To elaborate on why I think Freo won't make the 8 next year: Their major list changes: Out: Logue: 20 games in 2022 Tucker: 14 games in 2022 Acres: 20 games in 2022 Mundy: 22 games in 2022 Lobb (probably): 21 games in 2022 Meek (probably): 8 games in 2022 In: Jackson: 22 games in 2022 Corbett: 4 games in 2022 Sharp (probably): 12 games in 2022 They may have others coming in but they are unlikely to overcome my doubts: They are losing a lot of experience from their best year in eons and not a lot of experience back in. It will take them a while to assimilate new players and fill the gaps by those going out. Synergy and consistency are big factors in winning games and I reckon it will take them a long time to get that next year and to settle in new players. By which time their chances of the 8 may have slipped. I expect Port and Carlton to make the 8 next year and I see Freo and Bulldogs as the most vulnerable to fall out. They will have a harder draw. So I'm happy to take Freo's future pics.18 points

[censored] people need to relax. Nobody has any idea what the final analysis will look like so what is the point of complaining about specific draft picks. We got our haul and watch what happens either at the end of Wednesday night or next year if we decide to keep a our future first rounder, (which I think we will). If we manage to use 13, 27 and some other selections to move into the top 6 or 7 this year and then have two first rounders for next year to play with at a stronger draft, you can't not be excited about what that will look like. As so many calm heads have already stated, we have no idea what the ramifications would be if we'd dug our heels in any longer. We've got it done clearly so we can concentrate on the myriad of opportunities that now lie ahead for this draft. How about we wait until Wednesday night to reassess eh?16 points

I don't know the trade details but I'm already really disappointed with the result15 points

I don’t mind the trade. Not perfect but something to work with. Two first rounders and a second rounder is unprecedented for a player that has just come off a poor season, and to not have to give up a second rounder. Sure, if he had a great season we should be getting a top 10 pick but the point is he didn’t and potential is a dirty word. Luke Jackson is potential at this stage. Here’s to a productive Tuesday and Wednesday by the club.13 points

Well thank god that’s over. It was really a one horse race and they had limited realistic further chips for us to ask for. You cant make players come and you cant force other clubs to give up high picks. Lets just maximise what we received for the full picture this year and next and ensure we nail what we do with them.13 points

He’s not a demon anymore, so I look forward to Steven May belting the back of his head “spoiling” a few high balls next year. He’s already missing two front teeth, what’s a few more 😉12 points

Dees get deals done. We're a pleasure for oppo clubs to work with and have built a great reputation on the back of that. Freo have no idea how to play the game and watch them not meet expectations next year and for us to land a top 12 draft pick from them.11 points

It’s done! Finally! Bring on the draft and let’s move into 2023. Freo got a good deal, but also gave everything that they had to give; those expecting more were always going to be disappointed. For all the talk, it really did turn out that he was always going to Fremantle and they knew it. Asides from letting him go to the PSD, the club did everything it could.11 points

Nah, Tim Lamb needs to come out and give a forensic account to us, the most important stakeholders in the organisation. It's an indictment on the FD that they signed off on this... 😂 The amount of posters with greater expertise in negotiating on here amazes me 👌10 points

Fingers crossed the dockers have a shocker next year and finish outside the 8....10 points

Aside from our Rnd 1 win against the Crows in Adelaide that was our most complete performance of the year. The Bulldogs are still a half decent side but we comprehensively beat them all over the ground. We had 66 more disposals, a whopping 28 more inside 50’s (40-12), 19 marks inside 50 to 3 and 107 to 82 contested possessions. We did lose clearances 20-26 and somehow the free kick count 12-15. Olivia Purcell - Topped the disposal count for us (25) and also the tackle count (9). In one of the podcasts it was said she gets a case of white line fever when she walks on the ground and it shows. She is a ferocious competitor. Is seemingly getting better each and every game and looks like a bargain after picking her up for pick 15 and 47 from Geelong. Midfield. Purcell/West/Hanks. Bloody hell they were fantastic today. They are achieving a real synergy together particularly getting the ball from inside to out into clear air. They did this time and time again. My only concern is, at an average height of 160cm (5’ 2”) we lack size and the brute strength of someone like the Adelaide mids. Harris. You get the feeling the former Brisbane and Carlton player was pretty unsettled until she got to Melbourne. The video suggests she is now at home and enjoying her footy. At 1.26 she describes her forward line colleagues as ‘the best’ and I think she is talking about them as human beings. Talking about bargain pick ups, I stand to be corrected, but to secure her we effectively parted with pick 32 https://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/1235465/aflw-rd-7-tayla-harris-post-match?videoId=1235465&modal=true&type=video&publishFrom=1665299649001 Paxman. Earlier this year (S6) some posters here were saying Karen was done. Well she is back baby. Playing more of an outside and link roll suits her skills beautifully. Huge head clash yesterday. Is she done for the day? Nope, just chuck a few stitches in their and she’ll run out and put her head over the ball. Inspiring. Whilst fellow team stalwart and original Daisy Pearce is hanging up the boots this year Paxy still looks to have a good couple of years in her yet. And to finish up - Goldrick. Earlier someone wrote that you have to love Goldy. You do. Yes she coughs the ball up a bit but that tackle on Ellie Blackburn was brilliant. The joyful response from our team and the subsequent Bannon goal was my favourite play for the day. Go Dees.10 points

