Sending ❤️❤️❤️to everyone back in Melbourne, so fortunate to be there tonight and what did I see absolute ruthless hungry demons side . Work dragged call day, was nervous wreck all day. Went into overload just before halftime when they kicked two, had a couple of frothies with the brother at halftime who said You’ve got this your boys are hunting in packs and 2 goals away from putting Geelong away. I was still pessimistic but my lord they are a good side24 points

Finally in bed. Scrolling online. It’s hit me that we are in a grand final and that we won’t be able to share the moment with the players. And that really hurts. It hurts because we’ve suffered a lot as a supporter base. If you aren’t a Melbourne supporter you just have no understanding of the deep scars, the heartache, the loss and the failure we’ve been through together. We have been through it all just to experience this moment. I am incredibly emotional and it’s a mixed bag of pride, and excitement, and deep sadness. I am beyond proud of what this club has achieved this year already. Beyond excited for what is to come. And incredibly happy for everyone at the club who has worked so hard for this moment, but more importantly, for all of our supporters.23 points

Well said, @Jaded. I can also feel the nagging hurt under the exuberant joy. It's not hollow - it's full. Full of pride and appreciation for the players and the fans that could get there, for the Perth community that obviously chose the world of men and righteousness over the Orc and goblins of Mordor. I am sad for myself and my dad and for you, and Nasher and Andy and 55 and Redleg and WJ and those of us that have spent draining years, talking amongst each other when the club was irrelevant and nowhere. Now it's everywhere and at the height of its relevance where our spectators are incapable of even enjoying it together in person - let alone at the ground. But we get to see the Demons run around in our jumper in the last Saturday in September and it is something to cherish. And we will be doing that together...20 points

I don't post on here often but I just have to say that was bloody amazing !! Still feel like I am floating on air So proud of our club !! From where we have to been to now is unbelievable and you can just tell that they are still so focussed on what is to come. My late grandfather was recruited to the Dees back in the 40's or 50s but never got the chance to play as he did his knee and then his father put a stop to his career to work. As a young kid would I go to the footy with my best mate and his family and loved the whole experience of getting to the G and seeing Schwarz , Lyon, Tingay , Neitz , Farmer etc, etc do their thing ! Sadly my best mate tragically passed away at aged 13, we both loved the Dees, and I know he will be smiling from above today ! I have lurked on Demonland since 2007 and I've constantly loved the discussions, humour and debates on all matter of topics, even when the only thing to get truly excited about the impending arrival of a new coach or early draft pick. So Thank you to all the contributors who make it happen. I was at the ground for 186, and 148 against the Bombers at the G, so have seen the darkest of times ! In those times I use to just pray for a competitive performance. But to be a Melbourne Supporter and member today feels incredible. The work the whole club as done to turn things around off field and on field is just fantastic. Sad not be able to attend the GF. But lets hope the boys bring it home 👊🔴🔵19 points

Well that was a night I'll never forget, easily the best game I've seen us play we were relentless and how good was it in the last, we manically tried to stop Geelong from scoring, absolutely ruthless display that was incredible to witness. And wasn't it good to see TMac drop back in the last, it was like hmmm? we have that option too. Boy did big Max get us out of our seats he was gobsmackingly good I can't believe the level he went to and then topped it off with that chase down tackle. Everyone contributed a highlight it was such an even performance. I particularly want to mention Salem, my goodness he's as hard as a cats head and patrolled that half back line with aplomb. Young Bowey the kid is ridiculously clean, keeps his feet and consistently makes good decisions he is a gun!! Being in a pro Melbourne crowd took me back to my early teens when I was with friends in the members stand at the MCG. My family moved to Perth when I was 16 and besides going to a Melb v Coll game in the late 90s (we won by 54 points which is the second best live game I've been to) every game since has been a WA home game. To be part of a large contingent of Melbourne supporters was amazing and on reflection nurturing and therapeutic we miss out on that over here. There was so much excitement during and after the game high fives with random people, we broke into the song with others on our long walk back to the car and heard a Transperth bus full of supporters singing as it went past us. It was a truly memorable night and everything I'd hoped for and to top it off the Stadium and Bridge to East Perth were lit up in Red and Blue after the game. Amazing.19 points

Scanning will tell the story. Not to get too complicated, but the way it happened, by landing on his straightened leg, thus compressive force transferring up to his Lumbar facet joints, which can absolutely refer pain to the posterior thigh thus tightening the hamstring as a reaction, it’s entirely possible his back is the cause. This would be fantastic, because 2 weeks is ample to rest, loosen, stretch and away he goes. The ‘typical’ hammy is a running injury, accelerating or decelerating, resultant from a wicked conspiracy of length and tension, thus a tear. If May’s is a tear, it’s ‘grade one’, scan will reveal it and he’s a no go, because 3 weeks minimum. The cruel thing is he‘ll likely feel fine by the GF, even be up to full sprint. The problem is that the risk of re-tear under 3 weeks is very high, particularly in a game situation - fatigue combined with ballistic, accelerating take-offs and speed contrasts. The scan will tell all. All Demonland fingers crossed please.16 points

