  1. Jones came 4th in our B&F and is an incredible (and underated) endurance athlete Viney struggles to stay on the park. Stick with the two. There is no downside.

  2. We have to handle Jones final years with respect and integrity. He deserves nothing less, and that also goes for the captaincy issue. Nothing to be gained and possibly some damage by making Viney sole skipper.

  4. I think we should have a look at Tom Berry, Jarrod's younger brother. For anyone who didn't watch much of Brisbane this year I'm very confident Jarrod Berry is a star in the making, as well as a captain in the making. Really good all round player capable of playing pretty much anywhere on the ground. Tom isn't as tall but has similar characteristics. If we're looking for versatile midfield depth then I'd be looking at Tom.

  5. His ""look"" is the way he is. There are lots of guys who don't smile or look happy. They may be ecstatically happy but don't show it. Like others I am not unhappy that he is gone. All the talk about him over the last 2 or 3 years has been time consuming and a drainer. He is a young man who wanted to go home and he has done so with....buckets of money. Its like Watts. It gets to the point where enough has been said about this guy. ....he is a footballer that's all.. Well and truly over him.

  6. The only downside I can think of is the captaincy may make Goodwin and co more reluctant to drop him than they otherwise might be when it gets to that point, but given Jones’ finish in the B&F, that point is probably further away than many think. That’s just me trying to come up with a counter-argument; I agree with your post.

  7. There are some players that no matter how many weights they lift, or how fit they are, they just don’t look it. Or I should say, they don’t look as ripped as some others. I’m not too concerned though, he won GC’s 2km time trial last preseason in 29 degree heat before the headaches kicked in again around R4. With the strength and conditioning program I would guess he is on for his neck issue, I’m going to back him to do well in our preseason. ??‍♂️ ??‍♂️

  8. Co captains worked well this year. Let Viney get a full year playing 20 plus games, under his belt before being the only captain in 2020.

  11. Good line of argument but still leave alone for 2019. Use the season to evaluate for 2020 and beyond. Jonesy may well wish to handover end of next season if he is struggling for form or a place in the side.

  12. And doesn't he look ecstatic! I imagine it is how its meant to be but the further down the track, the less unhappy I am that he left

  13. Spoke to the son of a former junior coach of May, who described him as one of the most coachable boys he had coached. Might not be the brightest player ever, but he clearly sees this move as his best chance of team success and will give it everything.

  16. Sorry DC, you need to look up the meaning of protagonist. Gaff is a perpetrator and by extension most definitely not a victim.

  17. It's sad when the meaning of english words get expanded and twisted to fit whatever the latest liberalist agenda of the day is gaff is not a victim. he is a protagonist just having to deal with the consequences of his unsocial and stupid actions next we will call criminals victims because they have to do a stretch in the big house

  18. That newspaper is toilet paper only. Poor writing, extremely poor editing and copy checking (spelling and grammar atrocious in almost every article) and heavy political bias to the left of Stalin.

  19. Angus Brayshaw showed some really promising signs in his first year (2015). Due to injuries and concussion issues his next two years were disappointing. He lost his aggressive attack on the footy and just didn't look the same promising player. Demon Andrew, or whatever he's now called, potted him every second week. When he finally got some confidence and continuity in his game and was played in his best position (on-ball) he shone. You don't lose your natural talent. I'm looking forward to seeing what Kolodjashnij can do with confidence in his body. At 23 he's the perfect age to come to the club.

  20. I know it is not the first time this sentiment has been expressed but the Club had decided before the end of the season that both parties would be better off if Jesse was to head back West. This is coming from an ex 20+ year employee and a life member of the MFC

  21. Local journalist Paul Amy reporting that the Casey Demons have made their first signing for 2019 - Wodonga Raiders midfielder Tom McCaffrey, originally from Manly Warringah Giants. He has played for Sydney Uni in the NEAFL and has also topped up for the Sydney Swans reserves.

  22. It's too soon just Yet, for Viney as soul captain. And there is no reason why someone else may pop up for leadership stakes, during the next 12 months.

