  1. I'd prefer the post-draft experience where I get to berate them for their decisions with the benefit of hindsight.

  2. Feels weird playing a game this weekend. Usually we play once every 3-6 months.

  3. Just watched On Utube our match v GWS the last round before the finals in 2018. Although I was at that match, I hadn’t realised just how clever was Spargo, both by hand and foot setting up a number of goals . Lost his way last year, but having watched this I believe we should persevere with hiM

  5. I would be shocked if he is dropped. i highly recommend the zoom sessions the club is running at the moment. Fantastic intiaitive from the club. I have only missed one so far. The only go for 30 mins but they have been super interesting and informative. The zoom format and having members only really seems to creat an open and transparent vibe that is relay refreshing compared to the sound bite media pressers. Anyway Ben Matthews said on Tuesday that Brayshaw was the clear stand out in the intra club game.

  6. People are really whining about travelling to a neutral venue to play a winless team? I guess they'd rather play Freo at the MCG with no crowd, and have an extra away game later in the year. All it means is that we will have a run of games at the MCG later in the season, possibly against the big Victorian teams, and hopefully in front of crowds. If so, there is a fair chance that we get some prime time coverage if we win some games in the meantime.

  7. Just donated, I would normally spent more than this going to games in a season. Add I am hopelessly rusted on to the MFC. Can we please win some games or disband. One of the two please!

  8. If Harley plays in the Rd6 game against the Dockers at Metricon Stadium, would that be the first time a player has played , his first game in his new colours against his old Club at his original Draft Club's Home Ground? Thoughts?

  13. Club wants to Raise $5mill Win games, wherever and against anyone and you have a chance to raise that money ? Play like last year....Not a chance.

  14. I've donated in the past but can't afford more than a few dollars now due to job losses in the family. I hope others in more fortunate positions can help the club out.

  15. We should've kept Frost. End of story. The reason we let him go is because he was going to play at Casey at the expense of May and Lever being in the side- was the accepted consensus. That's a poor reason as he's not far off May and every bit as good as Lever as an AFL footballer. I'm surprised his shut down job on Ben Brown in round 23 last year didn't trigger the minds of the MFC brains trust that he should have been a priority signing. He's been outstanding for Hawthorn in their 3 games. Probably because that mob has a far better coach and a far better list management.

  16. I can only suggest that when they reviewed that game and the way we fell away in the second half, they decided we aren't in a position to carry a player who isn't 100% match fit.

  17. From that extended bench I hope we take in Lockhart, Pickett, Brayshaw, Jetta. Smith should play forward or warm the bench.

  18. Yes, he confirmed Smith would remain in the backline. Said they like his versatility, athleticism and closing speed. Asked about him flying for balls he should have stayed down on, mahoney said he got a bit too excited. Maybe they should give him a mogadon right before the cat's game. Or if the music he listening to is bit too amped make him listen to Brian Eno's classic album Ambient 1/Music for airports instead

  19. There are two big differences this year in the way we understand how our players are tracking. Firstly, we get virtually no training reports from Demonlanders. While our crew are not impartial and don't always agree with each other, they are more "honest" in their assessments than any club reports on training. Secondly, there is no seconds competition on which to measure a player's performance. Accordingly, any player might be pushing for selection and we wouldn't know it.

  22. This sums us up perfectly in my opinion. I’m sure a large number of DemonLanders would agree, at least to a certain degree: Demons are a bull at a gate type of team with players like Oliver, Viney & Brayshaw in the middle. They’ve brought in width with Langdon & Tomlinson, yet still butcher the ball going forward and run forward of the ball and get exposed the other way. If they put it together they can blow us away, yet they’re very inconsistent and poorly coached. They’re definitely a mood team.

  24. Fulfilling 4 family memberships on top of my MCC membership given my wife has lost her job, is more than enough as far as I’m concerned. Hope they get a strong response however, from those that can afford it.

