  1. I'm so annoyed at Mahoney. How frustrating that he sorted another signature with the minimum of fuss and avoided a messy back and forth that might have become a distraction if left unresolved. I'm pretty annoyed at the club in general actually. I mean why isn't it leaking, with juicy tidbits seeping out to fan the fire and fill up the angst bucket. I mean don't they know they are supposed to be in crisis. I read it on DL so it must be true. And don't they know these days the onus is no longer on those spreading rumours to provide some evidence for their fanciful tales. It is on the club to provide evidence the rumours are not true. Where there's smoke. Hold on there's none. Give us some smoke dees. Why can't they take a leaf out of clubs like the Crows and Freo. Those clubs know how to have a crisis. External reviews. No reviews. Sack their coach (the one they one they got to replace their previously sacked coach). Sack the CEO. Pay outs. Leaks. Crazy short men. Media in a tizzy. Sources close to the club. Get your act together Dees

  2. “Maybe it’s what needed to happen for us to improve. It’s been lineal improvement year on year for four to five years now. This year we took a hit, a big one, but one that makes everyone internally reflect and get a true indication on what it is going to take to get to the level we long for. “I’m positive we will find our way back.” Jones signs on for 2020

  4. If it happens cue DLs version of The Life Of Brian's what did the Romans ever do for us sketch: 'Ok, apart from getting Alan Richardson, Burgess and Yze what did Mahoney ever do for us???' On Mahoney getting Richardson, i chuckle at the thought of the correlation between the posters bemoaning his appointment on the grounds he was sacked and has an average win loss ratio as senior coach and those who think the Hawks are the gold standard in everything football. You know, the club that just appointed as their Coaching director a sacked senior coach with one of the worst win loss ration in the history of football.

  6. Yeah, stuff Richardson. I would have preferred Clarko or Simpson in his role because, you know, they would be totally interested in that sort of gig instead of full time coaching.

  7. Just heard Gaz Lyon on SEN saying there might be another assistant leaving the Hawthorn nest, he was waiting for confirmation before going with it, but 100% he was talking about Yze... i suspect this is very much in play and hopefully happens sooner rather than late.

  8. I will put my hand up and admit to being super critical of him this year, he just didn't do enough or lead well enough, but i love him and love what he has gone through and what he stands for. Good on him, lets be honest, its good positive news and he will reach 300 games and he deserves to and this great (it is great for all of its non greatness...) deserves to have more than just 1 player reach the 300 mark. Good on you Jonesy, i hope you prove me and a few others wrong.

  9. Mate, St Kilda haven't appointed him their head of list management. Are you serious? Sure, he's a great player, but there's more than just playing the game involved in list management. You have to understand contracts, negotiations, scout info. If you think Melbourne should appoint a first year manager as the head, purely based on his playing credentials, than you want to see Melbourne go further down the hole. Seriously, I can't think of a more stupid decision to make.

  10. Champion data rated our list best in the comp by some distance. We finished second last. Eyes are useful, they show us a lot.

  11. Love him. Found it hard to watch him this year but glad that he'll make the 300 club. (Fingers crossed). One comment was of great interest to me - "Playing multiple roles all year and having a really injury interrupted prep before the season, I managed to get through the year." I'm not sure about anyone else, but @Satyriconhome said that nobody had an injury interrupted pre-season so I don't know why Jones would choose to lie about something like that...

  12. No, because Mahoney is hopeless. So is Richardson. So are all the people we are chasing as coaches, and all the people we are chasing as players. Our current coaching panel is hopeless. So is our playing list. Our management is hopeless, as is the board, as are our sponsors. Anyone who buys anything from our sponsors are hopeless. Our members are all hopeless. All our supporters are hopeless. Anyone who's ever attended an MFC match is hopeless. Let's see now ... the media who report on us are hopeless, and their TV shows, radio shows, and publications are by extension all hopeless. The organisations that own them are hopeless. The corporate/financial structure that enables this ownership is hopeless, and anyone or anything that opposes that structure is also hopeless. Anyone who comes into contact with any of the above bodies or individuals becomes automatically hopeless. It's all hopeless. The future is hopeless. The trains stopping at Jolimont Station are hopeless. The trams on Wellington Parade and Swan St are hopeless. Sport in general is hopeless. Life in Victoria is hopeless. All because of the MFC! I hope you're happy, MFC. You've got a lot to answer for.

  13. There is a subset of posters who will see this as an elaborate AFL conspiracy to make us think that he was highly sort after and therefore make us pay overs for him.

  14. Correct, and up to 6 clubs explored getting Richardson on their team, so its a great appointment.

  15. I think this game was the most exciting, and ultimately the most depressing, game I have ever watched. I watched it with my now deceased Uncle, and we were both in tears after it. Sad aside - when I said goodbye to him in hospital many years later, his last ever words to me were ... ‘Go the Dees’.

  16. About 15 players had injury interrupted pre season, that’s the main reason we had such a horrible year, speaking to Corey Maynard, who retired recently, he’s absolutely positive about next year, says we will be back as a force when everyone is fit and firing!

