  1. 'Old Melbourne' would draft this guy. That's because we had a rubbish list and would take anyone who smiled nicely at us. We've moved past guys like this. We'll play a high brand of pressure again next year and with talls in Hogan/McDonald and excellent marking mid-talls in Petracca, Hannan, Balic and vandenBerg we don't need this guy. Harmes marks pretty well too. Two talls and high pressure smalls and mid-talls is the go. Let North take him.

  3. The tatts and moccies he acquires in Port, or more likely, Elizabeth, will be all for show and to cover up his true allegiance.

  4. Yes, I know him and the family via being on the committee @ Hampton Rovers, great people, wonderful young guy, he was the skipper at BGS this year and was BOG in many games including kicking 4 goals in the APS V AGS game in August & judged BOG with and against many lads touted top 10 in this year's draft. Had 40+ disposals against Geelong College also with plenty of draft prospects.

  5. FFS Saty grow a set! The MFC is not infallible. It is an entity, an organisation. Mistakes will be made - in admin, in drafting, in game plan, in rehab etc etc... Shite happens. It is actually ok to criticise ............... in fact it's healthy. As for the highlighted comment. There are members and supporters who cannot get to training or even games regularly, or maybe never, who value and need this information. They should not be belittled or undervalued. Constant carping and sycophancy is of no value to anyone.

  7. I would be very surprised if he got another chance at another club. 28 with only something like 38 games since 2009 and with very limited talent in a very poor period at the club. Pass AFL career looks over.

  11. who do you suggest he trains with then? he's a delisted free agent who needs to keep up his fitness if he is a chance to get drafted quite common to train with one's club until draft time. it's the right thing to do. doesn't mean we intend to rookie him.

  12. Jack is red and blue all the way through. Knowing that such an event was not only possible, but inevitable, he would drop himself to the SANFL the Thursday before.

  13. Yours is the easy argument and hard to argue against. Full credit to Richmond, after years of failing and losing in the first week of finals their senior players finally stepped up and there was total buy in to the game-plan from the rest of the group. They had virtually no injuries and the second easiest draw in the competition. But they still had to get it done and they did. Four years in finals out of the last 5 years showed they'd been there abouts. Martin, Rance, Cotchin, and Riewoldt are stars. They weren't always stars, but they're now the best collection of 4 players in the one team in the competition. Petracca, Lever, Oliver, and Hogan are not stars. Nor is Viney. And it may take them the same amount of time it's taken the Richmond players. Or not. Or they may never get there at all. So for me it rests on whether we develop stars. It always has. You give me a collection of stars and I'll show you a premiership.

  14. I agree. Despite coming first in goal kicking accuracy, we should sack the goal kicking coach. While we're at it, we should demand Jack Watts back from Port, get back to the two draft picks we gave up for Leaver, and dump Lewis back on the Hawks and for them to return the packet of chips we gave them for his services.

  15. There is a reason why we always play as the away side v Essendon and it all has to do with clash jumpers and the failure of the afl to make essendon have a real clash jumper

  17. Well, I don't remember that one incident or those other incidents, and I remember my own incidents and in the reverse. Hence, disagreement. Doesn't mean he would be a good, bad, or indifferent coach though. Moot City.

  18. Had a long talk to him in the Mahogany Room prior to the B&F and had normal shoes on. Was really pleased Lever was joining us and looking forward to training with him. Will bring a lot to the team. I never broached the "Jack" topic with him. He really understood the anger and frustration from the supporters (well me anyway) with the late season fade out. A real gentleman and displays a real love of our club.

  19. I have it on good authority that he's in for a weekly pedi, and has even had a few sneaky manis. My source quoted him as saying 'I want hands like Oliver!' No stone left unturned at MFC.

  20. I can't help but disagree. Tom McDonald has had great difficulty in trying to rectify his disposal and decision making throughout his entire career. There's only so much improvement that can be developed, if your base is a low one the ceiling will be much lower.

  21. I'd like to suggest Todd Elton is worth a look. A fitness test and interviews to see if he's capable of fitting the Melbourne mould. Predominantly as cover for other talls, but also to help split focus away from weidemann in the vfl so that he can improve his one on one contests His price is right, as is his profile for list structure.

  22. In reply to CBDees - I had to twice contact the dolts at the Club website to get them to update it. They still had Roos as coach and only Jones as captain. and this was around Round 3! Don't know what they do there but they don't seem to be paying attention.

  23. While I agree with the premise of your post, I still can't get my head around last years Bulldogs. Stars? All I saw was a committed group of blokes who had figured out a way to throw the ball so fast, the umpires couldn't keep up. The Tigers list is also full of bog-average players. Shows what can be achieved when your handful of "stars" are on song. Only takes a few.

