  3. Plough's usually got a bit more depth and quality in his analysis. I don't mind him as a pundit. Lever: Yeah he'll be really good to have back to his best. Of course a good player doing well is important. But as good as Lever is we should be able to cover and injury to a 3rd tall intercepting defender and/or him playing below his best. Hore might be good enough to do it. Hibberd can intercept. Jetta has high intercept numbers for his role. Hunt hopefully bounces back. Salem, Lewis, KK playing back or even Fritsch. I don't see Lever's injury as a particularly huge obstacle, he's a good player coming back, every team has them. Inconsistencies: No thanks, not really buying that. How many games was our effort and skill awful really bad in last year - v Hawks in the wet, v Magpies and some terrible moments in the Swans game towards the end of the year. Then of course the prelim. Otherwise almost every week we turned up and had a go. We struggled for most of the season with some defensive frailties and poor forward line conversion against top 8 sides. Every side has it's weaknesses though. We consistently beat up on bad sides and struggled against the top sides until later in the year when we improved a bit, that's consistency! Inexperienced tall players: Not particularly buying this one either. Up forward, yes Weideman is young and hasn't played much but the Dogs won the flag with Zaine Cordy and Tom Boyd, the Tigers didn't have a second tall forward, the Cats had Tom Hawkins come alive one year. Big Chrisso Dawes was 22 when the Pies won the flag. Down back - Sam Frost is 25 and played 69 AFL games, that's not young nor inexperienced. Oscar is about to turn 23 and has played 62 games. Oscar probably hasn't reached peak physical condition just yet but is far form slight. Isn't a common school of thought that 70 games is a good apprenticeship for most players? Tom Barrass had played 32 games heading in to last years season, played his 51st in the grand final and was aged 22. I can think of 3 better concerns: 1. Managing the work loads and potential exits from the side of Lewis and Jones 2. Run and skill from half back - especially if Salem goes in to the midfield and KK and Hunt don't come on we're in trouble 3. Lack of genuine pressure and crumbing small forward - as effective as ANB and Spargo can be they aren't Rioli's.

  4. The big three issues are: 1. Whether I am wearing the correct colour underwear on game day. (we all know that wearing underwear that has the oppositions colours (including the stitching) is a recipe for disaster 2. When I choose to turn on the radio to listen, e.g. We up by 5 goals and I turn on the radio, and the opposition kick 4 in a row 3. Whether someone you know says before the Game "You guys are a shoo in" or " 5 goals up in the last quarter and your mate says "We can't lose from here" Address these three things and we should get the job done

  5. You can't include Lever based on 10 games yet. That's just projecting. Out: Heffernen, Lever, Pickett and Rodan In: Vince, Hibberd, Melksham and Garlett.

  10. i despise this Americanization of our game. The image of Rance entering the AFLX on his skate board looking like a 2 bit pimp made me want to puke.

  11. 1. The club that pays you a handsome salary and can give you a privileged life style because of the talent you have. 2. The supporters that adore you and purchase merchandise that helps the finances of the club. 3. The Sponsorship it creates the image and unity it brings. 4. Outside your time wear what you like and on game day play the part.

  12. Nobody will be surprised to see that unbearable [censored] Dangerfield excited about this. Why dont we just rename the league to the NBA? Sick of this American garbage taking over our game.

  13. Two points- It’s hard enough to get good sponsors, we should look after them esp. on higher profile games secondly, as an employer, I notice casual Friday extends beyond the dress sense to attitude. I’d like to think the players mindset focusses on game day starting from getting dressed.

  17. When you look at how we're viewed overall, and not in isolation, I think it's a fair reflection of our capability and the expectation on us as a club. With the list we have, and if we generally stay healthy, then we should be pushing for a flag. The fact that Malthouse has left us out of the eight is further proof of our credentials.

  18. Dangerfield can wear a clown's costume to the game as far as I'm concerned, because he is one. I want to see my boys dressed in our club's attire, representing the club. There is no i in team, something Mister Danger doesn't quite understand.

