Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all Demonlanders. It’s been a tough year for our beloved club. Let’s hope we can bounce back in 2020. I want to thank our Mods @Nasher, @Whispering_Jack, @Grapeviney, @george_on_the_outer. They go above and beyond in their tireless work of keeping the forum civil and a friendly, inviting and inclusive place. Things can get heated in here especially in the tough times and the mods do a great job of keeping the peace. Thanks to my Podcast cohosts @Grapeviney, @Supermercado & @george_on_the_outer. It’s a tough job having to front up week in week out when you only win 5 games so thank you guys for not bailing on me. A big big thank you to our regular preseason trackwatchers @kev martin, @Baghdad Bob, @Satyriconhome, @DeeSpencer & anyone else who I’ve missed out. This year you guys have raised the bar and I look forward to your reports in the New Year. A million thank yous. And lastly but certainly not least thank you to all of you who make up this wonderful community. This forum is nothing without its contributors. Hopefully 2020 brings us that elusive Premiership so that we can all bitch about the cup not being shiny enough together. Bring on 2020. ???

A huge thank you to Andy and all others who make Demonland such a wonderful place for us to meet and share our woes, disappointments, hopes, dreams and occasional joys. As an 'interstater', remote from the Melbourne media, I honestly don't know where !'d be without a healthy serve of Demonland to go with my Weet Bix and muesli 365 days a year. Hope Santa was generous with red and blue gifts for everyone, and that 2020 brings something very special, even if we do have to wait until September!

Merry Christmas Demonlanders. I’d like to apologise for anything stupid I’ve said and all the other stupid things I’m bound to say over the forthcoming season. As a long-game Christmas gift to you all, I have decided that if we don’t win the flag in 2020, I will super-glue myself to the statue of Norm Smith outside the G, and simultaneously hold a hunger strike until all the other teams acquiesce into just letting us win 2021’s flag. This is something Darren Burgess hasn’t thought about, and I feel it’s the missing link in our plan.

ScoMo went for a little break while the country burned. Who cares, Kev bolted while Dees preseason was in full swing. Unforgiveable. Only joking Kev, you're an absolute legend. I could never put into words what your preseason reports have meant to me during a tough time in my life. I truly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. Have a great Christmas.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all. It's the generally good natured banter on Demonland that helps get us through seasons like this. Nothing like a good argument or difference of opinion. Also nothing like some of the really informative stuff we get to share such as the training reports and well founded rumours (scoops). Thanks to the crew for making it all happen & thanks to the majority of posters for making it an enjoyable experience.

Our good friends at Demonblog have put together the Top 50 wins of the decade. I was actually surprised we had amassed 50 wins in that time.

Entitled to your opinion about Pickett, and who knows, he may end up being great, but I won’t call anyone an A+ and a gun after 1 game.

I do find it interesting how people wonder or muse as to how many players from one side would fit into other top sides and be effective, and how highly people rate individuals playing in the top team over those in a lower side. I think the example of Marlion Pickett in this years Grand a Final gives you the example of how any reasonable AFL player could become part of a TEAM and make an impact. So, I would suggest you could pick 10 players from this years GC side who would fit into richmonds premiership team. I wouldn’t suggest they could all pay at once, but many would those fitting into the team and paying their role. I would say that Oliver, Gawn, May, T Mac, Melksham, Jetta, Harmes and Petracca could all play in top sides, together. You look at the Richmond side and they have some everyday, regular players who just play their roles, but as they play in a strong side who plays consistently, they may look better than our players. Difference between harmes and lambert for example??

Brilliant read! Mr Demonblog is a seriously funny and talented writer. Only at Melbourne can you have three 90 point wins (in 2011) and end the season in crisis.

I know it's hard to go past the two finals wins, but for the moment of pure elation, I still find it difficult to pip watching that 50m bomb from Dean Kent go through the middle against WC Rd22 2018. I'd like to think that we don't have so many of these types of wins going forward, because we have played the sort of solid H&A seasons that put us securely into the top 8 well before Rd22 in a steady controlled build that puts us into the best position to go all the way in September, but I'm not sure that's really the MFC...I live in hope.

When TMac kicked that goal, I ran the length of the house, jumped and fist pumped like an idiot, and when I went to run back, I slipped and put my heel through the plasterboard in my hallway. It always brings a smile to my face whenever I see my slightly off colour patch up job.

And some people have stupidly suggested closing this thread down, thereby denying us all this type of important information. To think that this thread is probably the only thread on DL, that doesn't have constant personal attacks on other posters. It is the citadel of important information circulation and polite intelligent discussion.

Yep. Although I’m still young clearly- I’d be the second oldest player in the AFL after Shaun Burgoyne. The prospect of people being able to maintain elite fitness at my ages seems absurd to me, I can’t scrub the toilet without my knees hurting, and I only have to look at a carb to stack on 5kg.
