it politely. Haven't seen us turn the ball over so badly in ages, especially in the back line. Once the engine room clicked into gear though, we were unstoppable. The opposition can't find forward line space if we just never let it down there, I guess. Highlights: - #1 has to be the return of McNamara. Wore a big tackle early in the game - the mental strength is admirable. Had a solid game too and love her and B.Mackin as a dynamic wing duo. The latter was everywhere. 396 metres gained, the second on the ground. In her second season of footy...ever. - Heath, talk about scoreboard reward for effort. Davey is a tough customer and you might look at Heath standing next to her and wonder, but Dees fans know Shelley's tenacity personified. - Bannan is such a rollercoaster of a player. Looks completely out of it at times then just lights it up. - Campbell was as I'd hoped and her role was welcome because L.Pearce is going to need increasing help I think. - Calling it now, Paxy will play til 40, one of few who held the standard for a full four quarters. They've still got it! Lowlight: - Didn't manage to hear the "We are the girls from Casey Fields chant" all night - must have been in some kind of sound vortex cause I don't doubt the Demon Army were loud and proud as usual.

  38. No matter which AFL club drafts Harry DeMattia, he will forever be known as a Demon because in the other sport at which he excels - cricket - Harry has represented Melbourne in Premier District Cricket. Indeed, the talented cricketer/footballer already took part in that game at its highest level when he was a substitute fielder for the Australian cricket team during last year's Boxing Day Test against South Africa. I first came across his name about four years ago when I read about his exploits as a junior footballer with Edithvale-Aspendale where he played in their Under 14 premiership, topped the competition goal kicking with a tally of well over the ton including one 20 goal haul. A couple of years later, the name cropped up at the MCC where he was generating interest as a left arm leg spinner and making the senior team at 16 years of age. Next thing, he’s playing footy with the Dandenong Stingrays as an underage player in 2022 and this year, the speedy midfielder/forward was the Vic Country co-captain. He runs the 20-metre sprint in 2.94 seconds, looks and plays like a true X factor cat. One to watch in the Coates League and a likely late first, early second round selection.

I was looking forward to this weekend because with no football, I had planned to sink many hours into Starfield... until I discovered it was in "early access" and you have to pay $50 just to "unlock" it. I'll wait until next week to play it with Game Pass. I know that means nothing to most people here but just know there are far bigger scams in this world then the cost of AFL Finals tickets.

That may be the spin but we all know it's because they knew the Coll/Melb QF would be a sellout regardless of when it is played and the Carl/Syd game had a better chance of a massive crowd if on a Friday. It's always about the numbers for the AFL, they don't give a stuff about the clubs or supporters.
