Goldstein won the hit outs, but I thought Jacko did more around the ground. The question is not: will he make it as a ruck? The question should be: what else can he do to maximise his value? Personally I think we shouldn’t try to make him in to Grundy but rather aim for something like Goodes. Mid/forward/ruck utility. I’d have him spending time on the wing as well as forward and ruck this year.

Respect the list and good on you for having a go.. No way Petracca is 5th most important player, he is number 1, then Oliver, then May, then Gawn then Ben Brown. But we all see it differently.

Agreed. It seems GCS and Geelong have a cosy thing happening with the AFL. In 2018 the FA 'secret herbs and spices' gave pick 19 to Geelong for Motlop to enable the trade to GCS so Gary Ablett could get 'Home'. Eyebrows were raised over that little sequence. Then last year there was the outrageous Live pick swap of: Geelong 2019 pick 27 for GCS's 2021 pick 11 and its 2019 pick 64. The AFL conveniently turned a blind eye to that highway robbery. Raised eyebrows over that one was an understatement. Now we have the latest swap where Geelong get #27 for a 2021, 3rd round pick (tied to mfc) that is likely to be pick 40-50 next year. It seems anything goes to help GCS but Geelong seem to be the beneficiary each time (friends in high (AFL) places, perhaps). Yes, I know that is cynical but...

He's calling this after one (shortened) year where we have Max as our main ruckman so Jacko played mostly as a relief ruck? He also must have been watching something very different to me, as a 19 year old first year player he held his own at ruck contests which is about the most you could expect of someone at that age in that position. Around the ground he looks like he glides through the air, to me he doesn't play like a forward, he plays more like a midfielder/winger. Incidentally, Derwayne is also one of the most annoying voices involved in footy. I would not be disappointed if Fox Footy announce said he would not be commentating for them next year.

I always thought Maxy Gawn would make it but LJ showed much more in his first year than Maxy did for about 5 seasons.

What I did find interesting was the mention of Conor Stone and Luke Pedlar as possible first round bolters. Don't know much about Pedlar but Stone sounds like an interesting "explosive" player that knows how to hit the score board playing mainly as a forward flanker in 2019. Apparently is versatile with clubs seeing him as having potential in the back half and through the middle. Wonder if we're one of the clubs keen. If not, that's two more players into the first round unexpectedly that could see a slider drift out to us. Macrae was said to go early but Cal for the second time has mentioned that if he doesn't go early he could slide a bit into the later parts of the first round. Also talk of Tanner Bruhn more unlikely than likely to go top 10. Will he slide to our picks? Not sure he's the type of player we're after but on talent he would almost be too good to pass up if that did somehow happen.

Dwayne Russell. “Built like Tarzan and played like Jane”. He was projected himself as a superstar but was a bit of a dud. Can’t believe his opinion gets any credit. Jackson will be one of the most exciting players to watch in the next few years. He’s raw but you can see his energy. Perhaps the most athletic ruckman since Natanui/Grundy with his follow up work. My only knock on Jackson is “he is from WA” and the “go home” offers on big $$$ from the Eagles and Freo will come sooner rather than later.

Don't forget about all those pesky hospitals and medical centre's who use student nurses, radiologists, physio's etc. Along with all the tech companies that also have student placements at them. The MFC came out to clarify their position on this and explain about the Pathway program but there are those that refuse to acknowledge that.

For those who do not understand what an Internship is and who the stakeholders are. MFC advert was not offering an internship, simply a volunteer arrangement with no link to an academic institute and no PATHWAY. If a little research and leg work had been done with an academic institute and a Work placement document executed all would have been in order. ABC Internships Internships at the ABC provide tertiary students who needing to complete a period of practical experience as part of their course requirements. Internships are an unpaid period of work experience arranged between the ABC, the educational institution and the student.

That trade just should not be ticked off by the AFL!

Luci, if you listen to the Glen Bartlett podcast (1/07/2020) he states that the phase 1 feasibility study is complete (which identified approx 4 possible option sites within the Melbourne Sporting Precinct) and that now the Phase 2 feasibility study is underway which focuses on the preferred option site within the Melbourne Sporting Precinct. He stated that while COVID has set the program back somewhat, it was now full steam ahead with finalising the designs for the preferred site. The MSP base will house all the football departments as well as a social club and training facilities ( training oval will not be MCG size). Casey will be a second facility with MCG size oval and indoor training facilities. He suggested that based on overseas examples, most major clubs had a city base and a second home some distance away. This is the model we have followed. Perhaps a more positive outlook now than what the 2019 annual report was able to outline at the time.

James Jordon is still only 19. I had great hopes of him this year but like so many kids and fringe players it was virtually impossible to put their names forward. Hopefully next year!!!

Interesting to compare the leg muscle definition of ANB with Baker's in similar running poses. And comparatively, Petracca has a six pack while Oliver's body looks a bit more like a white wine cask.

We paid far too much for Lever and his reputation (based on his 2017 season) exceeds his on field performance. Frost at Hawthorn was just as good as Lever this year. However, Lever's ability to position himself and take a clutch mark in close games is impressive and important.

Lever would be well down the pecking order. Yet to do much at mfc. Injury free 2020. 3rd year at the club. No excuses.

I have a good feeling about James should be a chance to crack it in the big league as for Aaron the way he has come back from 2 knee reco's and for a third try at making it is a credit to him. Lets hope that good luck is with him this time.

Didn't expect Jordan to be demoted. In all honesty I feel he's a chance to have a break out year next year if he were given a chance on the other wing. Still he's on the list, so has every chance!

I was intrigued by this myself the other day and went through a fair few phantom drafts to determine where players would be bid on, the points that would be required and the picks that would be eaten up to equal the bid. Unfortunately, by my calculations it wasn't as favorable as i thought it would be for our later picks. You mention that the doggies will have to use pick 26 on JUH which will bring in our picks 28 and 50. However, I don't think you have taken into account that the doggies will essentially just move their pick 26 up to pick 1-3. Meaning, that our pick 28 would stay where it is based on that factor alone as all the other picks from the bid on wards would be shunted back a position until 27 which would remain the same. The good part (that you mentioned already) is that the Doggies later picks in this bid would also be used up, meaning that 31, 41 and 42 would likely get used up too. The sad part is that there are a large amount of academy kids who are predicted to be taken in the 2nd and 3rd rounds too... The gains that we make up from the Doggies picks etc are not as good as once again our late pick gets pushed back. I was going to type up my notes, but its not 100% accurate with the trades that have gone on since trade week, but essentially I had worked out our picks to likely fall this way 18+4=22 19+4=23 28+6-1=33 (realistically it will be 34 now that the doggies have traded pick 26) 50+11-16=45 So really we lose out except for pick 50 which comes in 5 places :(

Here’s hoping

Not sure how anyone could be negative about this trade. Brown is the most productive forward we've had since Neitz, and we essentially traded him in for a pick in the 30s. We basically traded Preuss (a 25 year old ruckman played 10 games) for Brown (a 27 year old key forward played 130 games for 287 goals). Even if Brown goes at 50% of his peak output, he'd still be our leading goal kicker! On paper, it's possibly the best trade the club has done this century. F*cking stoked we pulled it off!
