  2. Hate calling our players spuds; they give their heart and soul for the jumper and may not be up to it but it is so disrespectful to talk about them like that.

  3. Zac Dawson played 166 games and played according to the team gameplan. Rarely had a bag kicked on him. Not many players have that good a career. Only 10% ever play 150 games.

  4. Another reason for revelling in yesterday's win is the fact that the face of the Breast Cancer Network appeal this year is life long Demon Amber Whelan who, according to the Record - that's her on the cover with Jonesy - was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 27. She was at the game with her family and I, and I am sure all Demonlanders, are rapt that she was acknowledged with a great victory. Enjoy the party, Amber.

  5. Great team win. Sat through rain, wind then brilliant sunshine but worth it in the end. I enjoyed giving Scully a big boo and it was great to see so many passionate Demon supporters compared to the last game against the Tigers. Hats off to the BCNA - they do it very well each year. i have been to all of the Melbourne games this year and have slowly seen tiny bits of improvement each week that has given me some confidence that the tide is turning. I am just sitting back watching the replay this afternoon. Go Dees ❤️?

  7. I always feel uncomfortable sitting among supporters who are drinking, something which is hard to avoid when attending our replacement games because of the large crowds. Alcohol free areas should be increased at the ground, no matter how unpopular that move may be. Alcohol leads to these unsavoury and dangerous incidents. Going to the football should be about watching the football and supporting your team, not drinking all day and becoming agitated and turning violent because of opposition supporters . If someone is being unsociable report them to security. There is a number which is advertised on the scoreboard to report unacceptable behaviour, or find the nearest ground staff or security worker to deal with the problem. They are there to do a job, which is security. Make them earn their pay. Violence is not the answer, even if provoked. On another note, this year I have noticed a slip in the keeping out of opposition supporters in our reserved seats. The workers at the gates seem to be more relaxed in their observation of this. We have had to call them to move on various opp. supporters who were causing trouble in our area, and some even waltzed in carrying beers and sat down in what was obviously a Melbourne only area. The attendants used to be much more strict. Even when I left to go to the ladies I was asked to show my membership card when I wanted to return to my seat. Now it seems fairly slack. This is disappointing, because this can lead to confrontations. Everyone needs to lift their standards in their jobs. In the first quarters of games, two security guards do a little patrol of our area and then you never see them again. In past years they would pass through frequently. Perhaps there has been cutbacks. If so, this is an area where there should not be.

  8. Bloke bashes the daylights out of a mentally impaired man, but it’s all fine because they exchanged a few words and the victim knocked a beer out of his hand beforehand. F me, our society’s attitude towards violence is the pits. It staggers me that anyone thinks this is even remotely defensible, or that the two acts are in any way comparable.

  10. Re the Frost v OMac debate, Frost has his faults, but as you can see in the last couple of minutes, Frost at least has a crack and takes the game on, OMac just doesn't.

  11. Who cares. Bad [censored] happens everyday, much worse than this. I don’t feel the need to be outraged by this whatsoever. Plus no one knows the full story, don’t just go by a few seconds worth of footage which doesn’t show what happened prior.

  15. He can play forward pretty well, I think the first game on the big stage just threw him a little. He also copped a nice corky from Roughead in his first ruck contest so he was running around sore all day

  16. Could get two more polar opposites. $cully the prima Donna No.1 draft pick with no buy into the club who lies to a great legend of our club, takes the money and runs. Harmes the player who doesn't get picked up in the draft, has to fight for his spot and bleeds for the club. His relationship with Jones one of the most loyal players in the modern world of the loyaltyless AFL is also fitting. Love Harmesy and Jonesy, whom I also thought had some good moments today. GO THE MIGHTY DEMONS

  20. "Another chance". Really? How many 'chances' does this bloke get? What u see is what u get. He has reached his potential. Will never have the required physicality and attack on the ball required. Gifted more games than any other. Keilty goes to defence, Preuss in. Please!!

  22. The best passage of play was Hunt’s lead from the goal square which resulted in a goal. He actually waited and didn’t lead at the ball carrier too early.

  23. To the old turds who told us not to boo Scully, go eat a bag. I’m a Melbourne supporter and I’ll bloody boo this piece of scum for as long as I like. If you want to watch footy in silence stay home and knit.

  25. Weiderman best on for us. Has had a really solid game. Could have been a lot better with 2.3 but has been all around the ground, taken some good marks, hit some great kicks. If he had the 4 goals he really should have had, we would have been talking about him coming back next week. Probably another game in the 2's to build up the confidence. He really is a cut above at this level, however, he really is doing all the work himself, whereas in the AFL he relies more on people hitting him on the chest.

