  1. My wife just asked me why I’m watching a video of a bunch of hunky dudes working out to a generic, slightly eastern-influenced piece of trap music. I must admit that I didn’t have an immediate answer.

  2. What a load of rubbish... He did his ACL at training, nothing to do with basketball. He's not responding to chatter, he was not a plodder... He had a good year last year and we expect he will build on it this year. He's a kid now man who has not been happy with his own game to date, he reckons he can play better footy and he's taken the initiative to make it happen. I don't know where you're getting all this responding to chatter, much needed push. He's a proud kid, now man and he wants to do better.

  3. Not potting you but in my opinion tgis is completely wrong. Seems to be a common view, even from dees fans who presumably watched him a fair bit. Which I find strange. He was terrific last year. As he noted he had surgery in the preseason and so never got fully fit. Which made it hard for him to stay in games for 120 minutes. But he was super consistent accross the season and our best forward. His season was massively underrated. Was ok the previous year too.

  6. I honestly thought he was going to be a generational player for us - I’ve not been so excited about a key forward on our list since Schwarz It’s a shame he’s suffered as many personal issues as he has and I wish him all the best for his future.. just not against us!

  9. Some ordinary comments on here. I wish and hope Jesse gets some form of happiness and peace back into his life. Forget footy, his well-being is the most important thing right now.

  11. I can see you are doubling down. A talented plodder to this point in his career? Really? Again, i disagree. This is his career averages: Career Season Averages Year Team GM K H D M G B T HO FF FA GA I50 CL CG R50 BL 2019 Demons 22 9.6 9.1 18.7 4.0 1.0 0.6 3.0 0.2 0.7 0.9 0.7 3.6 2.4 2.9 0.2 2018 Demons 24 11.2 9.1 20.2 4.0 0.8 1.0 3.0 0.2 0.6 0.9 0.9 4.3 2.6 3.7 0.6 0.14 2017 Demons 22 8.2 10.6 18.8 3.3 1.2 0.3 2.5 0 0.5 0.8 0.9 3.2 2.6 2.9 0.5 0.09 2016 Demons 17 8.5 8.9 17.4 2.5 0.7 0.7 3.3 0.2 1.0 0.7 0.8 3.9 1.9 3.0 1.1 Career 85 9.5 9.4 18.9 3.5 0.9 0.6 2.9 0.2 0.7 0.8 0.8 3.8 2.4 3.1 0.6 0.06 These are solid numbers. Remarkably consistent. An average of nearly 20 disposals a game is impressive for a player who has mainly played forward. Has been resilient and played though injury. these are nnot the numbers of a plodder This is his 2019 stats compared to DeGoey, a player he is often compared to. Now i'm not suggesting he is as good (yet) but the numbers are remarkably similar, as evidenced in the Supercocah and AFL Fantsy scores and values. Of particular interest are the score involvements, tackles inside 50, metres gained, one percenters, contested possessions and stoppage clearances (note his career averages are actually better than DeGoeys in almost all categories, with a notable exception being goals, 0.9 to 1.3). 12. Jesse is a rare cat. A unique footballer and a unique character. Been through a lot for such a young man and wears his heart on his sleeve. I hope he improves and we see him back on the ground soon. Wish him all the best.

  13. No leaving for him was right. From what I understand, from a source incredibly close to Hogan, his mental health was the best it had been in a long time when he moved back to Fremantle. For anyone saying we dodged a bullet I think you are shallow. Had Hogan stayed it is almost certain he would have had the same issues. I’d like to think the MFC would have looked after a kid they drafted at 17 and benefited from others seeing how we treat our own. There is more to life than footy and I hope he bounces back from another adversity.

  14. I was a bit doubtful at the time, but I think on balance, getting both pick 6 and 23 (or whatever it was) and then Steven May was a pretty fair trade in retrospect (perhaps more than fair in our favour - only time will tell completely). As a Melbourne supporter, I was pretty dam disappointed that we were loosing a once in a generation CHF in the Johnathan Brown mold (I do think he was on that kind of trajectory at one stage). So I can imagine that asides from the other stuff he has had to deal with in his life, I assume it could also be pretty depressing and frustrating dealing with this lingering foot injury which also seems to be holding him back in a playing capacity. After putting in so much hard work and sacrifice in his early years and being set for great things, it must be pretty confronting for him to deal with, that his career may not pan out as well as everyone expected. It's not that other people don't deal with adversity in their lives (I think we can all think of numerous MFC past players cut down by injury and struggled with personal truma behind the scenes) but I put myself in his position and can well understand that even asides from his other health and family tragedies in recient years, just dealing with the realities of setbacks in his career would be enough for a lot of people to deal with - he is human after all. In times gone by, in the VFL days pre internet etc, he probably would have dealt with all this mostly in private. In VFL days he might also have had more other focuses in his life like a job that would provide some balance and purpose to his life outside football. I hope that his family, personal friends and both the Freemantle footy club and his friends at the MFC get around Jessie and provide him with the right sort of support and influence to help him on the right track. I'm not making assertions that this is an immediate concern for Jessie, but you only need to look at the tragedy of what happened to Ben Cousins to see that the wrong kind of influences in this situation can have some pretty bad life outcomes. Who knows what the future holds, Jessie may well come through the other side of all this and still become an undisputed champion of the game that the expectations thrust upon him, but if not and he were to either give up the game or just play out his career as an average player that didn't seemingly reach his assumed ultimate potential, he still has still had a football career to this point that most people would be envious of and there are other things in life asides from just footy.

