  1. Oscar discussed as one of the 10 best DFA's available: best-delisted-free-agents "A victim of Melbourne’s aggressive recruiting in defence. Just 24 and has a stack of potential if he can put it all together. Managed 60 games from 2016-18 but just 19 since with the arrivals of Steven May and Jake Lever. Again, looks a great option for a side like the Western Bulldogs, who are looking to add more defensive support. However a side like Carlton or even Gold Coast could be just as appropriate. He could play a role at the Suns like that of Rory Thompson, who continues to battle injury in his bid to return to the elite level". Feeling more optimistic for him. I'm a bit surprised Sydney aren't mentioned. Hope he gets another gig.

  4. Clinton called Trump on the night of the election to concede and gave her concession speech by noon the next day. She was obviously devastated but, full credit to her, she took her medicine and the transition was smooth. Trump lost in 2020 because he spent his whole time re-running the 2016 Clinton election, even though Biden is an old, white, male centrist who is an extremely non-threatening candidate. Biden's nothingness as a candidate, in effect, made the election a referendum on Trump and his record, which did not suit him well because he has made a lot of enemies outside his base. Gore actually did concede .... twice! Once early on when the networks called it, which he then had to take back, and then after the court ruling. The second time he promised Bush that he wouldn't take it back again. But that was, obviously, a very different election and much, much, much closer. The Floridian 'hanging chad' and the election coming down to a court ruling based on different counting procedures for them in different counties which produced different results. And that election came down to a single state with a 300 vote margin! The Bush/Gore cases were fought over something very specific (how to treat the ballots imperfectly punched by he voting machines in different counties) which would alter the outcome of the election. The problem here is that Trump's cases aren't based on anything, nor (even if they were) anywhere near large enough to overturn the election results, which would require him to overcome deficits of over a hundred thousand votes across multiple states to win. He's even trying to challenge Michigan, which he lost by 150,000 votes in itself! His lack of concession still (after the result have been very clear for weeks) is a bit sad and it's doing a great deal of damage to the rest of the GOP.

  5. Are there though? There's not a shred of supporting evidence from any objective source that I've come across. The "obvious anomalies" claims have only come from alt-right 'news' sources, Trump's lawyers and twitter. Of course these claims will be investigated, but there's not a legal basis for any of it, nor any actual evidence other than wild conspiracy theories. If you have any links (other than Breitbart, Sky News, etc), I'd be interested to see them.

  6. Clarry, Two time B & F and All Australian! Ah, what has Darcy Parish achieved???? Silence is deafening Clarry eats Parish every time. Of course though we could have got it wrong and drafted Parish instead and whilst he is a reasonably good player, I'm Happy with our excellent choice!

  7. Totally agree with the comment that Omac has a stack of potential and is every chance to get picked up by another club and establish himself there. Players get delisted all the time and some get another shot at AFL. Take Mitch Brown. A key position player, taken at pick 15 by Geelong and delisted by them at the same age as Omac is now (24). Went to the VFL for a season before being drafted by the bombers. Being a big Vivaldi fan, he played four seasons with Essendon, before they too delisted him. And then ironically we drafted him - and have just extended his contract for another season. The classic journeyman. I reckon Omac was pretty stiff to come out of contract when he did and unlucky to be delisted by us. Obviously Lever and May being recruited made things tough (though it is fair to say their recruitment was related to the fact omac is a serviceable player not a star), but I actually think recruiting Ben Brown was a big factor. With Brown in, we suddenly have a surfeit of forwards - Brown x 2, TMac, Jackson and Weeds. Which means that our best player not to play last season, Petty will almost certainly go back (which will be terrific for us - huge potential as player, an excellent mark, good one on one and will slot into the true full back role perfectly.). Add in Tomlinson, who is too slow for the position we recruited him for (what's that about?) and the possibility Tmac might also go back (ye gads) and we suddenly also have a surfeit of key defenders. In order of my ratings, contenders next season for key big defensive positions are: May, Lever, Petty, Tomlinson and Tmac (who remarkably we couldn't trade, almost wins a Coleman in 2018 and can't find a suitor two years later). No need for a sixth key defender. So goodbye Omac. That's footy. Particularly at the bottom end of the pay grade.