  25. Back full circle to Sandown this week although the fields are not overly strong, all things considered. Still, there are some good betting races to be had (Races 5, 7, 8 & 9 have an even spread of chances) The 3 feature races at Ascot (WA) this Saturday holds some interest as well - building nicely to the 3 Group 1's coming up over the next month or so. Pounamu won't be seen though which is a shame - in the paddock at the owners property (somewhere in NSW) after having a minor setback. Trainer not happy. Material Man will be back however after bypassing the Spring over here. Full Card - Sandown Hillside Saturday 17th Full Card - Ascot (WA) Saturday 17th

  31. Agree Jr And on the flipside there is possible downsides to taking the captaincy off him eg sending a signal his career is coming to an end, annoying his senior (and no doubt loyal) colleagues etc

  32. Somewhat similar to Kent, who was given away. That is the way of the AFL these days. Probably half of DL's thought we overpaid for for Milkshake and Pig, yet today probably all of us would think we got bargains.

  34. I don’t understand the media stance on all this Gaff gave out a full left arm punch to the face and is being portrayed as the long suffering victim... strange and rather sick in my eyes

  35. I don't think it worried us when we were interested in Jake Lever. I have no problem at all with clubs talking to players during the season. It's a professional competition and the players and the clubs are both striving to make the best deals they can. Nevertheless, I don't like the NRL system where players announce during the season that they will be playing with a different team the following year, but I suspect it will inevitably happen in the AFL and we'll all just get used to it.

  36. I don't see a concern for him leaving the club and the team that he has put together over the last 2 years or being lured to another club. Goody would have loose screws in his head to even think of that. He is too devoted to his boys and the cause. There is some unfinished business that is awaiting. I have faith that he is in for the long haul.

  38. His final series was pathetic. The worst I have ever seen by a Captain over a full finals series, where he struggled to get a single possession in any game.

  39. Happened all finals series. He was pathetic. All well and good to be a voice on field, but at least back it up with actions. As a teammate i would find it very hard to listen to a bloke next year who struggled to get a single kick during the clubs most important period ( finals ) He wont be captain and based on his finals performance, hes not best 22 either.

  40. There is a fair few very good players above, but I would have had Wheels and Leoncelli right up the top of that list. Two absolute legends of the MFC. More than just notable.

  41. Roughly about one season 'Fifty'... Previous once in a generation players to name a few have been Lynch, Danniher, Hogan, Boyd, Moore etc.... The way once in a generation is going I'm pretty sure we can get it down to a week.

  42. Agreed. He might not be starring now, but Tyson played some quality football for us and has played over 100 games. In 2014 he finished second in the BnF to Jones in his first year with us at age 20-21. He was a bees [censored] away from winning it off Jones, and would have been a worthy winner after a stellar season. Knee injury 2015. Finished fourth in our BnF in 2016 against some quality players in a team playing well for patches and just missing the 8. 2017 he was limited by a knee injury. 2018 he struggled. The way he's been spoken about and criticised on here this year has been unwarranted IMO. I wish him well at North, as he's a good bloke who played some good footy for us and chose to come when we were basket case. Here's a bit of a discussion point; Tyson was better than Petracca at the same age! Regarding DFAs, doesn't seem like we'll pick anyone up. I'm a bit surprised we moved so many players, as our list appears like it will come short? Perhaps we will re-rookie some like Bugg?

  43. I’m a bit disappointed he was having tea and scones with Fyfe and Lyon while the season was still alive, but I won’t boo him. That being said, I don’t see the big deal about booing ex players as a general rule. It’s all a bit of pantomime fun regardless of who it is.

  45. I think we've finally actually got the colour mixture right for our home jumper, the navy blue is so dark it's nearing black but still clearly blue and the red is a proper blood red to contrast with it. Keep the redback for the away/alternate strip.

  46. Is he staying at the Dees beyond 2019? He apparently applied for the role as CEO only to be pipped by Pert. I've heard JM was PJ's choice. Given that, I'd be interested to know how Mahoney, Pert and the Board are getting along. Mahoney is one of the most important components of our success as a football club. I'd like him to be with us for the next 3 years at least

  47. Please tell him to stay until we've at least won three flags. He seems like a bloody good footy boss.

  48. Wow. The star pulling power that Demonland has is impressive. I noticed that Maxy also gave Demonland a bit of a shout out in his B&F speach. That these players and officials of standing keep rocking up to give interviews is a real credit to the manner in which the moderators and administrators at Demonland run the forum. Well done guys.
