The worst thing that has happened to this club in the past decade is the departure of Jackson. He saved this club from being a complete joke. I wish he had stayed longer.19 points

As a woman it is sad that you attack another woman who is just doing her job. You may not like how she goes about it which is your right but the vitriol toward her is unnecessary and not very becoming. Criticise her for sure but there is a more appropriate way to do so. I feel I can speak for the few females who post on this site. The guys are very fair and supportive. Occasionally someone has a cheap shot at me at being a female or makes some gender related remark but always one of the more considered guys steps in to my defence and takes them to task, which I appreciate. It would be easy to say they shouldn't take cheap shots at me but they take cheap shots at each other; its just the way it works. All I can say is give respect and respect is returned.17 points

Well I don't want us to get smashed. But another week of mind melting selections. Not really so much as who comes in. More from a perspective about decisions in the last two games. Brown in this week for preuss, having done nothing wrong to be dropped and obviously much better option than preuss in the wet. On preuss what the hell was him not doing any centre square rucking all about? Played forward for the whole game, in the wet of course struggles (in the dry he'd struggle too coz he ain't no forward) and then gets dropped for his troubles. Great man management. Not. Jetta comes in this week when blind Freddy knew we needed a small defender against freo, wet or dry. And on small defenders no lockhart last week or this week, suggesting he is out of favour. Except for the fact that he is an emergency this week? Spargo gets dropped in a must win game having been average against the swans, but ok before that. Ok. Replaced with a kid. Who does little. But he is a kid. And gets dropped for his troubles. Great man management. Not. And like harmes, spargo comes back in after one week, having had no opportunity in the seconds to address the issues he was dropped for. So 20 changes in four games. And today I watch goodwin's presser and when asked about selections this week he says 'there will be some changes but we want to build some cohesion in our team.' Sheesh10 points

Hindsight is a wonderfull thing. Many may not agree but the Roos appointment may not have been such a great move. We were so keen to get him that he came totally on his terms, the big one being his expiry date. Because of this I suspect some decisions were rushed. Dew was the man he wanted but it turned out we couldn't get him. Time was running short and we went for Goodwin, someone that Roos didn't know. Loved Jackson but I think he had tunnel vision in the pursuit of Roos and it maybe costing us now. Of course this has then been compounded by Bartletts decision to extend the Goodwin contract.9 points

Agreed. An impassioned plea by one G.Lyon on SEN: “This is a guy who is not as clean and pure but I talk often about knowing what you are going to get with players which is the number one quality for me. “You know what you are going to get with him every time. It’s heart, it’s soul, it’s commitment, it’s body on the line, it’s ferocious competitiveness, it’s a refusal to concede. “I don’t know what’s going through his mind but I know he’s appreciated, loved, wanted and respected and I’d be shattered if he left from a Melbourne point of view,” he added. “I’ve thought long and hard about it, whether there is some sameness to this midfield, and there is some truth to that but rather than just get rid of some, try and add to it without losing someone of the quality of Jack. Jnr, I'm with you and Garry. A Club just doesn't let players like Jack go. It just doesn't.8 points

Shocking team selections. ANB and Melksham stay in after having 0 influence on the scoreboard and also defensive pressure. Hibbered missing after ankle soreness. There was whispers before the game last week he would potentially miss due to his ankle. They play him on Walter's and he kicks 3 goals and wins them the game. We had a fit Lockhart and Jetta ready to go. Hope we get absolutely smashed.6 points

Wrong Smith mate. They're talking about Steven Smith, former president of the MCC.6 points

If this is our decision it would be a mistake of the highest order. I understand he can be a bit polarising and he has some limitations but he a bull that needs to be used better. He is in the mould of Selwood but with less polish. If he can add some calmness to his game and be more measured with his decision making he could be one of the outstanding players in the comp These players are not a dime a dozen, they are incredibly rare. And while his shortcomings are well known to us here with better coaching and direction he could explode. Maybe they have already tried that, maybe he doesn't listen but I wouldn't be happy with him leaving until we explored every last avenue to help him become a better player. Eveyr player has limitations and we have to work out how to work with what Viney has, not what he doesn't have. I am of the view the he and Oliver don't work effectively together as they are both 'see ball get ball' players that get in theirs and others way often. I think we have a coaching problem with our midfield and this needs to be fixed asap. We have gone from being #1 in clearances to being an also ran. That to me is all on the coaching panel and the confusion of how we are trying to play.6 points

