Think of him as a James McDonald type more then anything. Coaches love him, will do a discipline job when asked, and will go out and give 110%. Has worked incredibly hard to get to AFL level due to a few rejections at TAC cup level. Knowing his parents well in Daryl and Prue Jordon, they will be extremely proud this Saturday. On ya Jimmy.17 points

Seriously. F&ck I hope he proves you wrong. I assume your opinion is based on a detailed view of the growth in his game over the last 3 years and not based on him playing second mid against the dogs first string midfield last week. Allegedly works his butt off. Allegedly team first. Allegedly plays his role. For every Martin and Cotchin you need your Broads, Caddy’s and McIntosh. Does not need to get a heap of ball just work hard and do the job set for him. Best of luck Jimmy J. Do what got you a game, work hard and play your role and hopefully its the start of a long career.13 points

"Still, a man hears what he wants to hear And disregards the rest" Simon's press conference was absolutely fine to me. He was smiling, upbeat and positive. From much the commentary here I was expecting a Rhyce Shaw 2020 performance.12 points

If posters are being this nasty and vicious towards Simon Goodwin before we've even played a game, one shudders to think what new level of vitriol they have in reserve if things don't go well this season.8 points

One of the many quirks of our wonderful English language is that one who is down may be described as being "flat as a tack" but a person who is clever can also be said to be as "sharp as a tack". What does that all mean? Well, it's a tack so there must be a point. I suppose it depends upon which end the tack you're referring to.7 points

Given we've been talking about our clearances here a bit, thought this was interesting: If the Demons are going to play finals - and they’re built for it, with the sixth-oldest and sixth-most experienced list in the AFL - they need to capitalise on their major strength. No club won a greater percentage of hitouts and hitouts-to-advantage last year, thanks to the brilliant Max Gawn, but they ranked sixth for clearance win percentage, 12th for clearance efficiency and 13th for points for clearances. They simply must hit the scoreboard from that source. One key stat that shows how well - or badly - your AFL team will go in 20217 points

We will be speaking with Melbourne Football Club CEO Gary Pert in the next day or 2 in the lead up to Round 1. I've pretty much put together the questions I want to ask but thought I would put it out there to the Demonland faithful in case I have missed anything. Yes I will be asking about our search for a home base. ? I will post links here to the interview once it is done.6 points

This is just your MFCSS talking - I expect him to provide a target and allow out excellent midfield a more reliable option than they have had. If you want to make it easier on yourself by having subterranean expectations go for it - but reality does not promise such a pathetic return.6 points

I can't believe it. Got my tickets and pumped for this game. Then just realized I have a family commitment that can't be changed at exactly the same time as the game starts. So won't even be able to watch the game live. So have to reframe the day and console myself with the inaugural: Binman Super Saturday Sporting extravaganza!!!! The day will involve: A lead in on the Friday night, watching a bit of footy, watching the Moonee Valley races, featuring the Group 1 William Reid Stakes and doing my form for the following day, which includes the Golden Slipper - always a great race to watch Saturday morning, finalising my selections and then watching the early races Complete media and all external communication blackout from 1:41pm (i'll listen to the build up) - note: of course i'll also avoid Demonland but i don't need to read it to know what will be in the game day thread Family commitment Watch the dees game 'as live' from about 4:30 Celebrating a win Then from 6:45 watching the dees women's team also beat Freo, but this in real time - and secure a finals berth Counting my money from the races Watching the replay of the dees men's team win against Freo6 points

Looked good against Richmond, struggled against the Dogs. I'd suggest he often starts at half forward and swaps with Petracca a fair bit or even Clarry to go do the midfield running whilst they rest deep forward. If we move the ball it brings his tank in to play more and whilst his disposal has been hit and miss I'd suggest there's a chance of some good kicking in there. Freo are super hard working and disciplined so his tank should suit, particularly at the G.5 points

No offence Melbourne fans reading this, this all the hallmarks of a mid-season coach firing. If May doesn't get up we should win it easily IMO. Looking at both forward lines it could end up the lowest score in AFL history. The Cairn's catastrophe was where we took Melbourne's last glimmer of finals hope last season and flushed it down the toilet. Max Gawn likely to do battle with the inexperienced Lloyd Meek. If Meek can just not get absolutely smashed by Gawn then we are in with a good chance. Gawn best on. Tabs will be double teamed by May and Lever all day. Lever seems to be made of the same brittle substance as Sturt. Unfortunately, I think Melbourne win this by 2-4 goals. Too many injuries and no forward line for us. I'll be very surprised if we kick 65 points. They also have no forward line at the moment only Mcdonald who looks very ordinary now days and Fritsch. The hype-train has us playing finals. If that's going to be the case, this game is a 'must win'. The biggest error the club made in the last 5 years was trading for Hogan instead of picking Ben King at the draft. It is highly likely this weekend's AFLW game between the same two clubs will have a bigger scoreline than Melb v Freo in Rd 1. I don't think that either team is going to do much damage in 2021 .... except to their supporters. Melbourne are trash! I hate to say it but If we lose to them we are in the back alley right alongside them! I think we should be good enough to beat Melbourne. Their pre-season has been awful and I don’t see any growth coming in that list from last year. We should win.4 points

