Merry Christmas to all on Demonland and to your families and loved ones from the bottom of my heart. Regardless of your beliefs, I wish everyone a safe and peaceful Christmas/New Year break. Hoping next year is a better one for all and for everyone no matter where in the world they are. Merry Christmas and a Happier New Year 2021 (even for all the Scrooges) ?17 points

....... and a huge thank you to Andy, the Mods and everyone else involved in providing us Demon 'tragics' with far and away the best fan site in the AFL. You deserve a premiership for your efforts.6 points

With all the NGA players taken this year, thought I'd do some digging on names mentioned in a previous Melbourne NGA article. Two names stand out as possible draft targets being. Andy Moniz-Wakefield and Tyrell Martin. Moniz-Wakefield is believe was under Melbournes Darwin zone which we no longer have so likely GC prospect. Made his NTFL debut this year and awarded their equivalent Rising Star award in his first game. Martin is allocated through our Central NT zone. Not a lot of information but found this article. Might be playing SANFL next year if I'm not mistaken. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=3006861696084360&id=1225879245117663 points

There will be covid outbreaks. Probably on the East Coast so a 'footy frenzy' may depend on how 'trigger-happy' state premiers are in closing borders. Right now they are very twitchy so it is likely we will see rescheduling of some sort. Hopefully, it is just location rather than wholesale change to the fixture. And, if there needs to be a hub it will be in Victoria so (selfishly) we can still get to see games. And while I'm talking of 2021; may you all enjoy this festive season, say goodbye to a horrid 2020 and look forward to good health and an exciting and successful year for our beloved Demons. ???3 points

Would be a shame if that turned out to be the case Gunna as it looks like a good fixture for us. As long as our international borders are secure in the short to medium term I think we'll be ok. They pretty much had the covid situation under control domestically until this issue with the airline crew driver contracting it. So much for NSW being the gold standard in covid prevention as they were also responsible for letting the german mother and daughter board a local flight to Melbourne undetected.3 points

Sorry BD not disrespecting LJ & Kossie, two real guns in the making, it's just that Rivers was a late 2nd round pick and a bit of a surprise packet. We are indeed fortunate to have picked up three genuine footballers on 2019. JT and team take a bow.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!3 points

The AFL is likely to give melbourne a major boost by giving them to right to recruit from all the area between Victoria and Tasmania. A massive greatly undeveloped area.3 points

Fairly certain he will be a bottom ager next year and draft eligible at the 2022 draft.2 points

I think Pickett will very much be competing for his spot by Laurie, Bowey as well as Viney, Jones, Hunt and ANB. There are other positions Laurie and Bowie may be looking at but if Hibberd among other HBF's comes out firing then FP must be up for grabs. I believe the footy club has to look at Kozzie Picket's stats and tell him the honeymoons over.2 points

I feel that despite his foot and agility issues we are better off for having Tom on the List, he can provide back up in the back line forward line and ruck and who knows he may have to earn his keep in all three roles going into 2021 and beyond. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!2 points

You seem to let yourself out an awful lot Vaggy. I have just one question. Who keeps letting you back in??2 points

Funny FF no mention of MFC ever being on the horizon of Darwin?? How quickly they forget.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!2 points

Is it? Rivers is a lock, Pickett is too given his position. Jackson is too talented not to play (and his output justified getting games last year). If Laurie & Bowey kick and compete as advertised it’s hard to think they won’t be upgrades on the AVB, ANB & Jones’ of the world.2 points

The club finances are precarious given the uncertainty of Covid so I don’t want discounts or special offers for the members although I understand the sentiment behind your suggestion. The best way this club can repay the loyalty of supporters is to start winning games of footy, deliver consistent performances and start beating some of the top teams. Fulfill the potential we can all see. Do that and the members will be more than happy.2 points

Some very game selectors here putting our new recruits straight into the A team sight unseen. At the very least, see how they go in a practice/pre-season game before labelling them as walk up starters in our best 22. On another note......Why do people say "intel" when they mean "information"? Sheer ignorance I am guessing as the words are not interchangeable.2 points

No JL doesn't but what he brings is an organised game plan of a decades success snd with young players who stick to it. ( rather like in Cairns and with Freo foing the same thing) against our mo game plan and disjointed vs wind approach which resulted in disaster. They don't (Swans) build up fir us they know if they can get good use of theball their plan will outshine our haphazard and inconsistent game plan and give success, year after year, in fact from 2006 which nearly every year they have made Finsls snd we have once!!!! It's not rocket science BBP.2 points