  24. Agreed. A massive pick up. And Omac is still a kid. Give him 10kgs and 50 games and we have a very, very good backline in the making. Backs don't win Norm Smiths, but they do win most flags.

  25. Geeeee, by the time I got to the end of this thread I'd forgotten what it was about. Ah yes, Hibberd and Lever our new improved backbone: add Jetta and Hunt and we start to build something of quality.

  28. I hate to burst your bubble - you can become a neater kick over time but there is no 'kicking coach panacea' out there. If you ain't a good kick when you enter the AFL, you are likely to remain so.

  31. Spot on SWYL We can shout from the rooftops about our talented list, but the Tigs (and last years Dogs) found a way to win a flag from seemingly nowhere, with great game plans for the occasion, and total commitment from the entire list. That level of commitment is something I have never witnessed from a Melbourne team when the big time arrives. If this list stay together and play with the single mindedness of this years Tigers, we should win 5 in a row. Easy to predict that we wont, based on past experience.

  32. So it seems so far we know we have Geelong at the G in Round 1, Brisbane away in Round 2, Richmond at home in Round 5, Essendon at Etihad in Round 6, GC in Brisbane in Round 8, Adelaide in Alice Springs in Round 10, Collingwood on QB in Round 12, and Freo at Darwin in Round 16. I think we'll have a bye in Round 11 like this year between Alice Springs and QB). A bit more travel in the first half of the year so far it seems. We've got Geelong and Richmond at home in the opening 5 weeks which is great commercially. Will be interesting to see whether we get any Friday nights and, if so, when and against whom. I can't see us getting any more than 1.

  34. Im glad Max is with us ( shame the league isnt ) but hes far from teh most important cog in the wheel despite what many might think. You ARE most definitely better off with a good Ruck, but you are far FAR better off with BETTER Midfielders. If you have both....and the nod of the umps on the day...good things should come

  37. Why not? At his best, Garland was an excellent backman. Couple that with his intelligence and I think he could be very well suited to the coaching game.

  38. The addition of both Lever this year and Hibberd last year has and will completely transform our backline from an obvious weakness to now a strength. O-Mac will now be the only player I’ll worry about. But with another pre-season and further development to his skills and body I’ll feel a little bit better. Lever, Hibberd and Jetta make our backline group sound very strong.

  40. I often prefer 2 spaces, much like after the full stop. That way, it's easier to read those long rambling rants. The supersized paragraph is another odd offering - one starts reading the 8th or 9th line then one quickly realises that you've already read it. Then, you lose your spot and then give up. .

  41. It's a good point you make faulty ... and it would be just like them (the filth) to do such a thing. At some stage they'll push hard to share the gate at the QB clash though. In the meantime we can set up other clashes with the other big Victorian clubs ... we've scooped the pool first up with the Geelong home game and PJ needs to cement that one (especially if it could always be our home game) The Blues, Hawks & Dons would present opportunities too ... Home or Away (rotating year by year) or Home & Away. We can safely have these types of goals now that we've lifted ourselves out of the mire.

  42. How funny though - we get told on here about how the players were spewing and we'd see the fallout - nekminnut Watts' best mate at the club extends forever, when the old contract still had a year to run. Lol! It's one of those things though that probably originates from a partial truth. Most likely some of the players were upset and disappointed but understood why it happened, but in the great game of Chinese Whispers, it became "the players are upset".

  43. The alternative view is that games against interstate clubs played at the MCG draw smaller crowds than games played there against Victorian teams. Smaller crowds means less revenue and a worse atmosphere which discourages the Free-to-Air broadcaster from wanting to broadcast such games in prime time. So, if you look at the bigger picture, the commercial value of the NT deal (direct revenue plus the commercial advantage of playing Victorian teams at the MCG) may be more valuable to the club overall than the alternative. Of course I would prefer not having to play home games away from the MCG, but reality bites.

  45. No issues with that. Home game on our home ground. A great way to start the season and test ourselves. Will be a huge turnout. Very happy.

  46. Good skills Poor endurance Average speed Not overly physical I think he's a half back flanker and I'm not sure why the Tigers didn't play him there in the VFL if they clearly weren't putting him in their AFL team as a forward. Not that he'd make their backline at AFL level which is a strength but at least he'd show something and develop his game. If we had a heap of spare list spots I'd take him and play him half back with the knowledge he can play forward if needed but we don't have the spots so I'm not all that interested. Some team is probably getting a nice enough player.
