  1. I reckon he will be a favourite player by around, say, round 6. That said, no one can compete for my 6 year old’s son’s affection - it was initially Bernie Vince and now it is the Trac. He is the youngest ever member of this club. Signed him up as a 20 week foetus, and the club accepted his application. Not necessarily fraudulent, but plainly desperate. It was during the Neeld years, They were desperate at the time, and I took advantage of it. I’m super proud of this fact. It’s almost worthy of a documentary (even though it’d probably be really boring). God bless us all, eh. We’re top 4 this year.

  2. I don't know anything about him as a bloke, though from the handful of interviews i've seen seems a pretty bright young man But as player he will be super important for us and will make an immediate impact for the club A best 22 lock who will play the wing in every game and play a key role linking the back and front halves. Super fit and whilst his offensive transition will get lots of deserved attention his defensive running might well make even more of an impact as even when we had most of our players fit and firing in 2018 defensive running was not a strength. Another important factor is his recruitment (and Tomlinsons) means we won't need to play players like Brayshaw on the wing who are better utilised elsewhere. And to top off the package, by all accounts seems a dedicated and professional AFL player who trains hard and looks after himself. A really terrific recruitment decision by both the MFC and the Demon Army. Well played.

  9. Patriots fan since getting #73 John Hannah Jersey in 78, so I have had a great run in my lifetime. Would like to see the Chiefs win. When you look at the 49ers last season whilst the win loss ratio looks bad, they lost a lot of close games and didn't have Jimmy G for a lot of the year. So whilst they ended up with the second worst record they IMO were better than a lot of sides and suffered from playing in a strong division having to play the Seahawks and Rams twice. Ive spoken before about getting lucky in the AFL and bottoming out in the right draft year like the Hawks when they got Roughie and Buddy, well the niners certainly got lucky with the Cardinals wanting a QB and leaving Bosa at pick 2. I think the niners will defensively be two strong so think you'll be happy Monday lunchtime

  10. Predicting top 5 in our BnF next year. I really like him as a player and reckon he’s still underrated in the wider afl community. On output he’s very very similar to Brad Hill, but doesn’t get spoken about in the same way. The fact he’s still young and we got him for a second rounder will prove to be a big drafting success story for us. He’s going to own the MCG wing for years to come!

  11. This is an early request to tomorrow's track watchers from you're Melbourne brother. Players of interest will be: Kossie who didn't train with the group last Monday and seemed to be having shots at goal with the rehab group in media of the camp to date. We need some information. Is Melk running yet? Boxing workout last week. Is Oscar Baker in the main group yet. He was hoping to be so. What was Dunkley doing? Dubbed the "invisible man" by some he was truly invisible on Monday. Any progress reports on Hannan would be welcome. Thanks for any input you can provide.

  13. I was worried about Max playing in the game for fear of him getting injured. Not sure how relieved I am that injury is preventing him from playing in that game though.

  16. My father didn’t play sport but went to Bill Mitchell who cured a back problem. He said that Mitchell identified the issue before he walked into his rooms as he had watched him through the window as he was approaching from outside. Swore by him. That said, there must be plenty of doctors and physios etc these days who know what needs to be done to get Max across the line in good shape and in good time.

  21. This kid really has the full package. You can see why he was recruited even if he output isn't there quite yet. He has one of the most perfect kicking styles I've seen. He's got impeccable judgement marking at the peak of the flight of the ball. Has great speed and athleticism for his size. I'm looking forward to him bringing it to games and cementing his place this year. He's probably the player under the most pressure to perform this year. A lot of list management has been based around him working out. Personally I've got faith it'll happen this year. Not much point thinking otherwise.

  23. I’m not sure if many follow American football, but I’m a 49ers fan and the last 5 seasons before this one have been shockers, pretty much sitting last or close to it. Last year, out of 32 teams they had the equal 2nd worst win-loss record, the second worst defence, and a bottom 25% offence. Their turnaround this year has been staggering, especially the defence which are now feared. Here’s hoping for a good result tomorrow, and a good omen for the AFL team that finished second last in 2019.

  24. Huge Niners fan. Sat front row in the end zone for the Panthers game this year. The noise was amazing, particularly the Bosa interception. Winning team. Met Montana by chance in a breakfast house in San Carlos in 86. He gave me a few minutes which was fantastic. That sealed it for me as a Niner. Was at Candlestick Park for Steve Young's first game. He is my shirt of choice. Pretty pumped about Monday. Go Niners

  25. There's no real winner out of this. Maybe on paper and business decisions there is but in the game of life where most of us play there isn't. It's terrible news to hear Jesse is struggling and I hope like hell he can get through this along with his injury issues and get back to building a footy career or follow whatever he wants to do in life. I don't make a habit of cheering for ex players but I really hope this one works out.

