BUMP He's back playing Casey this weekend! Good luck Gussie, let's hope you are playing seniors before the season ends!30 points

Great to see the coaches sorting out his technique: "Brayshaw was predisposed to leading with his head and they have been trying to alter his approach to ensure he leads more with his body to absorb the contact coming his way". http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-07-18/demon-angus-brayshaw-to-return-in-vfl-after-concussions At times Gus has been too brave for his own good and getting his technique sorted would give him a lot more confidence and most importantly keep him safe. We have had very few games where Gus (out for a lot of 2016 and 2017), Petracca (out all of 2015), Salem (out for most of 2016), Hunt and Hogan (out most of 2017) have been on the park at the same time. 5 or 6 games maybe, in nearly 3 years? How awesome to see all those young guys fully fit in the same game. A real treat coming our way at the G later this year .9 points

As Wayne Carey said last night, Martin got off with a slap on the wrist because he's in Brownlow contention. Bernie clearly is not. We can debate all we like whether Bernie was a dill or not, but there are clearly different rules, for different players, at different times. Schofield got off, due to his good fortune on the night that the Tribunal handed down a manifestly inadequate penalty to Houli. Schofield could not have been suspended on the night, given Houli got only 2 weeks in the first instance, for what he did. Then the spotlight turns on Clarry for supposedly staging. The system is broke and needs fixing.9 points

So Vince gets 2 weeks because of a bad reputation and playing for the MFC. Martin from Richmond gets of for eye gauging because he is one of the Brownlow favourites and Richmond pull in a big crowd each week and are playing the Giants this week. It just goes to show how full of shizen the MRP and AFL are.9 points

Apparently Dean is still in Darwin in the cool room. They forgot him completely. Its a little embarrassing but because he was looking so sad no one wanted to go in and speak with him. As a result the rest of the players have travelled back to Melbourne without him and in addition to Dean's shoulder injury he now has frostbite and will lose three limbs. He is hoping to return in round 23.8 points

Or the elbow to the back of the head, or to the face, when your opponent is lying on the ground. One major proviso though, remembering the Salem incident this year, don't wear a MFC jumper while doing it.7 points

Gee thanks for that. The hypocrisy of the MR knows no bounds. From Dusty to Cotchin to Zak Jones elbowing Hannan and not even cited. They are the things that rile Demonland (and no doubt other supporters)6 points

I didn't mind the humour but I will agree that Paddy is halfway on the slippery slide to coming across as a full blown stroker.6 points

We are a show to be 10 and 7 this weekend, and have played some great footy this year. Why can't some of you just enjoy it rather than excreting depression all over the site? We have had some brave wins and we have had some excellent wins and right now two more wins than losses... Your Demons have a few injuries but play an exciting brand of footy and are in 7th spot with 6 games to go! Get around us!5 points

Some interesting comments from Jason Dunstall on our perceived 'discipline issues' on Fox Footy tonight. With Bernie's latest sin-binning, our suspension list this year is admittedly pretty damning. Dunstall reckoned this all reminded him of the young Hawks (post 2008) getting used to a new aggressive game style. He said 'it's maybe not such a bad thing' and these teething problems are common to 'good teams on the rise'. It's a nice perspective I'm willing to subscribe to because whilst the suspensions are frustrating and costly, personally I love our new toughness and aggression! Given Goodwin's comments last week on shaping culture and what that looks like, I think Dunstall's comments may ring true. Being nice never won the war. Thoughts?...5 points

Even though we all admit his stupidity, when you compare it to other decisions like Schofield insufficient force, Selwood a dirty elbow to the back of the head yet also insufficient force and Thompson forearm to the face of Danger 1 week, you are left with the inescapable feeling that something is very wrong. I don't think we have had anyone get off this year and have been penalised heavily. If there is no increase in penalty I would challenge, as while stupid to throw out the elbow, there was no real impact or force and that seems to be the MRP measure. I am not going the "woe is me " line, but rather seeking consistency, where at the moment there is none.5 points

Jayden's torp gets it own article in The Age. Amazing, he was kicking into the wind. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/monster-torpedo-goal-from-melbournes-jayden-hunt-was-into-the-wind-20170718-gxdta4.html4 points

Don't know about the players, but that was the moment I gave up. Such a demoralising error given we had control of the ball and the momentum from the break.4 points
-
Oh yes I would. Almost every week we see evidence of its inconsitency and corrpution, regardless of any MFC player being involved.4 points

There's a difference between playing the game with ruthless aggression and committing stupid acts that are ruthless and aggressive. Bernie's act was stupid and shouldn't be looked positively upon4 points
-
Personally I thought it was great - it was in direct response to an accusation, and rather than get all defensive - he got playful... I'm all for it. Any player with a serious injury would get it, its always always about the context.4 points
-
And then Frost fumbled the ball twice allowing Adelaide to get a goal out the back and thus destroying any chance we had.4 points

Thanks for the clarification on what Jones said, there was certainly no 'attack' on Vince. As usual, Jones was spot on. This shouldn't be a thread. Nek minnit Barrett writes an article on tension between Jones and Vince.3 points

rjay - your use of quotation marks for usernames read like scare-quotes and blanket everything in a strange suspicious tone, like you don't trust that ignition's name is really ignition and you want to convey that you're not fooled by the deception.3 points

