  1. Why not? They seem content to play half a quarter under one set of rules and half under another.

  2. Just a reminder to try to keep personal politics out of this. There are other venues online to vent about that. Posters should be warned that posts like this may be removed without warning. Multiple violations may result in removable from this website. Also understand that mods don't catch all these posts so please just don't post if it's just to bitch about one side of politics or the other. Save your vitriol for Collingwood abuse.

  3. To use a Melbourne analogy, waiting 6 months for the Pfizer jab over the AZ is like refusing, when the bushfire is coming, to evacuate in a Land Rover because you want to wait for a Range Rover.

  4. If people are looking at Melksham's stats last week they are looking in the wrong place. 10 d, 9 k and 4 m doesn't look great until they realise he played only 54% game time: barely played 2 quarters. I think he is carrying a foot injury perhaps connected to he one which kept him out for a while several years ago. Last week he enabled two goals in the first quarter with pin point passes, to keep us close to Adelaide. He barely played after the 1st quarter. He was far from our worst vs the crows - not even in the bottom 6 given his low game time. I'm not a Melksham but I can see that he plays a valuable role most weeks.

  5. Not sure what I disliked more about the 2020 season. Watching games under lockdown or the 16 minute quarters where clubs where struggling to bang on 45 points a game. Please don't bring this garbage back into the AFL.

  6. Shorter qtrs means less ads. The TV stations/AFL need every dollar they can get, so unless it's games every 4 days or so, they will resist this as hard as they can. I hated the short quarters and hope it doesn't happen.

  8. FWIW I’ve had my first vaccination of AZ. Felt crummy for one day, fine after that. The reluctance towards vaccinations is a slap in the face to countries that have copped it bad. Life will not get back to normal until most of the population gets vaccinated, simple as that.

  9. Christ on a stick what a total mess. Covid is a rude biatch. Doesn’t she know we are 9-1. Doesn’t she care? Must be a Collingwood supporter.

  10. I suspect the AFL's rationale here is that they are getting games played this weekend because it's possible. You don't know what is going to happen in the future so taking a bye this week runs the risk that a further game will need to be caught up in the future. Getting the round played is one fewer game that the AFL has to work out later.

  11. The other thing to remember is that we had restrictions went that happened. Connor broke restrictions. Marty hasn’t done anything wrong here. He’s just unlucky and it’s very hard to keep on top of all the exposure sites. New ones are getting added by the hour.

  16. Again, this started with a man in his 60s who it has been asserted had not had vaccine, despite being eligible. Given he caught it, transmiited AND got sick it would appear very likely this assertion is accurate Perhaps he was also a waiting for the 'good stuff'. If so that decision is has been huge factor in where we re right now. Everyone over 50 should get vaccinated. It is our civic duty. And when they make AV eligible for under 50s they should get vaccinated too. On that risk, there is risk with any vaccine options. So there is a chance someone waiting for Pfizer will have an adverse reation to it. Does anyone know the name of the flue vaccine they had this year? Besides the advice may well change to to recommend AV for under 50s, becuase now there there is COVID in the community the risk balance changes, meaning the risks of getting sick or dying from COVID far outweigh the infinitesimal risk of developing blood clots And the risk discussion is frankly bizarre anyway given the risks that are much more likely to result in injury or death people willingly take every single day without giving it any thought whatsoever. Just three driving related examples - peanuts who mindlessly tailgate, anyone distracted at all by their mobile phone when driving or driving with ANY alcohol in their system (ie under .05, eg .01).

  18. At least we're giving Weideman a crack at it. The next six weeks or so (depending on Covid) will tell the story...and soon to be out of contract. Interesting times. I still reckon that Mitch Brown is stiff not to get more games. Good grab, knows how to find space, contests, understands his role and kicks goals.

  23. To be fair at the time, he had the Pfizer I'm not sure the AZ had been approved by our authorities. Even if AZ had been approved it is worth noting that Albanese also had a Pfizer shott and has now had his second albanese-gets-his-second-pfizer I'm happy for our country's leaders to be vaccinated as early as possible. Btw, Morrison's wife, mother and mother-in-law have had the AZ. His daughters haven't been vaccinated as they are not age eligible. Balanced posting on such a critical subject would be useful.