  8. Two things... 1. Biden was a safe choice to combat Trump as he's more centre than most Democrats 2. Harris will be as much the president as Biden will be, and she is an absolute gun. P.S. - The Trump legal team reminds me of a bad Soviet circus from the 1960s.

  9. To me, I agree absolutely with Lockhardt and Chandler ( also agree Re Jordon/Bedford whom you mentioned). I do think Mitch Brown is reasonable key position depth/insurance based on his quite serviceable performances throughout the year. I guess he is a fairly short term backup too given his age. Probably on pretty modest coin too, so ticks that box for us as well.

  10. Jesus I saw this thread had popped up and was on 4 pages already, I was sure that there was going to be an article at the top and some substantial information. Instead it’s barely a gut feeling! If we’re successful next year then I doubt Trac is going anywhere, and even if we’re mediocre he actually strikes me as someone that genuinely just loves playing with his teammates. And the pies may have a natural power about them but the way they’ve treated Treloar may well cost them in the future.

  11. Here's my updated phantom draft from last week, with round 3 as well now. I've still got us taking the same players, as well as Winder in the 3rd round. I'll have a short writeup of our picks below phantom draft. I'll be making more updates to it as it gets closer to the draft. ROUND ONE 1. Adelaide – Logan MacDonald (WA) – key forward 2. Western Bulldogs (NGA) – Jamarra Ugle-Hagain (VIC) – key forward 3. North Melbourne – Elijah Hollands (VIC) – balanced midfielder/general forward 4. Sydney – Denver Grainger-Barrass (WA) – key defender 5. Hawthorn – Riley Thilthorpe (SA) – key forward/ruck 6. Gold coast – Will Phillips (VIC) – inside midfielder 7. Essendon – Tanner Bruhn (VIC) – inside midfielder 8. Sydney (NGA) – Braeden Campbell (NSW) – balanced midfielder/small forward 9. Essendon – Archie Perkins (VIC) – balanced midfielder/general forward 10. Essendon – Zac Reid (VIC) – key defender 11. Port Adelaide (NGA) – Lachie Jones (SA) – general defender 12. Collingwood – Brayden Cook (SA) – outside midfielder/general forward 18. Collingwood (NGA) – Reef McInnes (VIC) – inside midfielder/general forward 19. GWS – Caleb Poulter (SA) – balanced midfielder/general forward 20. Richmond – Tom Powell (SA) – inside midfielder 21. Melbourne – Jack Carroll (WA) – balanced midfielder/general defender 22. Brisbane (NGA) – Blake Coleman (QL) – small forward 23. Sydney (NGA) – Errol Gulden (NSW) – small forward/balanced midfielder 24. Melbourne – Bailey Laurie (VIC) – small forward/balanced midfielder 25. Hawthorn (NGA) – Connor Downie (VIC) – outside midfielder/general defender 26. GWS – Jake Bowey (VIC) – small forward/outside midfielder 27. St Kilda – Zane Trew (WA) – inside midfielder ROUND TWO 28. Adelaide – Zavier Maher (VIC) – inside midfielder 29. Adelaide – Zac Dumensy (SA) – outside midfielder/general defender 30. Gold coast – PASS 31. Fremantle (NGA) – Brandon Walker (WA) – general defender 32. Melbourne – Kaine Baldwin (SA) – key forward 33. GWS – Eddie Ford (VIC) – general forward/inside midfielder 34. North Melbourne – Sam Berry (VIC) – inside midfielder 35. Fremantle (NGA) – Joel Western (WA) – small forward 36. Essendon (NGA) – Cody Brand (VIC) – key defender 37. Richmond – Jackson Callow (TAS) – key forward 38. Gold coast – PASS 39. Carlton – Corey Durdin (SA) – small forward 40. North Melbourne – Jack Ginnivan (VIC) – small forward 41. Adelaide (NGA) – Tariek Newchurch (SA) – small forward ROUND THREE 42. Hawthorn – Max Heath (VIC) - ruck 43. Hawthorn – Luke Edwards (SA) – general defender/balanced midfielder 44. Carlton – Henry Walsh (VIC) - ruck 45. Hawthorn – Connor Stone (VIC) – general forward 46. Richmond (F/S) – Maurice Rioli Jnr (NT) – small forward 47. Melbourne – Isiah Winder (WA) – small forward/utility 48. Geelong – Shannon Neale (WA) - ruck 49. GWS - PASS 50. Brisbane – Liam Kolar (VIC) – key forward/wing 51. Western Bulldogs – Charlie Lazarro (VIC) – small forward/inside midfielder 52. Port Adelaide – Chris Walker (WA) – medium forward Pick 21 - Jack Carroll Carroll is a classy 187cm inside/outside midfielder or half back who has been likened to Hugh McCluggage in the way he plays. It's probably 50/50 whether he gets to our first pick but I'm fairly confident the guys in the picks above suit their teams needs. Nevertheless Carroll would be an incredible get at our first pick who has pace (3.018 20m sprint), has good agility (8.67 seconds agility test), can jump (88cm vertical leap), and possess' a lethal left foot kick. He also is a very courageous player who isn't