  26. According to this article the 49ers are the "away" team and will wear white strip. They rotate the home team between conferences each year and this year the Chief's conference are the nominated "home" team.

  27. That was a mistake shutting down the old Neeld puts heat on Demons thread Nasher. It was fascinating to be able to review how members responded to Neeld's early comments. It also stands as a warning to pretty much everyone who contributes to this site to be a bit more careful about how we respond and what we find convincing. It was doubly interesting to see some of those who are generally only too quick to criticise fall for Neeld's hard man talk. And impressive to see a couple of posters who suggested caution. I am going to cut everyone who fell for Neeld's PR some slack, however, because they were reading his comments via the press. What might look impressive in black and white on the page could have come across differently if delivered face to face, and that I suspect is where things ran off the rails. Hard messages must be delivered at times, but they should be accompanied by care for the person who is copping it.

  29. There are no 2nds any more: https://vfl.com.au/developmentleague/ " With no Development League in 2018, the club structure for those eight clubs affected will move to one similar to that currently used by clubs such as Collingwood, Essendon, Geelong, Footscray, North Ballarat and Richmond, where players not selected at VFL level will play local football. 30. Bill Mitchell had rooms in Ivanhoe in 1969. I was a 17 yo.Dad took me there.Bill took one look and said " here's a boy with a bad back, lay on the table,"and with one touch,I felt a movement and it was fixed.Turna out I had a twisted muscle. He couldn't charge because he wasn't registered or licenced or whatever but you were told the donation cost would be such and such.

  31. Roos will be judged on his coaching successes rather than his TV conversations......If the networks want to pay him for his opinion, then good luck to him. Still remains as one of the most revered coaches of the modern era & his contribution to the MFC was significant.

  32. Not from Maroochydore but I believe there was a report going around somewhere that Kossie had been lightly concussed at training a little over a week ago. If that’s accurate, he will only being doing light work whilst up there.

  34. This conversation hasn’t been very helpful in letting us get to know our sponsored player. Yes, DeeArmy is sponsoring a player this season so if you see us pushing the fundraising button you may know why! At the moment we’re in the dark. We want to know more about our boy. What are his strengths and where do you think he’ll fit into our team?

  38. The why not us speech was before the Queens birthday game in 2018 wasn’t it? I’d argue we dropped off for 4-5 weeks, not because of lack of effort but from a worsening of structures due to an overhyped all in to get the ball mentality. It surprises me that supporters continually harp on about players not putting in consistent effort. That is 100% not the problem on game day. Every player has a GPS measuring every heartbeat, metres covered, accelerations etc etc. How to you think they hide their lack of effort from the fitness staff and coaches? I’ll answer for you they don’t. The staff know how well they prepare preseason - cue members forum and only 2 players doing more than 50% of preseason loads. Last year it was clear, especially in hindsight to supporters who attended the forum, the team was overall not fit, probably had diets that were detrimental to their endurance, and to my eye looked like they lost strength. We will see how the 4 qtr efforts are this year, but I would expect a return to 2018 where we were one of the best second half teams in the league, rather than the 2019 version where we were the worst.

  40. There hasn't been enough full match sim to make any declarative statements and even then it's impossible to tell until the real stuff starts. That said, last year was a write off in terms of working out where the strengths and weaknesses lie, but if we go back to 2018 the biggest problem with our defending was midfield transition. Our forward pressure was ok and lifted in the run in to finals. Our backline had plenty of good moments, but it seemed they had to be super aggressive and go for the intercepts up the ground because if they sat back teams would coast through our mids. Tomlinson and Langdon are big inclusions to make sure the wings have proper two way run. Harmes to a half back flank I'd imagine is to get a player who can cut off a lot of transition attempts. Those 3 should be tasked with getting in the right positions to cut off the easy targets, which in turn hopefully forces long kicks to Lever patrolling half back or May at full back. The inside mids - as with all our players - are doing a heap of work on transition drills. Viney is clearly having a better preseason and can be really important in that part of the game. Oliver is fitter again and whilst he'll never be an endurance machine he has the burst and instincts to pressure. Brayshaw can't be as bad as last year. Petracca is the wildcard, in theory his aerial ability, reading of the play and burst should be as useful defending as attacking but he has to have the motor. Defensive personnel is a bit of a concern (2nd key defender, mid sized depth) as is finding the right mix between pressure and attacking players up forward, but the team is absolutely drilling two way work rate.