  15. DD... the comments being directed towards you have absolutely nothing to do with whether you or anyone else potted Hogan or not; they allude to the fact that you simply say the club got rid of him at the right time, yet not a word of acknowledgement re the personal hell he is obviously going through at the present moment. Maybe go back and re-read a few of the comments that preceded yours and then look at your own comment by way of a comparison... you might understand why you were seen as lacking in empathy.

  16. It's funny you say this, I remember Max Gawn being described in a similar way and when he did put the hard yards in to become who he is today he certainly did bring others along for the ride. I think Petracca will always be a bit of a big kid in being energetic and a bit of a lampoon at times, but if he puts the right attitude in at the right times then I think he will reach some of the hights we all hoped for him (and will hopefully bring a few others up as well). I noted that in his interview he mentioned two trips, one with Salem and one with Clarry. Two guys that you would argue are big futures for our club and it sounds like they didn't just sat back knocking down beers.

  19. I think that's pretty much the point mate - he doesn't deserve 'special treatment', but he deserves the same basic understanding/ empathy you'd give anyone else in his situation. Not having a go at you, obviously you don't wish him any ill will. It just seems a bit cold-hearted to be patting ourselves on the back for trading him when the bloke's well-being is at stake.

  21. First, let me wish Jesse well. Second, people need to understand that clubs do things that may seem wrong to people on the outside, because they generally have much more information than fans to base their decisions on. Third, constantly reverting to past decisions ( which I have also been guilty of, mainly to do with drafting) probably doesn’t assist in dealing with the present situation of a club.

  22. Not wanting to get all high and mighty, but comments like this are in bad taste I reckon. Whether were right/ wrong to trade him is irrelevant now. The bloke is clearly going through hell. All the best to him.

  23. To be perfectly honest i don't think roos leaving is much loss. i rarely found his comments interesting or particularly insightful. And he often had biases that he struggled to hide.

  24. I watched him at training one day have about 20 shots at goal from his and other difficult positions. I reckon he got 18 of them. This shot was no fluke. Oh how I hope Harley gets better and plays for us. It would be truly exciting.

  27. I really liked the interview with Petracca from the camp day 2. The interviewer gave him a couple of good ins to talk about himself and how fit he is and how well he is travelling but he choose on both occasions to talk about the team. From what I have seen and heard he looks in absolute ripping condition so he could of easily given himself some praise but didn't. Good stuff Tracc - perfect attitude

  30. The most pleasing thing out of the Trac interview is to hear we nearly have 2 squads out there participating in drills. Our injury toll of last year has been discussed at length and the effect it had on our season but to hear Trac say some of our match sims were 10 v 10 ( he’s probably not even exaggerating) makes you realise just how bad it was at times. Some say poor management, some just bad luck, either way not much can be done on the track with numbers like that. Stay fit boys and hopefully with a near full list we can get a few early wins to hit the ground running then who knows, we just might get on a roll in 2020.

  31. Interesting seeing today's interview with Petracca. I could be reading too much into it, but he seems to have matured. Boyish enthusiasm replaced by steely resolve?

  33. He's in absolutely ripping condition. For a guy that has had his battles, both injuries and self-induced, he's really giving his last chance at AFL a serious crack. I wish him nothing but the best of luck with regards to his legs. We will ultimately benefit from it if he makes it back, but the personal achievement it will be for him as a person will be massive, possibly life-changing.

  34. It would be hard coping with mental health challenges when you are in the public eye, so I hope he gets better soon. As a matter of interest, do we know whether his foot has properly healed? (And as to the comments from Drysdale Demon, some things are better left unsaid...so I won't say them.)

  38. Mr punch first ask questions later at his best. The way you present yourself on here suggests you don’t have empathy or you just have little self awareness, volunteering badge or not. As to Jesse, here is hoping you can find an outlet that brings you happiness, joy and satisfaction.

  39. You are correct, but most of them don’t have their problems put out in the public space and splashed all over social media at such a young age. You showed zero sympathy with your comment re Hogan... I certainly hope you are a little more sympathetic with the people you deal with in your work as a volunteer.

  40. I thought the same Bing. What was also notable was his batting away any notion that he's demanded more time in the midfield. Contrary to popular rumour. He just wants to win games. And so say all of us.

  42. The same issues surfacing that were bubbling away at our club, that we weren’t allowed to talk about on here at the time. We made the right call getting rid of him. With that said, I really hope he can turn his life around. However, the influence he was exerting on other young players was why he was moved on. I’ll leave it at that, as I don’t want the mods here telling me I am defaming the bloke? Good luck to the kid.

  43. They need an ex coach who hasn't checked out to take the position if they are serious...can't be just an ex players view as they don't have the whole picture. Wallace would be my first choice but I think he's headed towards retirement. Please not Nick...