Government interest rates have been 0 since near the top of November. I still think bank interest rates will go down further, but it's certainly a good time to borrow providing you can service it. Interest rates should never go up again, but you're right. They'll probably go up in 5 years time if we're still bungling about with the same economics.2 points

Have all the 2021 outfits been printed backwards...? (I'll let myself out!)2 points

It’s not unusual for key position forwards to bulk up. I’ve heard commentators advising Weiderman to hit the gym and get bigger. The extra bulk helps when crashing the pack, outbodying opponents or protecting the drop zone. I think TMac’s problems started with his foot injury. If the foot is ok then he might be able to get back to a reasonable level of performance. Fingers crossed.2 points

I think it all depends on keeping rates of infection low as i don't think a vaccine roll-out will be sufficiently progressed to make a difference for this year. If there's a major outbreak, particularly in Melbourne, then it'll be hubs and a revised fixture I reckon.2 points

E I’d like to see an intraclub match between those two teams. It may very well lead to a rethink!2 points

Like some of this - TMac on a wing might suit his running stamina, but he does telegraph his disposals too obviously. Pop Harmes to the FPkt to provide a double-sided prong on leads, with Fritta; then with Jackson, to HFFlk in a utility, mobile role. Petty may be good if fit at CHB; if not, Tomlinson is adaptable.2 points

We never had Darwin as a zone, it was always seen as too good at developing players to be a zone...except as a sweet gift for the Gold Coast Banana Splits. Our Zone is Alice Springs, I think. Home zone of Liam Jurrah. Can’t think of another player developed out of there???2 points

Compensations? Don’t be crazy. You’re forgetting our place in this world. This is the dees we’re taking about not the hawks or the pies.2 points

That Rivers for AA prediction in the Foxsports article is very left field. If the authors don’t have a soft spot for Melbourne then clearly young Trent gained more attention from the neutrals last year than I thought.1 point

There's no doubt twitter has a massive problem with censorship. You brought up Eric Coomer earlier in the thread, but it's the cases you don't hear about that are a far bigger problem. Take Charles Gomez (yep - the same Gomez that was arrested for assaulting a police officer in the Minneapolis riots earlier this year). He's a a far-left ex-democrat with strong socialist ties that sits on the Election Administration of Georgia (a supposedly impartial commission). Remember those 4000 'missing votes' (from Republican counties - the missing votes always are) that magically turned up Georgia the other day when Republican observers were finally granted access? There are screenshots of leaked emails going around that not only show Gomez buried them, but it's just the tip of the iceberg. There are literally thousands more votes out there (doubtless long since destroyed by now) that will never see the light of day. Twitter and Facebook have both censored all posts sharing the screenshots of the emails though. They've magically disappeared. Probably because they never existed and Charles Gomez is a fictional character I made up 2 minutes ago. You were probably suspicious reading this post Wrecker, because you know from my posting history that I don't subscribe to conspiracy theories. If you'd read this on twitter, or was shared by a mate or whatever, you wouldn't have bothered to fact check, because it fits with your underlying political narrative. Same goes on the other side of the political spectrum, obviously. We live in a post-truth world, but fact-checking does not equate to censorship. Anyway, sorry to derail the thread. Carry on.1 point

Why do people put Melksham in the side ? Just does not warrant it. I would have Petty or tmac ahead of Tomlinson as well.1 point

Geez will West Coast just completely [censored] off in regards to everything please?! All I ever read in relation to WA kids is “West Coast are keen to lure him back”. The powers that be at Freo must just sit there playing Twister every day at head office.1 point

And the AFL will tick it off, because we all know how close Darwin is to GC ?1 point

The NGA's have 2 parts: Indigenous and Multicultural. Indigenous talent was previously not assigned in Darwin. Multicultural talent in Darwin was split between the 5 teams with zones in other parts of NT. I'm not sure if that multicultural split still remains with the clubs and how it works if players are both Indigenous and Multicultural. What a farce.1 point

Suggest you read WJ’s post #4 above together with the NTAFL website he quoted. This shows that we definitely had the Darwin zone.1 point
-
I don’t think that’s right. Here’s an article from the NTAFL site which identifies Andy Moniz-Wakefield who plays for Darwin's Nightcliff club as being a "Melbourne - Darwin Region Multicultural Selection" and two other NT players Tyrell Martin and Ariki Lowe as AFL Next Generation Academy players. UNDER 16 THUNDER BEGIN NATIONAL CAMPAIGN This suggests that the club has put work into young talented players in its (now former) Academy zone. If the AFL has awarded this area to Gold Coast, it is reasonable to ask what happens to the players who were already part of our Academy and what compensation is Melbourne going to receive for the loss of this zone which has produced several AFL champions - the Riolis, Michael Long etc.?1 point