afraid to use his good overhead marking to go back with the flight of the ball, or crash open a pack despite his light frame of 76kg. He also doesn't turn 18 until December so there is plenty of room for development. Next year he'd be a fair chance to slot in on a half back flank in round 1 next to his ex East Fremantle teammate Rivers (also played footy with Jacko too), which his footy smarts, ball use, and physical tools should allow him to play early on. Pick 24 - Bailey Laurie I have us looking for a small forward with our second bid where we'd bid on Coleman from Brisbane and Gulden from Sydney but eventually ending up with 179cm high half forward Bailey Laurie who has been likened to Toby Greene or Zak Butters in the way he plays. He isn't overly explosive for a small forward but Laurie carves up the opposition with ball use, agility, smarts, and decision making. Laurie has the stamina (6:24 2km time trial) to work high up the ground where he always makes the best decision going inside 50, whether that's hitting up a lead or going for goal himself. Laurie has a tendency of knowing where the ball is going to drop in marking contests, and is a keen tackler when the ball is on the ground where he uses his work rate to harass defenders. Laurie likely would've spent a lot of time in the midfield this year which he is prolific by hand and foot and has great smarts around stoppages. There is a very high chance that Laurie will be available at one of our first 2 picks, and potentially at our second round pick. Will be another challenger for a round 1 spot where he will be competing with Spargo for that second small forward spot. Pick 32 - Kaine Baldwin This may be a little higher than some people expect but I think it's highly unlikely Baldwin be available at our next pick. On talent Baldwin is top 10 in this year draft which 2 years ago he was said to be the best key forward in this draft, however since he has done 2 ACL's on the same knee so there is obvious concerns about how his body will hold up. As a player Baldwin is a 193cm CHF who plays like Jesse Hogan (prime Hogan), but I liken him to Mitch Georgiadies who was in a similar situation to him at last years draft. Baldwin's best asset is his contested marking where he is very crafty 1v1 and can take towering packs marks. He also has an enormous engine which he uses at CHF to work really high up the ground where he gets involved in a lot of link up play and is a great kick going inside 50. He's very clean at ground level and was very quick off the mark pre-injury. Baldwin will likely go somewhere in the second round due to their being not much depth for key position players in this draft. He is the definition of a high risk/high reward player who will be given time to get his body right and develop which he can then look to break into the team when guys like Ben Brown, Tom MacDonald, and Max Gawn (Jackson moving into the ruck) get older. Pick 47 - Isiah Winder I have us biding on Rioli Jnr but then taking the 180cm Isiah Winder who plays like Sydney Stack. Winder who is touted to go in the third round could be one of the biggest steals of the draft which he has senior experience for Peel Thunder and boasts an enormous amount of X-Factor. Winder finished top 5 in every single test at the WA Combine (92cm vertical jump, 2.873 seconds 20m sprint, 8.18 seconds agility test) and is one of the best kicks in this years draft which he accurately weights his passes to his targets whether that is a spear or a chip pass. Winder can also play all around the ground either as a small/medium forward or defender, or in the midfield as well. Winder has all the talent of a first rounder but is projected to go later due to his lack of defensive work/appearing to become disinterested when the ball isn't near him at times. Winder would be a big round 1 bolter next year which I think he would be best suited to step in as a small/medium defender where he'd provide excellent ball use and speed off half back. Overall With our 4 picks we've added 3 small/medium runners with good pace and excellent ball use which is something we desperately need, as well as a long term key forward. All three of Carroll, Laurie, and Winder would be ready to play round 1 and could have an immediate impact. Funnily enough all three of those players can play as inside midfielders, saying that though if they were to play as an inside midfielder long term they would add something very different to what we currently have in our mix. Saying that Baldwin could well be the best player of the lot, and ultimately be a top 5 player from this draft if he can get back to his best form from his 2 ACL's surgeries