  30. Bloody hell. That is one of the most tense finishes to a game I’ve seen in a long time. Having now watched the final quarter twice, it is abundantly clear that Frost won us that game. His final touch was Leo Barry-esque circa 2005.

  31. As one of Alex Neal-Bullen's major detractors, it seems unfair not to acknowlege that he played a good, pretty much error-free game and was a valuable contributer. Not in the best half dozen players but not far away.

  36. That outside of thur not kick to Lochhart was sublime. Lochy's effort to waste 30 seconds, turn and kick to Melksham was the smartest piece of play all day. The umpires decision to call Melksham to play on, after he marked inside 50 and said he was going to have a shot was a disgrace. I think exploiting the 30 second rule goes against the spirit of the game, but it doesn't mean the umpires can choose to disregard it.

  37. Okay, that wasn't the best game we have played but things seem to be starting to click again. It is not surprising we have been struggling to defend since we actually have more than half our first choice backline injured. I am really looking forward to seeing this team with May, Lever and Jetta down the back. I think our forward structure would work way better with Joel Smith and Hannan there. They are both really hard to match up on and can mark well above their heads and be dangerous at the drop of the ball. They spread the defence and make room for our talls to lead into. When you think about it, this team is pretty much the walking wounded, People have been ragging on them and complaining about lack of depth but look at the injuries: May, Lever, Jetta, Viney, VDB, Hannan, J Smith, Preuss, KK. With the possible exception of the last 2 they are all starting 22 players. No team can cover those kind of injuries. We just need to hang tough and rack up the wins we can during this period.

  39. For once the umpiring gods fell our way. That Frost throw was as blatant a free as you will see. Can only imagine the blow up at Dork land make it all the sweeter. The ultimate in bad losing is to call your conqueror average. Clarkson you maybe a great coach but that poor losing. How about restricting your comment to your own team. Would be plastering that on the wall for the boys to see before the rematch.

  40. I reckon it was the argy bargy between Hunt and Sicily and other skirmishes in the 3rd that got the adrenalin going. Players were getting aggro which was great to see. It was a far cry from the passiveness of the first game players let Max get mauled and gave not a whimper let alone some aggro. Early in the season Goodwin spoke of 'playing grumpy' and I suspect the second half is what he meant. People speak of our DNA being 'the contest' and look at contested possessions/tackles. I reckon our DNA is much more than that. It is the aggressive/vicious edge that we saw in the first two finals. That is when we play our best footy and the second half was a good example. We haven't quite reached the edge of the first two finals but it was a good sign. Lets keep it going!

  41. I honestly think it's a confidence thing.... When we clicked in the third we went from looking like a bottom 4 rabble to a premium team. Our hands in close where quick and effective our forwards were moving and clunking marks. We are not a precision team and dare I say it we wouldnt train like that. We rely on a sharp hand ball game in close to get our space and build numbers at the contest to create the next outlet. I am actually really happy the Hawks surged and we fought back and came from behind in the 4th after giving up a 3 goal lead. Shows a lot of character and I think we gain more from a tight 5 point win than running over them in the fourth to win by 5 goals. Hopefully the boys take something from the win and start building into the season.

  42. Watched his presser. Don’t think he’s being a sore loser so much as giving his honest view of the game. None of what he said could be said to be untrue. Hawks had the better first and last quarters and we had the better middle quarters. We punished them a little better when we had the momentum. The game wasn’t an amazing spectacle but we ground out the win with a return to basics. Clarkson also described us as one of if not the best contested ball side in the league so it wasn’t all poo pooing the opposition. His overriding point seemed to be that both sides are capable of better than what they dished up today and in the season so far. Which is true.

  43. It seems a trifle, to rifle, a gun. Those who do are without patience. Let him weave his wisdom. He has contributed to many a win. The win today was yet another example. Let that stand. I stand with Jordan Lewis. So should you.

  44. Straight from the horses’ (literally) mouth: And Harmes was a crucial factor in his side’s win, gathering 31 disposals and shutting down Jaeger O’Meara in the final term – a challenge he thoroughly enjoyed. “I loved it. Usually when I’m playing pretty good footy I’m playing on someone and beating them and then winning my own footy and I thought I did that today,” he said. “I love the challenge of playing on good players so hopefully next week if I get the role again I’ll try and do it to my best ability. “ So why hasn’t he been doing this role all year Goodwin?!

  49. Dunn spent years at one of the biggest basket case clubs of all time. Who could blame him ? Although, he's also missing the fact that Collingwood under Buckley wasn't overly pleasant in his first few years, which is why Beams, Shaw and a host of others wanted out. He went to Collingwood at arguably the perfect time. The MFC of today and moving forward will be very different to the MFC of 5-10 years ago.
