how many season defining victories must a team have before the season is actually defined......21 points
-
Too many NQR players in this game. I overestimated the ability of the likes of White and Wagner to plug gaps. All the footsoldiers struggled. Bugg, the less said the better. Viney out really hurt, and will hurt. It's disappointing the be so comprehensively outplayed, but we weren't going to go the whole season without losing again. If we were going to have this game, it might as well be against the rampaging Swans, at the end of 4 games in 18 days, with a third of our best side out, including our two skippers and our three best forwards. We dust ourselves off and get on with it I think. And hopefully get a few footballers back soon.19 points

Who you ask? What is 'The Cage'? http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/teams/melbourne/strength-and-conditioning-coach-rob-jackson-has-helped-transform-the-demons/news-story/f5baa806b3494026410636dd56033611 For those that can't get past the pay wall, Jackson is Misson's 2IC and 'The Cage' is his private gym "... an off-site sanctuary for the Dees and part of his house." Terrific insight into building an AFL footballer. Player specifics: Viney - King of the gym (no surprise there). "At stages the Demons had to pull Viney out of the gym, teaching him he also had to be able to run". Tyson and Jackson made a pact two years ago to train every Christmas before any festive hams are carved. Hunt - tips the scales at 85kg after dropping his puppy fat Billy Stretch - told to bulk up Oliver - finished his TAC Cup season a porky midfielder clueless when it came to nutrition. Jordan Lewis, at 30, replaced 1.5kg of fat with 4kg of muscle in his first red and blue summer. (now that was a surprise and credit to him for accepting the clubs regime after coming from one of the best) Nathan Jones weighs less now than when I got to the club, but is lifting heaps more.” The most athletic Demon? Recruit Joel Smith. Merge Smith’s athleticism with Viney’s strength and you get Christian Petracca, the explosive monster Defender Sam Frost could live in a buffet restaurant and you wouldn’t know it. Tyson, Tom McDonald, Mitch King and Daisy Pearce are among the regulars at The Cage, where they can blow off extra steam. Its no wonder our development was so bad and we couldn't run out games - when Misson arrived he was the only person, now there are seven in the department. Another of PJ's achievements in correctly resourcing the footy department.15 points

Got my seat on the forward flank in the members. My Dad died nearly two years ago- I miss him tonight. A big game- we didn't get to do that together much since 2006. (Yep we were at the western oval that day in 1987, and the finals that followed.) This is the first year since then that I have felt such a build. GO DEES.9 points

Wow i must be the only one who thinks Danger is an absolute [censored] of the highest order. Loves bathing in his own water and whats worse is we'll have to hear him more after he retires because he is the channel 7 golden child along with Hamish, Darcy and BT. Has too much to say in the media and needs to focus on playing and keeping his mouth shut.8 points

Looking forward to tonight's game, and although I love a close game when we win, that Collingwood game 3 weeks ago and again last week, has drained me.I feel like I should be omitted for mental fatigue, however i figure if I start drinking shortly,I just may be able to cope when tonight comes.Self employed and can't get of my backside to do anything today because of anticipation of the game tonight.I might ring myself and call in sick. Garlett Jones Salem Hogan Watts Viney for half the game 4 games in 18 days Travelling across the country. Was always going to happen. If anything, I am surprised we did so well in keeping them to just 6 goals. Watts, Garlett, Hogan back in 9 days after a good rest. The hardest part of our season is done and we came out of it 4-1. Not fussed at all about tonight, we all knew it would happen, Bugg, yeah disappointing, the leadership group will speak to him about that but take the good with the bad with a player like him, he is an antagoniser and will overstep the mark like that at times. We are still 6th and will still be in the 8, the worst loss of the year ant it's only 35 points against last years premiership runners up and our Casey squad. Go Demons, we are still one of the top 4-5 teams in the comp but you can only do so much.7 points

Name one club, other than GWS, that could cover the injuries we've had to this point? I'll answer for you - none. It has nothing to do with depth issues, it has everything to do with losing a host of key players, not to mention others like Brayshaw and AVB who could easily slot into the side as well.6 points

Injuries caught up with us today - nothing to be ashamed of. Last years grand finalists would always be a bridge too far with no Jones, Hogan, Watts, Garlett, Salem etc Maybe the guys have been enjoying drinking their own bath water too - either way, it's a mid season reality check. Perhaps Trengove will add to this AFL games tally after all?!6 points

At least with so many injuries if we are lose it won't be because of where I am sitting in the lounge room or what Melbourne gear I'm wearing. What does everyone else change if we are losing? If we are winning none of the family are allowed to move6 points

huh? It's not hard. Was a guy, is now a girl. He is now she. This is not confusing in the slightest. It's not like she's an owlkin listing her pronouns on Tumblr and biting off your head when you don't know to use 'phe' or something. Having a go at a media personality who can't make a simple change like swapping a pronoun is valid in my book. Just because you can't deal with something so simple doesn't mean others can't, or that the 'political correctness' boogeyman is to blame and will lead to the downfall of society.6 points