Ugh, I'm up in arms with all the amateur psychoanalysts on here... If you seriously think you can judge someone from what you view in the false reality that is a press conference...consider your own expectations your own prejudices your own experiences of how you were 'coached' and how that informs what coaches should behave like (and understand that you and your experiences are not the rest of your cohorts, let alone the rest of the population) flip it on it's head. If Melbourne had made the 8 and met versions of your own expectations, you'd consider the bloke to be pretty relaxed considering the $hitstorm his personal life has been over the last year or so, whilst turning up to a high profile job...but just because we missed the 8...it MUST mean x, y, z... also...me earlier.... "just leave Goodwin alone...sob"4 points

We'll lose Jones, Jetta, Hibberd, Mitch Brown and Vandenberg at the end of the year due to retirement or delisting. These guys are pretty 31 years plus. It's not as telling that number will significantly drop at the end of the year.4 points

Melksham won't play. He hasn't even any match simulated games at VFL level. Hibberd only played 3 quarters in the VFL. I suspect he'll need a full game in the VFL first before he is considered. Not sure why you've put May, Oliver and Salem when they've all done a full pre season and played AFL games. Hardly underdone..4 points

Listening to the podcast I’d say Hibberd and Gus are almost a lock assuming no setbacks. Salem should be available it’s just a question of whether we’d like some match fitness into him first. Melksham shouldn’t come straight in even if fit, he had a poor 2020 and is coming behind with fitness. I know Gus and Gawn like to joke around but Majak as a round one bolter is a possibility (personally I’d be looking for a couple of strong performances first). Questions about where goals will come, for me I think we will need a spread of players on the board. We know Petracca’s more than capable, Fritsch can kick a few, and I’m praying to the footy gods that they give TMac the confidence to get back to his old self. 7+ goals from those three, Jackson and Gawn can bob up for a snag or two, and then we just need contributions from others around the ground. Here’s the important thing that I think somewhere along the lines they’ve forgotten: they need to back themselves. That goal by Oliver vs Tigers in the practice match is the exact thing I want to see, confidence to own the situation and nail the goal. It’s what made Petracca the player he was last season (hopefully into the future).4 points

Hardwick’s nervy as hell before he speaks to the media or players. Clearly he gets moody. He loses it in the box and I bet he’s burnt through some staff. But then he starts everything off positively. Always backs the system and their strengths and when he does roast the players he does it in a team way. The Tigers have just been so far ahead of the curve drafting speed, skill and hardness and then just drill aggressive footy (from a defensively sound base) it surely makes it easier. We’re trying to retrofit our team in 2020 to play like they have since 2017. But it’s certainly worth thinking about criticism of Goody like him not having a plan B. Richmond haven’t had a plan B since 2017 either and they’ve won 3 flags. Plan B is just double down on plan A because they know how good it is.3 points

Best wishes for a long and successful career in the red & blue JJ. If you are half as good as a previous #23 (Junior Mac), you will serve our Club well. ps. from the very limited bits I've seen of JJ, I can see a few similarities with Junior.3 points

We have two members of the Board who played at the highest level, one who also worked as an assistant coach. We have two ex AFL coaches, one of whom won a premiership and both of whom also have extensive experience as assistants. We have one of the highest-ranked assistant coaches, not to mention other members of the FD who played AFL or who have been working in the AFL for years. Yet at the centre of all this, our head coach is a "fraud"? Do you even think about what you write?3 points

The article is incorrect in one aspect. He was born on 20 December, 2000 according to the club’s pen pictures which makes him 20 years old - not 22.3 points

I think he has composure and can offer outside mid skills., it is something we need. Blood them early, get him understanding what it takes at the highest level. Good early call.3 points

Congratulations to J Jordon. But seriously.. Yuk!!! I’d love to be proven wrong.. But I just don’t think he offers anything.3 points

I feel like he could be a great find for us - he runs both ways, can play inside and outside, is a good kick and showed against the Dogs that he can spread from the contest. We don't need him to be a star - just to be able to complement the players we have in there already. Could he be the "moneyball player" that enables those around him to reach their potential? I hope so!3 points

Just checked the MCC website and they say that mcc members only need to scan in with their mcc card and visitors need to scan in with their mobile card. The ticket for the MCC member will be used to be ushered to their reserve seat by staff. My mobile ticket does not have a barcode as such but my visitors ticket does. I suggest you go to the MCC web site where all the regulations around entrance to the Members reserve are set out.3 points

We've been down this road before...and it got us nowhere. They're not at full strength, we're not at full strength. The cards will fall where they fall but if we're switched on I expect a win.3 points
