While the biscuits have been removed from this thread, we seem to have been left with a few that are crackers.15 points

As long this trade remains incomplete it means we still believe we're in the Hogan trade market.14 points

I'm a bit confused about all the wrist slashing. Option One: We trade Hogan to our advantage (as determined by the FD) Option Two: We keep Jesse who is an elite talent. What's the problem?13 points

R1 v Geelong, 3.0 goals (MFC top scorer), 16 disposals (10th highest for MFC), 3 marks R4 v Hawks, 1.1 (2nd highest for MFC), 24 disposals (2nd highest for MFC), 3 marks R5 v Tigers, 2.2 (2nd highest for MFC), 22 disposals (5th highest for MFC), 9 marks R12 v Pies 0.1, 17 disposals (=7th for MFC), 3 marks R18 v Geelong 1.1, 14 disposals, 4 marks R21 v Sydney 1.3 (=most scoring shots, 3rd highest scorer), 19 disposals (9th for MFC), 4 marks Those are his 6 games against top 8 sides. Averaging 18.6 disposals, 1.3 goals, 2.6 scoring shots, and 4.3 marks. I would hardly call 18.6 disposals and 2.6 shots on goal "going missing" given lost all those games (and were thrashed in three of them).13 points

Is it is it just me? Has the trade week nonsense addled my brain? Tom Morris says the deals off because of the duration of contract, so ‘Melbourne have to buckle’? What the hell? The duration of the contract between Jessie and Freo is a matter they have to resolve for themselves! Where do we get our journalists from these days?9 points

There’s an important distinction between being open to trading Hogan and being desperate to trade him.9 points

He's got another 3 gears in him 'bub'... I think a few are underrating how good a 23yo who has missed a couple of years of footy will be. I know you don't like statistical comparisons but maybe an interesting maturity comparison is Jack Reiwoldt who was a petulant, sulking, selfish player at a similar age. We're not losing Jack Watts here, this is a serious talent. We need to be well compensated if he moves on.9 points

I think many Demonlanders are in denial. Hogan is a rare talent and is yet to peak. It will be a significant loss if he goes. I fear we will have many painful years watching what he can do for another club.9 points

Dream scenario if Freo refuse to give up what we ask: We keep Hogan, he plays CHB all year and we win the 2019 flag. Meanwhile, May verbally agrees to a contract for the end of next year and comes to us as a Free Agent. Freo finish next year on the bottom of the ladder with a percentage of 52 with their leading goal scorer being Joel Hamling with a total of 16 playing as a key defender. West Coast offer us the deal of a lifetime for Hogan, managing somehow to acquire two first round picks and a second round pick for an exchange of later picks with us. We now have the ammunition to trade for Kelly and he nominates MFC as his club of choice in part due to his surprise engagement to Christian Salem. Melbourne win next 4 flags. Stevethemanjordan wins the lotto and announces his retirement effective immediately as self-appointed moderator and champion poster of demonland. The end.8 points

I would suggest that first Freo have to buckle with regard to the Neale deal so that they can get pick 5. if they do fold on that then it would be a significant backdown by them and I could see Bell going aggressively at the hogan deal to get his feathered cap.7 points

What today’s contract ‘revelation’ tells me is that Hogan is happy to stay at the Dees and in Melbourne, but has put to Freo that if they were to make him an obscenely good, too good to refuse offer, then he’d go.7 points

In general I agree with you. However it would be naive to assume that none of them have agendas. Most of them are not real journalists who have a code of ethics. They are ex-player and members of boys clubs. Many of them probably suck up to individuals at clubs and that may influence their 'reporting'. So if one of them has a clear history of bias, I don't think a tin foil hat is needed. Personally I don't follow any of them. I barely recognise their names.7 points

From the AFL site, How is it not Draft Tampering? PORT Adelaide has fired a warning shot at Gold Coast, declaring it would back itself to lure highly rated draftees Jack Lukosius or Izak Rankine back home if the Suns recruit either of them. Port list manager Jason Cripps effectively cautioned the Suns against taking either of them when speaking to NAB AFL Trade Radio on Monday.7 points

I agree. I've let it slide over the weekend when there was nothing happening and granted there still isn't anything happening but if you would like to continue talking biscuits then please take it to the general forum.7 points