Thanks. As I suspected it's complete garbage. FWIW, if we know TMac's issues are fitness/injury, I'm all for re-starting him at FF in 2021. Getting him back to his 2018 level will change us more than any other single player could IMO.6 points

Also like the look of Prauge in race 8 tomorrow... Been flying in track work for all reports.5 points

Dropping Preuss and Bedford is the right call. Replacing Preuss with Brown rather than TMac is justifiable but questionable. Have to query where TMac is at. Replacing Bedford with Spargo is fair enough, it's not like Hannan was in any better form when he was in the side. I love Neville and am glad to see him back but there is no reasonable way he should be in front of Lockhart based on 2020 output. It doesn't make sense for us to be naming Lockhart as an emergency if he's injured or unfit. I do not understand the Lockhart omission and continue to disagree with it.5 points

How the hell does ANB get a game. It is a joke of a side. They have made 8 changes and not many sides win when making 8 changes but GWS will put that to the sword on saturday. Pile up your fridge and get ready for the Goodwin thread.5 points

Regardless of what u think about Caro she does seem to have good contacts and generally on the mark with her info which is the disturbing in regards to our club.5 points

Pretty tough to sack a Coach with 2 years left on a contract, after the most crazy season in AFL/VFL history and where his club was given the worst fixture in the Competition.5 points

I have an idea. Why not pick a team as close as possible to the one that represented Melbourne the last time we played at the Gabba? It was against Collingwood and we beat them by 56 points. This was the team:- MELBOURNE FB Michael Hibberd Steven May Jay Lockhart HB Christian Salem Jake Lever Nathan Jones C Ed Langdon Clayton Oliver Adam Tomlinson HF Jake Melksham Tom McDonald Bayley Fritsch FF Christian Petracca Sam Weideman Kysaiah Pickett FOL Braydon Preuss Angus Brayshaw Jack Viney I/C James Harmes Charlie Spargo Tom Sparrow Aaron vandenBerg EMG Mitch Brown Mitch Hannan Jayden Hunt Joel Smith Only three players - Jones, Brayshaw and Harmes are unavailable through injury and I would have Max Gawn in the side instead of Braydon Preuss. The three to add would be Brown, Hannan and Rivers. That makes my changes for this week:- IN Brown Hannan Lockhart T McDonald Spargo Sparrow OUT Baker Bedford Hunt Neal-Bullen Preuss Smith It looks better to me on paper than the team we sent out against the Dockers. Let’s see how it goes on grass.5 points

Whilst people are entitled to make comments, I do not feel some of the comments made here provide any positive for MFC and its injured players. They are not pieces of meat as some people intimate. Too often the news of a serious injury is treated as " big benefit to the Club"or "this will affect our trading" So it might be a time to reflect on the tone of some comments. Angus is a positive player for the Club and deserves to be treated as such.5 points

Change doesn’t suit a lot of people and I’m no exception however, at face value, much of the tweaks and turns from Gil and Hocking have done close to zero in my view to improve the spectacle. The bloke’s a full blown megalomaniac.5 points

We wouldn’t get the same price now, not even close, and would be lumbered with a venue which is a drain on cash (running, maintenance costs etc. but no income due to covid). The cash from the sale is banked and provides a buffer so we are not reliant on the AFL to prop us up and therefore beholden to them. An inspired decision as it turned out.4 points

Smith and ANB given games makes my blood boil. Jetta should have played last week in the wet conditions. Selection is a joke and has been all season.4 points

Don't buy that at all. He's been listed as the emergency multiple weeks in a row. He needs to be played.4 points

Mate he's just signed a 7 year deal. Do you want the club to be paying half for the next 6 years... ?♂️ Him being dropped is no big deal. He'll be back to form again. Congilio is a brilliant character and he'll know he needs to win his spot back.4 points

God I’m sick of this [censored]. We are back to square one again after trying to build a good club via Jackson and Roos. if Goodwin is there next season possibly say goodbye to more players than just Viney, members will leave in droves based on this seasons performance, possibly sponsors and say hello to bottom 4 finish and another wasted season. FMD this club really knows how to [censored] it supporters off. If Goodwin is there next season say goodbye to my kids supporting this rabble of a club. I will always support the club but that’s because I am a [censored] stupid [censored] who thinks one day it will turn around.4 points

They've run it like a little fiefdom for years and no-one has challenged them and Pert let it continue by not getting someone outside to do last year's FD review. So no wonder they were surprised. Its about bl. . dy time, I say.4 points

