Can’t blame the umpires when you play like that. Dead in the water, Collingwood licking their lips for QB. We kicked the first 5 goals of the game and then could only kick 4 more. Offence is rubbish. At least we didn’t get blown out like vs Freo10 points

The world’s worst kept secret is now almost official. Brown is not on the AFL site’s Casey Demons team and, as stated above, Jack Bell’s name is now on the interchange list. If Brown is out because he’s been elevated to play for Melbourne, then surely he’s replacing Tom McDonald. A butterfly flaps it’s wings at a VAFA B Section game and it’s effect is felt at the highest level of the game!9 points

Not sure if this fits the title of humble but, here's my take anyway, I went to Windy Hill. It was 1990. My "Essendon friend" invited me to the Essendon-Melbourne match, and having a hunch that the Dees were a chance to knock off the top-of-the-ladder Bombers on their home turf, I accepted the invitation. Little did I know what was about to transpire... We arrived at the ground and walked to the standing room area in the the outer on the wing. I looked around and became aware that I was surrounded by Essendon supporters. I had expected this, and steeled myself for the contest. The game began and for the first 3 quarters, Essendon were in control. At 3/4 time, Darren Bennett had only kicked one goal. With 15 minutes to go in the last quarter, the score was Essendon 104, Melbourne 70. I had remained resolute and refused to admit defeat. I had been receiving sledges all afternoon from the surrounding Essendon supporters - including my "Essendon friend". However, the final 15 minutes of the 4th quarter were something to behold. Ricky Jackson was on fire and he would finish the game with 4 goals. Strawbs O'Dwyer, Steven Stretch, Brett Lovett, Todd Viney, Garry Lyon, Jimmy Stynes, Graeme Yeats, Danny Hughes, Earl Spalding, and Sugar Healy all pulled the stops out. Melbourne's pressure was immense! But Darren Bennett was absolutely possessed! He booted 4 in the last quarter and was the match winner. At the 15 minute mark I yelled "There's still time - GO DEES!". Raucous laughter ensued from the surrounding Bomber supporters. With each ensuing Demon goal I repeated GO DEES! - there's still time! When we eventually hit the front, I was shaking, and there was a beautiful silence around me. This repeated with an even more perfect silence with yet ANOTHER Melbourne goal. When the siren went, I couldn't believe what I had just witnessed. I was elated. I walked with my "Essendon friend" from the outer down the steps to exit the ground. BANG! I was king hit in the back of my head! Fully lost my balance and only just regathered it near the bottom of the steps. I turned around and yelled who did that? Nobody owned up. I invited my "Essendon friend" to the pub to watch the replay but he declined. I went and enjoyed watching a memorable Demon victory at a local Essendon pub. Afterwards, I made it home safely on public transport. I never spoke with my "Essendon friend" again. Make of this story what you wish. However, if you want to see the Dees run riot against the Bombers and watch Darren Bennet kick 4 goals in the last quarter at Windy Hill 1990, click on this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chP6t-wz80g Let's hope the Dees bring this against the Swans tomorrow! Yeah look we aren't winning a flag this year. There is so many concerns on all lines and that's not even counting that our pressure is ranked 17th in the league. Forget the umpires, our style of play from start to finish was horrible to watch. Why we continue to just rush all night by playing on or having one too many handballs to a teammate to then put them under enormous pressure is bizarre. Backline has turned to [censored]. Steven May is now our most influential and important player. When he doesn't play the rest turn to water. That's an apology to Petty who battled manfully tonight. Jayden Hunt has over 100 games of experience and he is still one of the dumbest footballers going around. Not forgetting he touched the ball 3 times tonight as a [censored] half back flank. Jake Lever is horribly out of form and it's costing us. When we need some form of leadership while May is out Lever has failed to stand up 2 weeks in a row. Simply not good enough. Our midfield is seriously all over the shop. Rushed handballs and dump kicks into either no one in particular or straight to the opposition. Petracca, Viney and Sparrow are huge butchers of the footy. Our efficiency going inside 50 is just horrific and these guys are main culprits alongside a few others like ANB who's not much chop either going forward. Really think our midfield needs a huge shake up and I'd be getting Brayshaw in there personally just to add something different. Don't get me started on the forward line.. I think this is a significant concern moving forward and beyond as the likes of Tom McDonald, Ben Brown and Mitch Brown are all 30 years of age or over, plus a former first rounder who is only a VFL standard player. Our only hope is an 18 year old kid who is still unknown. All of these guys are either badly out of form or injured and I can't see this forward structure holding up this year. Besides Pickett, our smalls are barely impacting the scoreboard. Spargo has only kicked 4 this year and ANB just the 2 goals. It's just simply not good enough. All in all a very disappointing display. Our current game style won't hold up and we could easily be out of top 4 very soon if there isn't significant changes to it.8 points

