Is it possible for thread be opened about playing in NT without Demonlanders who are still grappling about the concept that we play games up there, not posting about their grievance yet again? Also - the team stay at the Casino. I went 2 years ago and had a great time... IIRC we were down at half time and came back strongly in the second half. I was only up for 2 nights - and if you are there for a short time - make sure you get out to the Alice Springs Desert Park - awesome experience.... and a lovely walk back into Alice itself which is well signposted.5 points

Agreed. His kicking action is perfect, for a young key forward that’s also shown a contested mark side to his game I say we’re in the box seat for quality forward for years to come. He’s still a kid. His yips will fade. With more games he’ll read the ball better and get to more contests.4 points

I think he generally gets to the contest ok, but lacks the strength across the hips and body to impose himself upon it. Gets pushed out too easily. At 22 hears of age, that should improve. Similarly, he runs under the contest quite often, that's a timing issue which can also be worked on. I think there's a lot to like about Sam and a lot to work on to get him to where he should be at.4 points

Ffs they didn't hide him, everyone knew about him. He was outstanding in the WAFL Colts. Let's not rewrite history he was part of their next generation academy and were never giving him up. Freo are also going to do the same this year with Liam Henry. We could do with getting some value out of our NT deal and getting first access to their kids from outback communities4 points

Stumbled across the article from an Irish ☘️ news source that talks about the son of Brian Stynes from 2016. It talks about him gaining selection in the Vic Metro side as an under 16 in 2016. By my calculations, that would make him a draft chance for this year. Has anyone heard anything about where he is at? Could we potentially rookie the kid given the family connection? Article here: https://www.buzz.ie/sport/the-life-of-brian-dublin-legend-stynes-has-sam-high-hopes-for-future-172623 As a side note, I know Jimmy’s son is playing football for Wesley College. Has some size about him and runs like his old man.3 points

nah, he keeps misreading the flight.... just on that... I have watched only maybe half the games this year on tv - and aside from the 4 kicks that hit a target on the chest lace out per game - and aside from the entries that are actually bombed to a pack - it amazes me how consistently the kicks are 'just' over the arms of the leading player... It feels like those kicks happen so frequently. If those targets were just 15cm lower - i assume our f50 conversion rate would be a lot better than it is... and Weid would be doing quite well. I'm not sure if this is purely a Melbourne FC club thing, or industry wide.3 points

Be interesting to see if Caro and Barrett think Collingwood “over celebrated” at the end. de Goey looked like he was doing Riverdance when the siren went and there were more Collingwood jumpers dry humping than in a Centrelink queue.3 points

Reminds me of the 2007 Grand Final party I went to. Nearly everyone had lost interest after half time and retired to the rear deck. Sometime in the last quarter they were surprised when one of the few still watching the TV let out a massive joyous holler. I was celebrating. Port had just acquired the biggest losing grand final margin of all time. ’88 could sink a little further into the depths of history.2 points

Agree with you about the Bombers, but the Pies are right up there in the good lovin' the umps dish out. Not many teams go to Perth and end up plus 3 for frees. Both Ess and Coll are very much part of the AFL's agenda.2 points

you're right but it would be fun making an open play for him and seeing the bomber fans sweat. As I mentioned before at the very least it would play a little havoc with their salary cap.2 points

Ben Cunnington has done it again I am still [censored] off from when he hit Bernie Vince. He needs to be dealt with. The MRP won’t touch him2 points

nothing to see here... He is an expert at it, and must have done it a lot at school methinks, just to get the kids who paid out on his name.2 points

I wonder if he has ever even just said hello to Darcy Moore? Would surely be the only possible explanation for his recurring hamstring injuries. These surely cannot happen without elite help. ?2 points

Its one of the reasons Matty Whelan' was recruited "... He will also manage the club’s Reconciliation Action Plan, in conjunction with the current working group, focus on the Next Generation Academy, with an emphasis on Alice Springs and the club’s Indigenous/Multicultural pathways, plus build relationships in the Northern Territory..." whelan-rejoins-melbourne-in-new-role The role was created 2.5 years ago but haven't heard anything re talent development around Alice or NT. Hopefully Matty has some players in the wings to unveil soon...2 points