  24. 9-1 10 Rounds played…..9 wins….. 36 points in the premiership bank. WTF???? (the same a last week) And now 2nd on the ladder. Firstly, an apology, usually I bang this out on Mondays but as it was a public holiday where I am I had a couple of other things I needed to do and yesterday I had a game of golf. Played like a dog. Managed to scramble 33 points without hitting too many good shots and leaving a lot of points on the greens with less than good putts. Bit like us on the weekend, thereabouts but not good enough. Hence, I am banging it out today instead. Damn, I found it frustrating to lose to Adelaide the way we did. Have to say no amount of “the umps got it wrong” from the AFL makes it any easier to accept. Hate it! Our defence was found out and may had a shocker against Walker and his murder of crows. Of all the people to have a bad day against??? The rest of the defence team were also out of sorts, we gave up the most points in any match so far this season. Adelaide also applied constant midfield pressure that paid off for them. I hope that our newfound maturity is reflected in the game next week. We need to learn from this loss. Still, as much as I was disappointed with the loss, Sitting 9-1 after the first 10 rounds is pretty damn pleasing. I would have ripped ya arm off taking that at any time before the season began. And so, to the Round 11 encounter with the Bulldog at Marvel on Friday night. Big match…. And that is an understatement. Whoever wins this goes a game clear at the top and builds that little bit of a mental edge over the other team. The Bulldogs have been cruising lately but have a couple of injuries that may take their edge off. We have a few problems of our own on the injury front but that may be on the improve. Salem looks likely to be back which will help in defence and will also give us additional drive from the back half. The facts: We are coming off an umpire error loss in Adelaide - Advantage the maggots They are coming off a light training run against the Saints witches hats. – Advantage them We are playing on at Marvel– Advantage them The odds are stacked against us. Problem areas of the game for us. Umps are a problem that we cannot do anything about. They are already responsible for effecting the results of 3 games so far this season. While the game itself ha the potential to be a classic, 1st vs. 2nd. There are individual contests within the game that will also be more than interesting. Who runs with Bont? Harmes? Who gets the job on Petracca and Oliver? There is going to be so much to watch. As good as the defence has been for 9 rounds, it looked to lose all structure on Saturday. As I said, May had a less than ordinary game and there looked to be a plan in place by Adelaide to bring the ball into the forward 50 low and hard. It worked. Last week the bulldogs had 15 of their 21 goals scored by 5 of their forwards. If our defenders are no better than last week we are done. And done by a lot. Salem back for Jetta should help settle the group a bit. One can only hope. Midfield improved their center clearances a bit and that will be needed to give us that initial drive to unsettle the Dogs. McCrea, Libba and Smith need to be controlled in this area. We can match them with Oliver and Petracca and last week Brayshaw snagged a good number of clearances as well. I see this area of the ground as a close arm wrestle that will determine the outcome of the game. We come up against the best midfield in the competition this week. It will be minus Treloar and that will be significant. Really looking forward to this contest. One area of the contest we might just have an advantage is on the wings. Looks like English might be back after a 4 week layoff to challenge Max. Good to see Max regaining a bit of form last week. We won the clearances last week and gave up 15 goals. How does that work? Now for the forwards……. The good; There was no good The bad; The goal tally from our KPFs The ugly; My mood after the game. Gee it must be tempting to go back to the initial setup we had at the beginning of the season that was forced upon us by injuries. There looked to be so much more room for the forwards to operate in. Last week it still looked crowded and the forwards were static with ordinary slow delivery. Not sure how you sort it out. I would still work this week around Tmac/Weid/ Fritsch setup with Jackson/Max working through there as required. Maybe best to leave all that to people that are wiser than I. Changes? Salem back for sure. The other thing I want to see is Sparrow get another run. I like the pressure he brings, and I think he will develop well over the next season or so. Bathwater Express is misfiring on a couple of cylinders and we missed out on the adding the twin overhead crow feathers to the aerial last week. Never mind, I will take 9-1 at this stage of the season. I am not one that will stop drinking the Kool-Aid at the first sign of stomach cramps or a bit of vomit in the mouth. I am in this all the way. Now for the prediction…. Head and heart in a big battle. Head says Dogs in a close one. Heart says “never in doubt!”. Have to go with the heart…… Dees by a couple of goals!