  12. So Richmond had 19 under 184cm on their list and by my count 11 in the Premiership side and you're upset because we have 12 on the list in total? Viney and Langdon are midfielders. Sparrow and Baker are their back ups. 2 inside, 2 outside. That's fine. Salem will have competition from Jetta, Lockhart and Chandler (played as a defender) for what could easily be 2 spots down back. It might only be 1 of them in the team as we go with a taller backline but 4 guys for 2 spots is reasonable. Same thing up forward, 2 spots, 4 guys. Kozzie, Spargo, Bedford, ANB. I'm more worried if they are good enough than if they are tall enough.

  13. Thanks mate, IMO I think MacDonald is the best player in the open pool which is why I have Adelaide taking him, I think it would be a mistake to not go best available at pick 1. I have a few doubts over Thilthorpe's pace/mobility as a key forward, I think he'll be much better but he kinda reminds me of Peter Wright a bit. I had GWS bidding on McInnes, sorry I probably should've made it more obvious, but agree I think on draft night I think they'll try move one of their first rounders and their future first for one of Essendon's picks to grab Cox or Reid. I think it's highly likely a McInnes bid comes before one of their first rounders so they'll be looking to move one of them. I think Baldwin's upside is worth it and he wouldn't have any pressure to play for us in the next few years, he'd be given time to develop. He was the best player at the under 16 champs and was seen as the best key position player in the pool (better than MacDonald, Thilthorpe, Grainger-Barrass, etc.) There is a slight chance that Baldwin or Winder doesn't get drafted and could slide through to the rookie draft. I think we might try move something like 19+28 for North's pick 11 to grab Macrae.

  19. Are you just blindly ignoring the 250,000 Covid deaths in his own country? Or does it not matter if people die on US soil from a disease he could control with lockdowns and mask use? By the way, if 9-11 happened under Trump, he would have done a hell of a lot worse than Bush ever did.

  20. There are some decent mature age players in the state leagues that I would have liked we take a punt on. Very safe play extending all but understandable given covid and limited opportunities to develop this year. Hopefully Lockhart can cement his spot in the 22. He showed decent form last year before mysteriously falling out of favor. Other than the addition of Brown (huge get) we’re heading into next year with the same group. I think it’s enough for Top 4 as long as the coaching/game play improves and Burgess keeps us fit.