  23. I played soccer for years at not a high level and even there we always had to arrive in club gear or pants/shirt. its about team unity, presenting as a professional unit. the players run the show in the NBA and I have no idea why anyone would want to copy that ego fest.
    3 points
  24. No from me. I like to see the team rock up in club colours when representing the club. Arrival at games is part of that. And I would rather players focus on the game than their wardrobe and reactions to it. Talk about giving the 'social media' more fodder to work with. Trolls will have a field day. Not surprised Dangerfield said 'Yes'. He would say it is all about drawing a younger audience to the game ala the fan-fare of AFLX. For mine, there is enough fanfare in AFL already: after goals, half time etc. But then I'm not in their 'target market' group.

  25. No personally. I have no problem with the ‘Glitz & Glamour’ of US sports as that’s what they do over there and good luck to them. Their 4 major sports have a massive world wide following regardless. My preference is the European Football model of players arriving in a team bus and club attire.

  26. Marcus was an acquaintance of mine growing up in the small community of Roleystone in the Perth Hills in the 80s. He was a couple of years older than me. He was a gun junior footballer, obviously. Watched his career with interest starting at East Perth in the WAFL, then Fitzroy and then the Dees. I remember bumping into him at Perth airport when he was an AFL footballer, after not having seen each other for probably about 8 or 9 years and he instantly recognised me and remembered my name. Top bloke. One of only 3 players from Roleystone Junior Football Club to make it to the AFL (the others were Daniel Gilmore and Josh Head, both Dockers players). Haven't seen Marcus since that day at the airport all those years ago.

  27. both TMac and Jesse are good players. both aren't perfect, but the biggest differences I have noticed between them are; Tmac is a good one grab mark when he gets clean hands to the ball, but he also hits packs and creates chances for others if he cant mark it. Jesse's a bit of a two grabber who prefers to be grounded in a one on one marking contest, and if that's fails, he tends to play for a free kick instead. Tmacs a straight shooter with a simple repeatable technique. Jesse's run up and set shot are never consistent. Tmac gives repeat efforts no matter what. Jesse drops his head and sulks if things don't go his way. not surprisingly I prefer Tmac as a FF. he's a more complete player and he frustrates me a hell of a lot less than Jesse used to.

  30. Isn't it time for Demonland to have a weekly vote for AFLW like it does for the men's competition? Or does it exists and I can't find it? I understand that there will likely be far fewer posters contributing but surely there are enough to provide their opinions. For what it's worth, for the NM game I would vote: 6. Mithen 5. Paxman 4. Hore 3. Cunningham 2. Gay 1. Hanks Possibly a bit tough on O'Dea and although I have only seen about half the games the women have played, that was the worst game I've seen from her. But she is so good, even her worst game (that I've seen) still nearly got votes.

  32. Dangerfield is a certified DH. I hope our players don’t even give this a second thought, I’d imagine having your team clothing ready to go on the morning of game day is one less thing to worry about. Once again Dangerfield is thinking about Dangerfield.

  34. You also forget Gary Baker, Stephen Icke, Peter Vardy and Peter Rohde. How you could contemplate Rodan, Carman, Catoggio and Turley is beyond my comprehension. They played but a handful of games for Melbourne, none of them any good.

  38. Most footy fans would agree with you re Brown, except me. He's most definitely a talent, but I find him quite one dimensional. What I like about McDonald is that he not only takes marks inside 50, but he also plays that important connector role from defence and can take a grab on the wing. Those connector marks are invaluable and often start scoring chains. I hardly see Brown leave the forward 50.

  46. The last few days Grant Thomas has stated players are citing "mental health issues" to dodge the illicit drug policy. Nick Riewoldt has backed it up by saying players are taking the p.iss. Now Jack Steven is taking indefinite leave from the Saints for "mental health" reasons Just sayin.... We wish Jack all the best.