  27. There aren't many winners from all this, but there is luck associated with it all. We're missing a crowd at an away game, not a home game. That's some luck. We've already had a fair amount of MCG games (Essendon, for example, has already travelled four times, and now might have to play even more games interstate). That's some luck too.

  31. I don’t agree with this, in terms of hedging bets because we’ve been at our best when losing the clearances but providing immediate heat and pressure to the ball carrier. Libba feeds it out and that is where he does the damage, but it’s not as damaging as the players who are setting up entries by foot once it gets outside. Shut down Macrae and give him no room so even if he gets it every disposal is under pressure. Same with Bont and Daniel Just my opinion

  35. I get where you're coming from mate, and footy is definitely not high up on the list in terms of relative importance, but there was a lot of talk last year during the 'big' lockdown about how much it helped people having some footy to watch. Just the sense of normality, the comfort and the distraction. The mental health aspect of this lockdown is pretty huge IMO, even though it's a short one. If we can have footy on, in a COVID safe way, then I think it only benefits people.

  39. This is what you wrote: Apparently Scomo feels differently FD. Over 50 yet still went for Pfizer. Do as i say but don't do as i do! Hardly great leadership is it and might explain why there's a reluctance in the over 50s to take up AZ. How does one extra candle on the birthday cake apparently make you blood clot free risk free or substantially so anyway? Ridiculous call by this Govt and it's flakey leader. It only has itself and himself to blame. Stop blaming the masses.... https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.9news.com.au/article/000380d5-c386-428b-a234-5170af611307 https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.9news.com.au/article/d9114b7f-2bce-4204-9793-dcd109e67f11 Then the backflip on Sunday.... https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/two-million-pfizer-doses-a-week-from-october-enough-for-everyone-by-christmas-20210521-p57u25.html I was simply clarifying why Morrison and Albanese had Pfizer and that Morrison, his family and the Opposition were following the rules. Can't see how that falls into the Do as i say but don't do as i do category. My clarification was to state some facts and my 'political persuasion' should not be assumed. .

  41. Remember the discussion last year when Connor McKenna's situation caused our game Essendon to be postponed and a few posters wanted to blame Essendon? And some wanted us to be awarded the four points and to move on. This is what the wiser heads were thinking about when trying to quash those ideas.

  42. Someone earlier in this thread (or another perhaps) made a great point that BBs value isnt just his raw goals and stats. He draws the best defender and then also draws another to nearly every marking contest (and he's rarely outmarked) Both Frit and McDonald had career standout games with him in the side. None of that goes on his stat sheet

  43. Oh no, didn’t take it that way. But the comparison of fully-vaccinated Americans vs Australians really does serve to illustrate just how inept the government has been at both rolling the vaccine out, and getting the messaging right. And of course our ever-degrading media have been dreadful with their insatiable appetite for content. This blood-clot narrative is on them. I’m not suggesting blood-clots don’t occur (extremely infrequently) due to the vaccine, but when was the last time you saw a news story/article about clots relating to the contraceptive pill? You simply don’t, because it’s not “interesting” enough, even though the risk is significantly higher. I could go on about this, at times, pathetically apathetic country and it’s so-called “leadership”... Excuse my spleen. For a bunch of personal reasons, this particular lockdown has timed even worse than the other ones and I am fuming today. Better to try and stay away from comment boxes...

  44. I rate him and would gladly have him. When fit, he’s shown he can be damaging and is quite versatile. He’s played his best footy on ball and is more inside and contested than people think. He’s shown he can hit the scoreboard and break lines too. That said he’s not an answer for a permanent wing position IMO.