I think I speak for most Dees supporters when we all simply want to go the football and enjoy watching the best Melbourne side of our generation. I have nothing but positive feedback from mates, family and other supporters seeing our club being successful and im going to enjoy the ride. If that's perceived as not being humble then that's there problem. And if anyone has a problem with us enjoying the plight of Essendon or West Coast then they have not been Dees supporters long enough.8 points

Well f me we looked absolutely knackered there in the last. Those intercept marks by Syd in defence screwed us. Better hope we're in the midst of some serious loading on the training track because our much vaunted fitness looks to have evaporated.7 points

Our efforts at contested footy, our decision making & our delivery inside 50 have all been appalling for a while now. Better to have these issues now then at the end of the season though.7 points

That’s not our style anymore and thank goodness for that. I rather not ruin a kid with a heap of potential. Weideman has to step the [censored] up. I’ve had a gutful of him. He’s been handed a golden opportunity this year to possibly be a premiership player and he has simply not taken it.6 points

Their key forwards McDonald and Reid 6.2 from 32 touches. Brown and Brown 0.1 from 12 touches. Big fail from our tall forwards.6 points

Completely agree. I was chatting to anyone who'd listen to me after those games, saying we're going to drop a few, probably these games, and they thought I was just being a depressive Dee. Was crystal clear. It's going to take some serious work to turn this around. We need to beat the Pies and regroup over the bye. Rediscover the hunger, work on skills, and stop dumping the ball into the 50 time and time and time again!!!6 points

In 2018 when Zach Tuohy goaled after the siren to sink us, a Collingwood-supporting mate sent me a text saying "Gee, that must sting!" complete with laughing emoji. I didn't bite at the time, but took great delight in sending him the exact same text when Dom Sheed kicked the winning goal to beat the Magpies in that year's Grand Final. He didn't take it well.6 points

The best thing fitting into the 71-80 bracket is that I have seen and been to 7 premierships inc last year as the only "seen". I consider myself f-ing lucky compared to a lot of Dee"s supporters. Fit as I am (thanks to the good folk at the Alfred/Sandy) I hope to see quite a few more. Go Dee's.5 points

Am sitting Southern Stand Level 2. Me and 1 other, almost within shouting distance. Feels like 1972. Amazing how the footy improves at a great venue. Was thinking Mitch Brown could be sub. Unlikely I know, but possible. Disco Turner is gonna be a footballer!5 points

Really interesting test for the AFL this week (bigger than the Buddy test) in their reaction to the Smith headbutt. Do they make a clanging example of the mullet-haired poster-boy insta-hero, or do they squib their responsibilities to the game’s principles of non-violence for the sake of TV viewership? I’m suspecting they’ll go hard, but only because the Dogs are way off the pace.5 points
-
Ours. Because in the ladt couple of seasons the swans have moved away from a contest and territory game plan, to a move it quickly by hands and running from the back half plan. Which is a style similar to the dogs. And similarly at risk of breaking down under pressure - or in wet slippery conditions. Plus they simply don't have enough strong, seasoned bulls in their midfield. I suspect they will bring at least one, probably two extras to stoppages and look to win tge clearance battle. We won't match them so lets hope tracc is fit and firing. Look for maxy to take more ruck tonight5 points
-
Probably ended up costing them the game with that brain fade. ...and on a similar note, the dogs have a couple of players with short arms. Did not commit to contact in marking contests in the 3rd Q. ...and another other note, Weightman. I don't know, the dives, the acting in general play, nearly ending the year of that kid at Geelong by taking his legs out. He needs a good kick up the backside by his coach for a start. At least the umpires have woken up to him. At the moment he's a liability in big games. Koz was the right pick that's for sure. ...and another, other, other note. What was Treloar thinking? If Smith didn't cost them the game, Treloar certainly did.5 points

Great focus for development: "I try not to focus on how I'm going to fit into the team or whose spot I'm going to take because I feel like if I do, it will negatively impact my performance and I'll start worrying about the wrong things. The conversations I've had with 'Goody' (coach Simon Goodwin) have been around becoming the best player I can be and when I do get my chance, I can come into the team I'll stay there and won't just be there for two weeks and get dropped. "I'm just focusing on the process of what makes me a good player and becoming a really good player and if that takes a bit longer than other people I'm more than happy with that, I'll just keep working as hard as I can." Well done for another two years!5 points