  25. Because he played an intraclub match and that was as many minutes as was allocated. People forget his is still 'recovering' and building capacity. A very minor chuckle in the continuing saga that is people's observations on this forum. Sorry @Diamond_Jim, he is potentially one of the biggest game breakers we have...it is ASTUTE rehab practice to do this.

  26. he's not a genuine small forward, or a small defender for that matter. he needs to strengthen up but also get fit enough for a half fwd/mid role where he can push up around the contest and use his ball skills and smart decision making to best affect. although he's small he has shown previously he can play at the level and he's still young enough to have the necessary improvements in his game. at times I felt for him last year as he was pretty much the only one selected in the side to apply pressure in our forward half, which is an impossible job to do on your own. he had a shocker in R1, we will have a better idea of where he is at by the end of the year. but at this stage i'd rather we offload the Wagner, Baker and Chandler types before him. the problem for Spargo is we already have a few of those HF/mid types on the list. but Jones looks well past it and will retire this year, and Bennell is still yet to show his body can back up from week to week let alone year to year. same goes for Vanders with his injury concerns. Dunkley hasn't really had much of a crack yet but can play a similar role to Spargo, and maybe Jordon can as well, so it could all come down to which of those young guys is showing the most by the end of the year that will stay on the list.

  27. I'm not a huge fan, but there's no doubt he's a better player than what he showed most of last year and in Round 1 this year (that was an all time shocker). If he can get back to his best, there's a spot on the list for him, but whether that happens or not remains to be seen.

  31. I'd assumed he played with the 2s to get a run in the starting midfield. I thought he played in the 1s in the second half but may be wrong.

  32. All reports suggest the intraclub was played at a strong intensity. The club may have always known that Bennell was going to need to take a week off from time to time to ensure he doesn't get overloaded. See above. I do not understand how this is an issue.

  36. Brown kicked 2.3 and had 17 touches. He shut himself down with his inaccuracy and poor disposal (41% DE).

  37. And two additional reasons. One, he wanted too much coin. Two (and related to the first reason), as well as he can play in any given match there always the risk he will cost his team a game because of the combination of his poor kicking and poor decision making. And that is just as likely to be in a final, perhaps more so given pressure exacerbates poor technique and poor decision making. Frost ball will get you at some stage.

  40. Playing Freo with some crowd on the Gold Coast depending on how many Qld Dee fans get there will be good for the team plus they get to play in nice warmish conditions with no dew. Should assist in show casing our skills !!!

  42. Completely different players and roles. Being short doesn't automatically make you a crumbing forward - that's not what Spargo was recruited for, and he'll never will be that type of player. At his best, he's a very clever link man across half forward - he makes good decisions, has neat skills and provides good defensive pressure. His problem is the same as half our list - the gulf between his best and his worst is enormous. I'm yet to be convinced he's a long-term player for us, but I've seen enough to suggest he's worth persisting with.

  43. Swings and roundabouts. St Kilda has had the worst free-to-air TV exposure during the same period. Travis Auld from the AFL explained on SEN this morning that the early start allows Freo to return to Perth before midnight the same day which is important for future scheduling as the 14 day quarantine period would have gone an extra day if they arrived after midnight.

  44. Demonland logic entry #344: There are no crowds currently allowed in Victoria. There may be crowds allowed in Victoria later in the season. We play a chunk of away games now and are likely to have more home games later in the season. Ergo . . . ridiculous disgrace we have to forever play away AFL hates us St Kilda something lovechild Gil!!!!

  45. This is just dumb luck Freo are up there, we have to play them as we aren't going to travel to Perth, so they probably just figured get us up there and get it out of the way. I don't think there's much more to it than that.

  47. Why bring in Brown for Hannan just so Harry Taylor has someone to pick up. Your playing into what Geelong want. Why not make Taylor pickup Hannan/Bennell etc which if delivery is right is a massive match up in our way. or with Stanley injured and if we go in with only 1 tall I wouldn't be surprised if they put Blicvas in the ruck to exploit Gawns run .