When he’s fit he’s as good as Thilthorpe and Jones.” - SA under-18 coach Tony Bamford A player with 2 ACLs before he turns 18 is something of a risk but the upside appears enormous. Who dares wins!

  24. In all seriousness they asked for 1 priority pick last year. The AFL said year, and gave them a package that included: - Pick 2 (2019) - Pick 20 (2019) - Pick 11 (2020) - traded for Matt Sharp - Pick 19 (2021) - possibly stripped at a later date Free listing of academy players Budarick (2019) - 2nd or 3rd rounder Rosas (2019) - 2nd or 3rd rounder Alex Davies - likely first round pick Joel Jeffery - likely pick 10-30 Brodie Lake - late round pick It's the most ridiculous and massive draft haul that all but guarantees success. And yes, the AFL has gifted them 49 list spots because they've given them all these extra players for free, they have to have the list spots to keep them. It's disgusting.

  25. Our draft picks are 18, 19, 28 and 50 (89 used to promote Lockhart and he is counted as a draftee pick by the AFL). After the latest contract signings we have 35 senior players (incl Lockhart) We then have a max of 3 vacant spots going into the draft. This means we cannot use pick 50 so it will need to be packaged eg with 28 and swapped for a low 20's pick. Or some other combo depending on how many players we want to draft. It was reported that mfc will take 3 draftees. If it is assumed Lockhart is one of those 3 draftees we aren't planning to use pick 28 at the draft (and will keep a list spot vacant) and it becomes 'surplus'. Some possibilities: package 19 (or 18), 28 and 50 for a mid low teen pick (altho there will be a lot of competition for mid-teen picks). if we can't do that convert 28 and 50 to a 2021 future pick So we aren't finished with pick swaps, yet!

  26. So, essentially - * 3 picks in the national draft * 1 rookie selection and * if KK is put on the long term injury list then the club can list a player as a Pre-Season Supplemental Selection. This is for players who can be added to our summer training squad from 6 January, 2021.

  29. Very disappointed, although given we are talking about list pozzies 33-37, it is hardly crucial. What annoys me, and I've said this before, is that we have a high number of sub 6-footers (less than 184cm) on our list - 12 in all. Obviously some small guys are necessary and very deserving - Richmond had nine of their premiership 22 under 6 feet. But which of Rioli, Castagna, Bolton, Short and Edwards are regarded as slow or without weapons. Then there's workaholics like Lambert, Baker and Graham and their bull in Prestia. Of our 12, only Viney, Langdon, Kossie and Salem are walk-up starts and I'd add Lockhart to that (although the coach wouldn't). That's seven little guys battling for spots and four of them - Bedford, Chandler, Spargo and ANB - are battling for a small forward spot that isn't even a pre-requisite spot given Kossie has nailed down the main one. As I said, it's not a biggie in the overall scheme of things, but one of that four should have been delisted. Imagine the outcry if we have five ruckmen on our list battling for one spot!

  30. Vinyl never went away and is now fast becoming a very big selling point in this age of digital music sourcing... people want something tactile again. About a year ago I helped at my friends' record shop that deals probably 90% vinyl (the rest being a few CDs, posters, music books and videos), while they went to Canada for a month, and business was quite brisk. As a mark of it's popularity, it has been supported by music industry doyens such as Glen A Baker and Stuart Coupe who have voluntarily attended in store promotions and quite regularly do their record shopping there. Hopefully this link works... a few photos that I took on one such occasion: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2248161025219168

  31. The Cedric Cox noted above pursuit suggests we are using a list spot for a DFA leaving 2 spots available after Lockhart's promotion. This strengths my hunch we will take 2 new draftees and we will convert our 4 picks (18, 19, 28 and 50) into the best two we can get. Otherwise 28 and 50 are wasted.

  32. Sorry but who is the best small defender on our list in view of Jets lack of pace? Most Dees fans would have Lockhart by a country mile but our Coach mysteriously dropped him in the last 5/6 games. Why ?? And in true to his form refused to look at him again despite disastrous form by most in Cairns.