Look, totally, this is how the media works in this country. Not saying it's right, but it constantly picks and chooses who to shine the light on and who to leave alone. Doesn't mean this particular light isn't warranted.4 points
-
Oh, don't get me wrong. I completely agree with the idea that they are responsible for the shortcomings of the FD, but for micro operations, I don't think we can blame them at that level. But it could become part of an equation that they have to answer for. I think there should be a blow torch on the club as to why there was no external review done of the FD last year. This is something I remain strong on and I really don't see why Mahoney was allowed to review his own department's operations. Sure, he should have some input into the review, but it needed to be an external party. Mahoney had a massive conflict interest, with his position tied to the success of the FD and equally its failures and shortcomings.4 points

It was a great move. We were a VFL club in an AFL competition with no money, no credibility, no nothing. We had to get him, or someone of his stature, at any cost. More power to him; without that appointment we wouldn't have a club now.4 points
-
There’s very little strength shown at the very top of the club as shown by allowing the situation whereby we were the club to play Sydney and Freo within 4 days up in Cairns just 5 days after playing in Alice Springs and being one of only two clubs not to have a bye during several weeks of football frenzy. Eddie would have gone down kicking and screaming rather than allow his club to hit the wall and miss a finals series that way.4 points

Extending his contract on the basis of ONE good year was idiotic. Maybe after 3 succesful seasons ok. Also crazy to give a solid player like Harmes a 5 year deal.4 points

Watch him get multiple premierships at Geelong and become a great footballer. Nearly all of them do under the cats system! Really don't want to lose him. Has all the attributes to be a great footy player but needs development. He is not to blame for all our current woes at MFC. He tries his guts out every week. Even if he is a little one dimensional at times, i would take a team of Vineys, imagine them all crashing in...Heart and sole players you really don't want to give up too easily.4 points

West Coasts on-field leadership got them over the line last night. Half their team out injured, down with 7 minutes to go, top 4 on the line. Naitanui, Gaff, Hurn, Sheperd, Darling, Kennedy all stood up in key moments and dragged them to victory. Good clubs have leadership all across the ground, and you look at those names it's leaders on each line. It's exactly what we're missing - leadership across the club. Board, coaches, players. We brought Lever and May across for their leadership as much as their playing ability, but on-field leadership outside the backline is seriously lacking. The forward line lacks decent players, let alone leaders capable of standing up, inspiring, and directing others. Until we fix our leadership issues, it's irrelevant if we make finals or not.4 points

The club needs to take a deep breath with selections, stop out smarting themselves and pick a best 22 on paper. That means: No Wagners, Bedfords, Bakers or ANB's. They are not good enough to take us anywhere. No Preuss if Gawn is in the side. I thought Goodwin and Co get paid enough to realise that this hasn't worked in the 5 or 6 times they've played together. This is entry level selection that a 12 year old could see. Get rid of Joel Smith. We have a 1-4 record when he's in the side and our defence doesn't seem to gel when he's in the side. Play T Mac who is a professional goal kicker in a team that's crying out for one. Play Lockhart or Jetta. We have been absolutely destroyed by small forwards this year. Play Harmes if he's available and give him a big job.4 points

this is spot on. everyone is quick to bash them both and call for their heads and refer to the stats but how many games did cyril or charlie cameron get 15+ disposals, A: not many. these two young lads are absolutely passing the eye test better than anyone else we've tried in their spots over the last two years.4 points

I hope Jack leaves on his own, because that's what is best for our list. If he's strong-armed out though, I worry about the damage that could do to what little team culture we have right now3 points
-
So if we win our last two games, we would need one of: - Bulldogs losing to one of Hawks or Freo - Collingwood losing to both Suns and Port - Saints losing to GWS None of these looks highly likely but at the same time, any are possible. In fact, the longest odds would probably be on us winning both our games.3 points

Great pressure goal by Kennedy in the last quarter. Can't help but like him. Honest no bull****e old fashioned full forward- should get more accolades than he does.3 points
-
Jack Viney leaving helps us, not hinders for mine. Gus plays in the guts more - who is much more creative than Viney's limited disposal skills - and we get likely first rounder in return. I've also never really warmed to Jack's "do what I do" leadership. I honestly don't think it's a bad thing that he leaves.3 points

Jeez Goodwin has been unlucky The Flying V off the back was lauded as innovative etc then 6, 6,6 He goes and recruits Burgess and now shortened quarters are on the horizon as a mainstay. ....I only have one song in my head3 points