Far out Cameron, the 18yo brother of Charlie was picked at 39 as part of the WC academy. how the hell did he not go first round, did no one bid on him? seems like a top 5 talent to me. We are so far behind WC's fwd line it is not funny. I agree Pennent, we need to work on a NT academy.2 points

I think @Whispering_Jack has mentioned the development of Jim's son, Tiernan. He's still a few years away from TAC cup level, I think he's 12 or 13, but I believe shows some promise. I've seen him at Melbourne games with his family and he's certainly a tall lad. Brian and his family are mad Melbourne supporters, they attend games regularly. His son is not eligible for F/S, but it will be interesting to see the club's view should he be good enough and available at our pick. Would certainly create a lot of supporter emotion.2 points

I love Ash's speed - it's elite and the best of this draft class. My concern with Ash is his balance of ball winning. His contested possessions are only at 20%, which is well below average. All other forecasted top 10-20 picks playing in similar positions are 40%-65%. There's been a clear trend of players with low contested possession numbers at underage levels failing to adjust at AFL level. Off the top of my head, first round picks that had low contested possession counts and haven't stepped up are Toumpas, Morton, Aish, Lang, Pickett, Ah Chee, Lovell, T Menzel, Mayes. For that reason I'd prefer others such as Serong or Kemp, but there's no doubting Ash's speed and kicking is enticing.2 points

Lever for pick 10 and 19 which went to a couple of still unheard of players. That will be a steal in the years to come. No doubt about it. Lever is elite.2 points

I haven't received this yet. In the past the 5 words I've used have been along the lines of history, soft, irrelevant, pushovers, homeless, unprofessional etc2 points

You are referring to Sam Stynes. He was a top ager last year so overlooked by clubs. Played for Xavier College with the odd game for the Sandringham Dragons.1 point

This might not be popular opinion but... We've all been waiting for Christian Petracca to announce him self on the big stage...waiting for the big break out game. I think he's actually done it through the back door. No break out game but just some really good footy over the last period. Little by little. He's trusting himself more to take the shots, to break the packs, take on the game and he's hitting the scoreboard. He might not become elite or the player some had hoped for but he's heading towards "A' grade very quickly. He's a very good and important player to the team. Now...if he could fix up his set shots the sky would be the limit.1 point

If the Flying Pigs beat the Cow Jumped over the Moons and and the Rocking Horse [censored] beat the Chickens Teeth then we have 5/8th of 3/16th of FA chance. IMHO1 point

Only later 1st picks he would have been worth 10&18 or something like that, similar to Lever but top 6 is more often just the 1 first round pick. But given we had no intention of using that pick on the draft the club was happy to take the minor unders for Hogan to get May in the door. Anyone who thinks Hogan was worth pick 6 and another first round pick is kidding themselves hes not that good. At best we could have negotiated for a mid/late second round pick1 point

This is so true, picks are almost always rated higher than the player that ends up getting picked. Very few first round players end up with more trade value than the pick they were taken.1 point

The only way you’d contemplate taking Gibbs is if it was a salary dump for Adelaide that say netted us something of real value We get: Bryce Gibbs, Crows’ 2020 first round pick, Crows’ 2019 second round pick...which is actually Carlton’s (so at this stage pick 20) We lose: Stretch, 2020 third round pick Only then would you contemplate taking on his rumoured salary and...issues1 point

Woke up with sore hip flexor this morning. Blame Misson Wraps from last night. Thank you thank you here on Wednesdays1 point

Blame, of course, is one of the five stages of grief. Most Demonlanders have yet to move on to acceptance and hope stage. With Melbourne's injury list being primarily made up of contact injuries, I wonder if the blame should be placed on the shoulders of Goodwin and his chaos ball game plan? Will that make us feel better?1 point

Spot on! I reckon many on DLand would be aware of those facts. It's akin to trolling to put that clip up and perpetuate the misrepresentation of Cale and the reality of that incident.1 point

for pick 88 and they pay 60% PLUS of his wage you would consider it, but he went back to SA for family , not money. I very much doubt he will come back to Vic to play. Why would he when he is getting paid serious coin there to play in SANFL1 point