On form, he's not worth a first round pick, let alone pick 5. He's not in the top 5 full backs in the league at present. He's been poor-average for the past 1-2 years. Most believe that's due to not wanting to be where he is now, but there's the chance he's just not capable of playing the way he did a few years ago. If all we got for the best young key forward in a decade was an average full back and a token pick I'd be very disappointed.7 points

How many [censored] times do we need to go over this? He's not a free agent. His contract runs out at afternoon tea tomorrow, and if no trades are done for him, he'll be available on the tearoom bench. If nobody picks him up, he'll be de-plated and go back in the cupboard, at which time he can move to anyone with the munchies. There were early rumours that Phil Scully was looking to do a trade for him, but suddenly some KFC became available and all his decent picks are going on that. Regardless, I can't see him getting through the pre-work session, Phil's generally first in the kitchen of a morning.7 points

Completely agree. Really a wierd article . This little excerpt says it all "Hogan stands to make approximately $900,000 next year at the Demons so a jump into seven figures is not overly significant, but the Dockers began to smell a rat when Melbourne then came and asked for two first round selections as well." I mean what did they expect? Jesse has been greedy in going for that length of contract...but Freo could easily say to his manager "nope its strictly 4" without getting into ANY haggling with the MFC itself.6 points

It’s like a few builder mates I have, they get asked to quote for a job and don’t really want to do the job for different reason’s. So they will over quite by 30% or more on the usual rate, if the client says yes... happy days but not a job they were chasing.6 points

Am I going crazy but in what world is Lachie Neale worth more than Jesse Hogan? Like seriously.... 1 is a decent mid who is an accumulator who has happened to win 2 B & F's at a rabble club whilst never coming top 10 in the Brownlow. the other is a 23 year old key forward who has the best numbers at this age as any key forward in the league. Once in a generation player. The thought that Freo will get Hogan & Change for Neale makes me want to spew. I simply do not get it....6 points

Yep, No squirming here either. Full MCC for 40 years. Full MFC - 31 Consecutive Years - plus underwriting 4 other MFC memberships for my beloved family!! (M51 Reserved Seats). Very proud MFC Member who happens to be lucky enough also to be an MCC Member as well!5 points

My initial anger at your ILL INFORMED comments has subsided and realize that your comments are just plain stupid. One only has to see the scarf's in the reserve with both MCC/MFC signs. This season coming up I shall be 60 years a member of the MFC. I'm still shaking my head at your comments and if you read many comments on DL you would realize many are MCC members.5 points

Cool story bro. If you know us MCC members so well, riddle me this - why aren’t I rich and why am I a member of the MFC?5 points

Do you think he chose to chase kicks because he was losing the defensive battle, or do you think he was utilized further upfield because we were getting pantsed in the midfield, we needed someone to try and change the game, and his field kicking is high quality? I suspect it's a bit of both, but we were deliberately playing him upfield early in the season where he was having a great enough impact that he was being discussed as AA CHF at the half way mark of the season. Garry Lyon had him there mid season based on 19.7 disposals and 2.6 goals. https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/allaustralian-2018-afl-squad-garry-lyon-released-midseason-best-22/news-story/a5e4190718a3502ccab8205dc2c42911 Afl.com.au did too http://m.afl.com.au/news/2018-06-07/who-makes-our-midseason-all-australian-team Yeah I agree his output was lower in those games, but do you really think it is purely because he isn't good? Or that he is a "bully" or a down hill skier? Or do you think other factors like "we lost all games against the top 10 teams while he was playing" come into it? I mean he featured in mark of the year, while on a beautiful lead in stacks of space but Pedo kicked it over his head. Fix that terrible kick and he scores. That's why Hawkins kicked 7 in round 18: midfield service. And Hogan rarely gets that kind of service.5 points
-
Also it needs to be noted that the delivery to our forwards in those games was substantially poorer than our usual low standard due to the increased pressure on our midfield. No forward in the History of the game can kick goals when the pass he's supposed to get on the end of goes 30m astray and lands in the arms of an unmarked defender.5 points

Yes, but you’re the one who keeps carping on about how his position is untenable now. If that’s true then it’s irrelevant whether what we get in return helps get May or not. You’ve been out-logicked(?) by WYL.5 points