I am enjoying my 59th birthday today and hope to celebrate with a melbourne win at the mcg tonight. I will be very nervous and toey when I grt on the train to go to the mcg. I will be going to the Lindsay Hassett room before the game for a nice meal and a couple of beers. It is great to be back on the big stage tonight. CARN THE DEMONS.6 points

There are any number of reasons why we could / should lose tonight, but I'm not having a bar of any of them! My reasoning: our midfield can match their main strength (which is hardness around the contest), and Max will give us first use more often than not; our pace will get them on the outside; we have the flexibility / options to nullify their game style and key playmakers; our resolve will wear them down. Credit where it's due. Well done Saty. It's posters like you who watch and analyse training who make Demonland valuable to those of us who can't get to training. The one comment above which is yet to be fulfilled is Hunt playing forward tonight. But given your strike rate, I now expect that to be the case.6 points

This guy has his head screwed on and feet firmly planted on the ground. The way he departed Adelaide was all class; leaving Judd, Ablett and to a lesser extent, the young pressured Scully in his wake. Didn't lie. Didn't ask clubs to present to him when his mind was made up. Just didn't treat the fan like a moron. Judd thinks he has a PhD on life, so difficult for Judy not to treat anyone like a moron actually. Paddy could have got 1.5k a year, but prioritised family, heart and team success to accept 60% of his worth. Danger's comments that supported the trans-gender community, squarely aimed at Newman and the carcass that is the Footy Show, was so accurate, that it flustered the unusually unflappable Newman. Dangerfield' view of footballers walking media street and separating it from onfield events is so refreshing and un-Paganesque in an era of the media and fans investing in their (players) huge and well-deserved rewards. He is so unlike the SEN simpleton. He thinks with clarity and courage. He gets a seat at my hypothetical last supper, with PJK, Roosy, Wallet, Julia Eileen, Ben Lexcen, Bevo, Rossy Lyon, Bruce McAvaney, BT (MC), Springsteen, Turnbull, Elvis, Lennon, and JFK. The guy with the PhD and his trophy superficial wife can get take away. (I withdraw this last line as I do not know them personally, and just went on the basis of a potentially flawed but usually correct perception) TGR dips his lid.5 points

Really thought the the biggest loss we had was Salem. We missed his calmness and silky skills.5 points

Its a Bugg problem. He did the wrong thing and has taken account. Primarily the club needs to do the best thing for the club. This is the best thing for the club. Bugg did the wrong thing, and he had to face the music. You can't reward Bugg for this by protecting him. We have a whole list to think of. That list doesn't need to distraction of T.Bugg. Now the spotlight is firmly on Bugg and not MFC. Well played by whoever allowed Bugg to get interviewed.5 points

I think I'll agree to disagree. He committed a dumb act on the footy field. Let's not parade him through the main street. He'll cop a penalty and pay the price. That's how it works.5 points

Hope he gets 5+. I hate watching dog acts like that even if they are from Demons. If the boogt was on the other foot I'd be livid.5 points

IMO their 6 straight losses has shocked them into playing half-decent football. They still have winners across the ground that get them over the line but the thing is the game and league has passed them by. That's not to say they are finished and can still very well make finals. But they are on edge atm. Would love to finish off their season tonight. Just wish we were meeting them in better circumstances with a 7-day break and fewer injuries. Such is life. Go Dees.4 points

Season will be un-defined if we get absolutely pumped. Trying desperately to shake the MFCSS, but it's hard.... :-/4 points

I reckon our season has been defined. Competitive since the first game, and have gone up a gear in the last month. Notwithstanding our injuries, I'm confident for this game. That doesn't mean I think we're certainties, just that our best is good enough and I know they'll bring it. This is the two form sides of the competition, battling it out at the G in prime time. Can't wait.4 points

I could not be bothered booing Houli. His character referees actually highlighted his lack of character. A .The PM saying nice things about him in order to get votes from an ethnic/ religious minority.A videoclip showing the granting of govt funding by Mal. This was done without asking the office of the PM. B.Waleed Aly ,known for his ability to confuse a situation and criticise society for invisible slights inflicted upon him.Gob for hire. Luckily the afl saw through this charade. Jed Lamb is still ill. In August,Houli can get back to playing mediocre footy in the race to achieve 9th on the ladder for the worst run club in the AFL. Anyone who "boos" Basher can go for their life- it's not a crime to boo a player in a sports stadium yet. As with Goodes, it doesn't achieve much but a maelstrom of supposition on why people boo other people in a 24 hr sports media starving for a debate on society at large. If Houli is roundly booed Im assuming it's because of the way his case was handled and that people booing don't like him. Boo hoo.Too bad.So sad.4 points