  17. He's an exception. It's still the old me when it comes to the 'interrupted pre-season' talk.

  18. I went to the 2017 gf - Lever was outstanding in the first quarter, okay in the second, and like most of his defensive teammates completely overwhelmed by weight of ball i50 against after half time Tigers were absolutely dominant from midway thru second quarter onward Lever is a very, very good player and I remain happy that he’s on our list Just get the body right and get his touch back and he’ll be right

  20. If it was up to me Viney would be stripped of captaincy straight away and I'd be looking at potential options. I will give him the benefit of doubt that he hasn't done a full pre season in 4 years. This is his chance this summer. He must change his game style and get rid of the rugby union [censored] that he tries to pull off every game. I am hoping he gets that burst back into his game that made him a great player back in 2016. As my starting mid, I am still having Oliver, Petracca and Brayshaw/Harmes as my go to.

  21. Are people kidding he is not in the best 22 right now? He played every game this year, who takes his position? We have so many average players that I don't believe anyone can deservingly take his spot.

  22. Jones has been a great clubman and has stuck with us however I believe he should have retired. I don't believe he is in our best 22 next season so will be interested to see what happens.

  23. His finish to the year was pretty woeful, but I still think footy clubs in general are too quick to turf out older players after 1 bad year, which could be for a multitude of reasons. I'm tipping him to bounce back. In saying that, he won't be captain and he will have to learn to adapt and master another position like half back, or next year will be his last.

  24. and on the script in front of them "Discuss Adem Yze departure from Hawthorn ~ and be weird about it."

  25. Lever was also known to be on his way out and Adelaide handled things like spoilt brats. Is it a wonder that the club didn't give him votes?

  26. I can't believe we're seriously arguing Jake Levers quality as a player. he was one of the best intercept defenders in his first two years, something not many players do, he's got all the attributes to be a future AFL captain and a champion of the club and he's coming off a serious injury. He and Steven May with a full pre season are going to play some great footy next year an make a lot of doubters eat their words in my opinion. FWIW i think he played well in the 2017 grand final and was one of the few players from the crows who could hold his head high, a very good effort considering the crows were treating him like rubbish and he was heading tot he exit.

  27. you would think that footy was our core business but, after this year I truly wonder that perhaps property development might be better?

  28. I'd suggest to not bother posting back to Olisik. Posts about us going after senior coaches like Adam Simpson for a 2 IC role and then gets stuck into others for posting far more realistic trade scenarios. He is the Demonland equivalent of Nuffies on AFL pages....

  29. You are not wrong there, just because a person has failed as a senior coach does not lessen the fact that they make excellent assistant and development coaches and at times heads of football departments. There are numerous examples of this.

  30. Lever was the ONLY Adelaide player that performed on the day and could hold his head high after the match. Not sure what game you guys were watching.

  31. Youre not getting my gist. Jones is no Hodge...not by a Flemington Straight. Hes been a workmanlike bloke. Its all very well to be charitable. .but surely there's a difference between a burb footy hero getting his gong and an AFL team applying professional assessment and all thatgoes along with that. In reality we are no better than a dysfunctional suburban team and run things like it. Hawthorn made the right call. Its thatt hey let these blokes go and still rebuild on the fly is the very point. We attempt rebuild after rebuild after rebuild and NEVER get there. Hawthorn gets it We dont They win silverware We dont

  33. So the Skip is holding the ball, all good , just follow team rules, kick it down the line, we are in front, one minute to go and kill the ball, Jones kicks to a contest where we are out numbered badly in the middle of the ground, and the game is over, and on that last kick Mahoney can’t get his ink on a contract quick enough, that’s leadership, that’s deflating.

  34. Typical, not surprised at all, Hawthorn move on Hodge, Lewis, Mitchell, Roughead, and we cling to the turnover merchant, it will finish badly of course, it always does at the MFC.

  35. Watch the Finals later this week, and see if you can see Jones playing at that level next year?

  36. Last quarter of round 1 and last quarter of round 23 sums up his value for me.

  37. Would he be offered another season if we had been playing finals and/or been half decent over the past 12 years? Probably not. Let's be honest, this is legacy pay for sticking through grim times. Love the bloke, but he's depth at most from here out. If he's top 22, then we have problems.

  47. Best on ground for Adelaide in a Grand Final. The best are at their best in big moments, and many would consider a Grand Final to be a fairly big moment. Bloke was a star when he crossed, and will be again once fit and able.

  49. Beating the Swans at the SCG was a good highlight for me. Pretty much the last of our hoodoos gone (just that one day in September left) and came at a time in our season when we thought at the time that there might still have been some life left in it. I particularly like the clutch goal which Weid kicked from around 50m in the last quarter to steady us. Preuss's marking and goal kicking provided some good highlights earlier in the game. Fritta's move back to the forward line, Hunt's forward line form and T Mac's couple of weeks purple patch were good. Joel Smith and AVB provided some nice individual highlights early in the preseason until respectively writing off their season's through injury. Big Max provided almost weekly highlights with his strong pack marking throughout the season and his three goals and dominance against North in Rd 23 was a nice way to finish off the season from an individual player perspective.