We got the best deal we could in the circumstances. Best to move on with our other business. We have a reputation for being fair to deal with. It's the right policy. Except when it comes to Freo. The next time we deal with them, and we have the leverage, we should screw them to the boards.9 points

We can't force teams to offer up what we think is a fair trade. Yep. we got 'unders' but if that is all that is offered our alternative to accepting what is on offer is to send Jackson to draft and get nothing in return.9 points

The end result is all that matters, so let's just wait and see the whole picture.9 points

Agree. I don't care about his leg speed - he is an excellent kick, which is what we really need. And is a reliable set shot, so can play the rotating half forward mid chop out role. If Salem can get back to his best, Bowey comes back in and we snare Hunter, then suddenly our kicking skills looks a lot better.9 points

Silly boy, should have kept his mouth shut. Has just admitted to lying to everyone. Didn’t need to say anything. Shows he is not the smartest cookie in the packet. Anyway, wish him well personally, but I hope Freo never beats us while he is a Docker.8 points

In fairness it wasn’t just him. Matt Rendell said - in his year end review - our fitness was dodgy all year and TMac out was a structural deficiency we could never overcome and that with a good pre season we’d be a lock for top 4 again. So on this crappy day let’s just remember where we are at and it’s LJ’s loss not ours.8 points

The club probably knew at the same time, which is why Clarry and Gus were signed to long term deals.8 points

Two firsts and a second with nothing much back is about as good as we could possibly have got really. Now, if only Freo can tumble on down the ladder next year please8 points

This is the deal to hold our ground on. Collingwood don’t want him. There’s no way Grundy wants back in. The contracts are surely sorted. And we’re 2 picks in the 20’s apart. Sliding 3 spots higher up to climb 2 spots late is illogical. Collingwood are only going to send the pick on to Hawthorn anyway. They can cope8 points

Well now the Jackson deal is done, we have nothing to gain by trading Weideman unless Essendon offer us something decent. Perhaps their second round pick to on trade for Grundy, or a third round to sweeten the Grundy deal or bundle up with our second round to move up? We gotta get value for this deal. I know Weideman is a bits player, but we are so short on ruck and forward depth, and we have invested so many years into him. To lose him for a pick we won't even use, is just silly.8 points

Although I am sorry that Sam didn’t work out for MFC I wish him all the best at Bombers he could do alright as a lead up forward standing next to Wright in their forward line. Good luck Sam safe travels.!!8 points

Hunter would be a nice addition, compliments our midfield group nicely. Doesn't have the speed although he's an elite endurance runner but has great composure and use by hand and foot which is the main thing IMO. Hits great kicks that open up play and his release handballs are fantastic. Could be a solid opposite wing to Langdon.8 points

I got reliable info over the weekend that Lachie Hunter will be a demon next year with the doggies paying up to $200k of his salary.8 points

Anyone familiar with the NHL? I believe the salary cap and trading setup is what the AFL needs to emulate. A third year player like Jackson, out of contract, would be a restricted free agent. If freo offer him a big contract we have option to match it. If he walks, we get compensated based on the contract. If he were contracted and the team he wanted to get to doesn't have the ability to satisfy the controlling team in a trade, then bad luck, you can go somewhere else or stay. Also, the AFL needs to remove the PSD. Why does this even exist? If a team cannot be satisfied by the destination club, the player should return to original club under a standard one year contract. If this were the situation, Freo would have to offer something reasonable. Currently they have no incentive to pay market value for LJ.8 points

Pleased with the trade. I liked watching Jackson play but I never rated him as a ruckman. He's not tall enough and the opposition had him largely worked out this year. His tap work is worse than poor, and as long as his backside points to the ground he'll never be a better ruckman than Darcy. He desperately needs to improve his marking technique and if he plans on making his name as a Blicavs type player he needs a much bigger tank, and a lot more game sense. His late third quarter GF effort is greatly appreciated and it's churlish to hold any hard feelings given that he more than paid his dues by helping us win a flag. I hope for his sake he doesn't get overwhelmed by the Perth fish bowl. We have a great opportunity to further improve our list over the next two drafts now and capitalise on the incredible talent we have in our ranks.7 points

Says he knew from mid year. Met with them in the bye week. Pitches from both WA teams. feeling like he had checked out from then. thanks for the flag, hope you never see another, except on TV.7 points