I would be very happy if he just makes it through the rest of the Casey season unscathed. I would be orgasmic if he got through unscathed and was pushing for seniors recall.3 points

Would be great to see him push for selection before seasons end. Would be a fairytale end to the year if he got to play finals footy!3 points

Ive done the predictor to death now. Even varied scores for interest. Like yourself I'm still leaning towards 13. I am a bit surprised actually. If we can find rhythm and tempo quickly with players returning I could even argue 14....( Then i wake up )3 points

I so so so hope the playing Richmond in the first week of finals comes true. We will kill them.3 points

I stand corrected. From Wikipedia: After each round of the regular AFL season, three "mark of the week" nominations are determined by a panel of football experts. The general public can then vote for a weekly winner on the AFL website.[1][6] After the regular season's end, the title is given to a single mark, which is chosen by the All-Australian selection committee; the public is not given a say in the final outcome. The selection committee is not restricted to choosing a winner from the mark of the week winners; indeed, in 2010, the two favourites both came in round 21, and although the public voted Brendon Goddard as mark of the week, the selection panel named Jurrah as Mark of the Year. The winner is announced during grand final week.[6] GOTY Any one of the goals of the round is able to win the official Goal of the Year.3 points

You've heard correctly GT. Depth this year is non existent. Still some quality around where our first round pick would land, but most clubs wouldn't place a whole lot of value on our 2nd rounder, so could see our 2018 first being demanded in any deal for Lever. If we couldn't get away with this year's first rounder and a player, then I'd try to bundle this year's first and next year's second rounder. Absolute fall back position '17 & '18 first round picks, but with Adelaide's 2018 2nd rounder to come back in return.3 points

After the dross our club dished up for the past decade 41,700 paid up members is a brilliant number. As a 50+ year old I do marvel at the number of younger supporters who attend our games. There are lots. Good on them and may they soon be rewarded for their bravery.3 points

Would it make sense to rookie Spencer next year as back up. The big call will be on Pederson. If we don't trade for an older KPF/ruck I see him getting one more year. He has been great for the club and deserves to be treated with dignity.3 points

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-07-18/vince-needs-to-smarten-himself-up-jones Our captain certainly isn't happy and gives Bernie a serve: "He really does need to smarten himself up," Jones said..."It's happened far too often with him over the past 12-18 months, he's been (suspended) too many times..."It's frustrating for us because he's a very important player to us." Can't argue with that.3 points

Really Steve. Youve your dislike for the fellow , we get it but if you're that blindingly stupid to not be awarecof the many occasions the MFC gets whacked by the clownfest aka mrp then youll do argument no favours. Bernie does some silly things. Gets nicked. Others do ridiculous things and are given treatments beholding a cover-up. All most reasoned folk are arguing is... fair's fair.3 points

Most people here are talking about the inconsistency by the MRP, Vince aside, it's rigged.3 points

With what i hear this draft is very shallow but next year is looking a lot deeper. @ChaserJ might be able to confirm. Id be pushing for 2017 draft picks and try and keep 2018 out if it.3 points

You don't need fists or elbows to be tough. Watch how Neville Jetta tackles an opponent. He drives them into the ground, legally. This is Defence 101 and properly controlled aggression. And much to Jetta's credit, he's been like this since day one.3 points

I'm far happier we're being accused of playing on the edge and sometimes stepping over than being taunted with playing bruse free.3 points

Vince doesn't help himself. He has a terrible record! He needs to just stop behaving like a tool on the field.3 points

Honestly the AFL is completely stuffed. They change the parameters on these rules by the week, sack guys for screwing consenting adult women and just generally make [censored] up as they go along. The fish rots at the head and that won't improve until the goon running the place is gone. The only reason I turn up every week is to support this club and this year more than ever I have been proud about the way they walk out and contest every match. Bernie is a part of that, he won't get off all offences like a Franklin or Martin and he won't get personal recommendations from television hosts that nobody actually watches or politicians that don't even know who their voter base is but Bernie has guts and delivers week in week out so stuff you Gil, stuff you Waleed, stuff you Mal and bring back Bernie.3 points

Yep, the first incident was stupid but harmless. Perhaps it should've been fine territory. The second incident should've been play on. Report was ridiculous. That he got 2 weeks is red hot. That many of you are patronising/bagging Bernie is in my opinion worse. He shut down Sloan super effectively on the night and is a required player and loyal servant for this club. Can't believe some of the commentary here. It's unfortunate to say the least.3 points

It's nothing like the critiquing of Jack Watts. Hogan is 2 games back from a cancer battle on the back of losing his Father from cancer. To think his own supporters can't cut him some slack on the back of that is astonishing to me.3 points

Means nothing if we miss the finals, which are very important for this group going forward. Even if we lose by 100 in the first week, we need the experience of the lead up and pressure of finals football.2 points

Cornes is a F-wit and accused him of playing up injuries, him walking in there like that is a good slap to his face in a funny way. Dangerfield is a great player, there is no doubt about it, Geelong would be screwed without him.2 points

Agree the MRP is a farce, but I'm pizzed with Bernie, he's let the whole club down!2 points