  33. That late goal multiple assist in Perth, where young Bedford followed up his kick into the forward 50, gained possession of the loose ball, with big boy McGovern steaming in, was full of merit. The No. 12 than stepped away with almost casual aplomb, leaving a perplexed McGovern in his dust. Kossie received a well directed handball to score his second goal on debut. His second call up in Cairns, amid the flotsam of the truncated fast finishing final rounds of the season. Was as forgettable as the whole team performance. Down the plug hole, as the goodship SS Simon (and crew) foundered in the tropical maelstrom at Cazaly stadium. As 2020 recedes far into the rear view mirror universe. All is forgiven! May Toby move on up in season 2021, as he and the other young rookies deserve to be retained, as their development was very much afflicted by covidus footballus interuptus XXXX.

  34. understand where you are coming from but i think you are being too pessimistic saying "incentivising attack isn't enough. And measures to try to reduce congestion aren't enough". I think they can work but not straight away and the current changes for 2021 aren't enough but they are a start and importantly an admission by the afl of the problem. and remember it's not necessary to eliminate congestion , just minimise it enough to restore a better balance of defense vs offense. I hate the notion of turning players into defensive robots and inhibiting the natural football creative and attacking instincts of players

  35. Still have my turntable from 1981 although finding a replacement stylus is becoming harder. Found a joint in Sydney that still stocks them. Agree on the cost of vinyl these days. My daughter has become a vinyl fan in recent years- she's lucky to find an album under 50 bucks ! She's also a fan of a lot of "my" generations music to the point that the sounds coming from her room sound a lot like mine in 1977. She's also liberated a fair few from her aunties who were divesting themselves of their record collections. For the past few years I've had a weekly catch-up with a few mates. Armed with guitars & suchlike we set about playing (slaughtering) a range of songs from classic to obscure. During restrictions we've substituted this with a Zoom meeting and decided that seeing we couldn't play, we'd do album reviews. While that has been great fun, we all agree that despite the accessibility advantages of Spotify, the experience of listening to an album was better when you had the record sleeve to peruse as you listened. Especially if it contained the lyrics.

  36. ‘From next season’. Sounds to me like there’s every possibility Burgo goes either next October or possibly in March once he’s got us through the preseason. If it’s a compassionate release for family reasons and we’ve had time to find a replacement I’m completely fine with that.

  37. Our two options to get rid of 1 of our picks so that we satisfy list spots is to trade up or trade for a future pick. To trade up these are options (I didn't consider anything higher than Essendon since they turned down Brisbane's two first rounders for one of their first rounders in the trade period): * Adelaide pick 9: Adelaide already have 5 picks in the first 2 rounds, plus some academy boys, so it's highly unlikely they'd want to bring in more picks * GWS multiple first rounders: The Giants have 5 picks in the first 2 rounds too, I highly doubt they will be looking for more picks * North Melbourne pick 11: this would be our best candidate as they have recently delisted a ton of players and are looking to rebuild, they currently have 4 picks in the first 2 rounds. We could try offer one first and our second but it would probably take our two firsts to get it done. * Fremantle pick 12: Freo is in a pretty comfortable position to take their first rounder and two academy boys, don't see why they would budge from that as a later pick might get stalled up by an academy bid anyway. I think Macrae would definitely be there at North's pick, as would Jack Carroll. Others who might be there would be Perkins, Chapman, and Henry. Our other options is to trade one of our picks for a future pick, come draft night I think Collingwood would be a good chance to trade their future first for one of our first rounders if there's someone on the board at our pick that they really rate.