Probably now is the time to tell you all about the tunnel I’ve dug across the Nullarbor. The tunnel starts in my bedroom and is hidden behind a Raquel Welch poster. My wife doesn’t know.16 points

How does one come down after a win like that? Lying in bed at 12.30 am, reading the posts, and icing my right ankle. Grade 1 sprain jumping for joy in front of the TV after Gawn's snap out of the ruck. Like Steven May, I should be right for the GF thanks to the bye week. So many thoughts. Other old timers on Demonland will understand. I was drawn to follow this Club as a teenager by the brilliance, loyalty and humility of Robbie Flower. There have been long dark periods with only occasional flickers of hope since. But nothing, absolutely nothing like this. Doesn't matter what happens in the GF, I am just so proud of this team. And when I dare to dream, I see Gawny holding the Premiership Cup with the team, and I'm sure that I see others in the background: Robbie, Jimmy, Sean and all the supporters who couldn't live to see it. But there's one more game, one more challenge against another very good side. A challenge that this team will embrace (as Goodwin so calmly states) And, like the team, I have to put fresh ice on my ankle to prepare...16 points

Harry Petty what can I say. From one of the worst first games I’ve witnessed live v St Kilda, to destroying the so called ‘3 headed monster’ with May on one leg. (With all due respect to an unbelievable game from Lever). I heart you Harrison Petty.16 points

In honour of the club’s sponsor I’ve knocked back a fair few Furphy’s! They taste bloody good I tell ya what. Now I do have to say a couple of notes: I’m gutted (like so many here) that we aren’t seeing this live, it’s a cruel twist of fate but the players are playing for us even on the other side of the country. There are going to be those who miss out that have deserved to be a part of it. Jonesy is the obvious one, Melksham is extremely unlikely, and of course poor Tommo who was in tears after the game. It’s heartbreaking, but I love all of you guys. On a positive, despite it not being in Melbourne I have to say thank you to the WA public for getting behind the Dees. They loved cheering for Max Gawn and I have no doubt that he was putting on a show for them. Great atmosphere, not gonna beat the G on GF day but nothing does. All aboard the Melbourne train!15 points

I know some will have different opinions on cat supporters but reading their forum on bigfooty they've taken the defeat with grace. This comment stood out to me. We’ve just been beaten by the team that will probably win the next 2 or 3 flags so can’t be too upset. We are now being respected by opposition supporters.14 points

I’m really struggling to know what to say. 43 years of loving this club, and they get into this position, and play so well, and my mind is literally struggling to comprehend it. It’s like having a pet dog that you’ve always loved and one day it just stands up, starts talking, and then makes you a rock solid negroni. You can see it happening, but you still don’t understand it.14 points

My name is Maximus Decimus Gawnridus, captain of the Melbourne Football Club, ruckman for my midfielders and loyal servant to the true coach, Simon Goodwin. Father to no son yet. Husband to a lovely wife. And I will have my premiership, in this life or the next.13 points

Geelong should have played Dan Andrews in their starting 22 tonight. He's the only one that can shut down Melbourne.13 points

Logged on to Demonland about 40 minutes ago and and I swear I've been staring at my computer screen during that time in total disbelief, unable to type even the slightest semblance of a sentence as I'm simply at a total loss of where to even start after what we've all just witnessed. Never in my wildest dreams (and boy have there have been some wild ones), could I have imagined what transpired tonight. If Maxy wasn't already immortalised in Demon folklore with his goal after the siren to give Melbourne the minor premiership, he is a certainty now after single handily ripping the heart out of Geelong during that third quarter. No one, NO ONE, played poorly tonight. This was perfection personifed. Magnifique...13 points

He actually appears to be a Salem clone. Solid in the contest, good footy IQ (ie reads the play well and makes good decisions) and is a beautiful user. Some of those passes through the eye of the needle last night were insane. I think what Bowey has on Salem is leg speed. Our development and coaching (along with recruitment) has been A grade in 2021. Tom Sparrow also very good the times he was involved.12 points

Unreal. It's just incredible that this is us doing this. The plaudits will rightfully come for Gawn (Naitanui can go [censored] a [censored], tonight put to bed any "debate" about who is the competition's best ruckman), Viney, Petracca and Oliver, but this was a 22-player effort. Langdon's run on the wing was far too much for their wingers. Brown's contested marking was critical, particularly early when the nerves were high (and another quiet two goals). Brayshaw looked composed. Spargo was a threat all night. May went down but Petty stood up. Hibberd played his role. That third quarter. That rush of goals. Gawn playing like Dustin Martin. It was just, well, perfect. And never mind that our opponent happened to be the most arrogant, smug pack of [censored]s. That just tops it all off.12 points