  38. Thanks LH. Was kind of hoping we would draft 3 kids as a scatter gun approach might net someone who has slipped through this year. If what you say is true, they may also have their eyes on someone in the early teens and be prepared to swap 18 and 19 to get him knowing that at 28 we are still likely to land a player we would consider at 19. I think as others have stated, depending on how it plays out on draft night, a number of picks between 19 and 28 may end up being used as points for academy / father sons so there may not be a huge difference between 19 and 28 in the end.

  39. Check your arithmetic! It is deespicable! The metric equivalent to the old imperial 6 foot is 182.88 cm rounds off to 183 cm in whole numbers. That may explain the inordinate number of the 'vertically challenged' on our list!

  40. So do we use 18, 19 and 33 or do we trade 18 and 19 for a higher pick (ie 8-13) and use 33 and 50. Tend to think pick 18 and 19 would be a good move. A few could slip in this draft and having two in a row gives a good chance of one being the right choice. Our picks in the 30's are generally ok and more for a back up.

  46. I'd be amazed if Freo would drop 7 places in the first round to move up for 4 in the 2nd and add a very speculative pick 50. I get the points work, but that doesn't really come into play if they are using all the picks to draft, and not to match an Academy pick. 18, 19 and 50 for 11 and 32 is more likely needed to get them to bite, which I think is too much for us. I like the idea of using one of our first rounder to buy back into next years first round. Either Syd or Collingwood, if we can manage it. But an end of first and late 3rd round isn't likely to do it for us. Deanox's option a few posts above may be our best bet.

  47. THE TASMANIAN TIGER by Whispering Jack I first saw Ben Brown on a cold Tuesday night in May, 2013 playing for the Werribee Tigers against Queanbeyan in a televised Foxtel Cup game before a sparse crowd at Etihad Stadium. His teammate and former Demon Jordan Gysberts was the star of the side’s 85-point belting of the hapless ACT club but the then 20 year old, 200cm Brown was also a stand out. Earlier that year, the athletic big man had left his native Tasmania in an effort to make the grade after being overlooked in three drafts. The man with the mop of unruly hair, the bearing of a high jumper and the number 50 on his back, read the play well out of defence that night and went forward to kick three goals. When his team was knocked out in a low scoring semi final by East Fremantle a month or so later, Brown was named the side’s best player. The Tasmanian Tiger was destined for bigger things — North Melbourne picked him with its third selection in the AFL Draft later in the year and he was soon impressing the football world with his high marking and distinctive run up for goal. After breaking into the side in mid 2014, Brown made the full forward position his home and he won the goal kicking at North Melbourne four times (2016-9), booting more than 60 goals and featuring in Coleman Medal calculations in each of the last three of those seasons. The journalism student was also an impressive performer in the media and starred in an edition of Foxtel’s Open Mike turning the tables on compere Mike Sheahan. A knee injury curtailed his output this year and, after 130 games and 287 goals with North, he was traded to Melbourne earlier this month. Brown has great football bloodlines. His grandfather Jim Manson was a top line player who won the best and fairest at Glenorchy and is Tasmanian Hall of Famer. Brown’s uncle James Manson played in Collingwood’s 1990 premiership team. The young Ben Brown represented his state in the Tassie Mariners Under 18 team and then played with Glenorchy before moving across Bass Strait to play with Werribee. The Demons are hoping that Brown will have an immediate impact by straightening up its forward line which has lacked potency since the departure of Jesse Hogan at the end of 2018. Melbourne GM of Football Josh Mahoney said of him last week, “What we’re excited about with Ben Brown is not only what he can bring, but what he can do to help the development of Sam Weideman and Luke Jackson.” The Tasmanian has worn the number 50 guernsey throughout his years in Melbourne and he’s put his hand up for the number again at his new club. Demon fans will be hoping that it won’t be too long before they can put the pandemic behind them and return to watch the bearer of the distinctive number 50 rise above a pack in the forward line, pluck the Sherrin out of the air with his vice-like grip and welcome the return of football to the MCG.

  48. "The most important player we have." This is arguably the silliest comment ever posted in Demonland.
