rumour has it that Frawley is waiting for Damian Barrett's report on today's scan before deciding his future18 points

A stress reaction is effectively a 'pre-fracture' for want of a better description. If it is post-traumatic, as from a knee in the back, then it is a 'bruising' to the bone. If it is from repetitive action, such as forces related to running, then it indicates a focus of increased and adverse load in a part of the bone. I'm assuming that the reports of him suffering it in last week's game are true, so therefore bruising. That should mean he comes good sooner rather than later. 2 to 3 weeks is entirely possible, and likely.16 points

If a bloke that has never played an AFL game misses a couple of weeks, and from that our season is derailed, then it was derailed before it began. Sure I'd love him to be fit and firing, but he's still a boy with a lot of learning and footy ahead of him,14 points

What would Mahoney know? I won't believe anything unless I hear it from Barrett or Denham.12 points

What, they haven't put the scans on Instagram yet? As a paid up member I demand the right to make my own diagnosis!9 points

Get a frigging grip. A few injuries to key forwards = all our key forwards out for the whole year = Frawley gone. I worry about the condition of minds that automatically infer the worst possible scenario on a slither of information.6 points

Settle down people this is players body we are talking about. He has to get a scan and in to see a specialist before a proper prognosis is made. Even then some times you can't make any comment until a repeat appointment or scan once inflammation has settled. The media can just report whatever they like about 'some kind of stress fracture' and 'some swelling'. The club has to think of the player not just fans. Also they can't create mass hysteria every time a player has some soreness. Geelong have been a completely closed shop under Neil Balme and it hasn't stopped them winning games.6 points

Its not such a big thing that Jesse Hogan will be eased in as 19 year old. It just makes the complete inability of Clark and Dawes to hit the park even more frustrating.5 points

Even if there is a fracture, it isn't a stress fracture. They were pretty clear on the FS segment that he copped a knee in the back during the game and this is where the concern is. Obviously they were getting scans on it today to see if it's anything more than bruising, hence the tweets about waiting on the results. For all I know DB may have fluked one and there is actually some structural damage, but my take is that he found out about the scans and added a worst-case spin to make a story out of nothing. We all know that his strike rate is somewhere below 25% on these so-called news segments. This is simply another case of him being an obnoxious little troll trying to bignote himself by making a sensational claim on very little evidence.5 points

Very disappointing to have the three big fella's out with no definite return dates it appears on any of them however.. We basically played all year last year with none of the three. Our conversion once inside 50 was good we just couldn't get it in there. We now appear to be well coached and must improved with a bunch of new midfielders who appear to know how to get the ball and likely get it in there alot more. We have a very good early 5 games that we should be able to put up strong efforts and convert minimum 2 -3 into wins regardless of having them. We then should target to get the three big fellas back when they are completely fit with least likely risk to re-injury and with the strongest chance to play consecutive games for the remainder of the year. Particularly when we need them most in the harder patch of the year.4 points

lol, it's not that we ignore it, it's just that we've heard it so many times before from the club we know to filter it out as irrelevant.4 points

no stuie you are now changing the goal posts you claimed that the afl media centre represented the official afl position and that the afl approved their content wrong - no cigar for you4 points

I just watched the segment a few times and Barrett is clearly layering on the mayonnaise. He may have received confirmation from the club that Hoges has a back issue but his elaborations are totally unfounded.4 points

I call BS on his story for two very good reasons. First, his claim of stress fractures caused by a knee to the back is clearly incorrect. http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00112 Secondly, if he has a source, he says so. While he will never admit to not having spoken to someone in the club, if he has he will give us a "sources in the club" line. The only thing he attributes to the club is the following: Added to this is the fact that it has been six days since the match finished and they are only now getting his back looked at. Indeed he was in sufficiently good health that only hours ago he was named in the squad for Saturday's match. Thus my assessment of his report. I believe that Hogan has a back injury caused by a knee to the back. I believe it is severe enough to warrant them ordering scans. I do not believe that Barrett has a source within the club's coaching and medical staff who has told him that there are fractures. I do not believe that Stress Fractures are going to form in the space of a week due to a knee in the back. I'll add the obvious also. Besides being highly inaccurate, the use of the term "stress fracture" is clearly a scare tactic to make things seem worse. Fans accept that impact injuries occur. If a knee to the back caused a fractured vertebrae we would be upset about the bad luck but shrug it off as the sort of injury you get in an impact sport. Stress fracture on the other hand implies an underlying fault. To the fans, the term means a player may never play again, that there may be some issue which will cause this to recur endlessly until the club is forced to let them go. Again, it's a hack trick trying to make more of a story than actually exists.4 points

Amazing how many of you turn so quickly from frothing at the mouth, dying to see Hogan play to 'oh, we weren't really going to see him much this year anyway'. Seriously, just admit you're as [censored] off as the rest of us that he won't be running out in Round 1 and save us all this 'that's just footy' rubbish.3 points

A bit of optimism OD, a lot has changed, we have a few who have managed a full pre season, and even I admit a lot better coaching throught that period, and 4 important things have changed Vince, Cross, Tyson and Michie3 points

If this article is correct Hogan was/is having scans today. If he hasn't had scans yet how on earth could DB or anyone else for that matter jump to the conclusion that he has fractures. Please.3 points

SEN did not just report that as you said I heard the entire interview and they discussed a number of things about the Dees including Hogan having a back injury, which Denham had no information on. They also discussed free agency and the bigger clubs doing well out of it, KB said Melbourne did okay in picking up players they managed to lure Clark they done well there. Denham made comment about the large amount he was being paid and he believed Melbourne were not reporting how serious the injuries that Dawes and Clark were carrying. He said Dawes he thinks has a degenerative knee while Melbourne are saying Clark has hamstring problems but he thinks his foot is not right. So if you were flogged on the website for what you posted last year it's probably more to do with the way you portrayed it. SEN just reported is a lot different to , Greg Denham just said. KB said nothing about the injuries at all and it was fairly clear to me that Denham was rehashing stuff he had read while trolling through demonland3 points

It is. NASA scientists have detected a reduction in size of the upper atmosphere of 0.327542 cm since Barrett made the announcement on TFS last night.3 points

It's all very well to get uppity about these things but the proof of the pudding is in the eating and at the moment Clark and Dawes are not even training with the main group let alone looking like playing any time soon. From the start of preseason we were told the objective was to get these guys ready for round 1. Dave Misson's reports have always said they are going "well" but the reality is they continue to be "no shows". I'm starting to think these guys are very marginal conveyances. I hope I'm wrong but the fact is the club has given us great hope over injured players who just continue to be sidelined. Clark, Dawes, Jamar, Gawn, Garland and now perhaps Hogan. You can't blame people for feeling let down and you can't blame them for questioning what is coming from the club. The reality is over preseason it feels like we've been fed bulldust.3 points

Prepared to wait for the club's official announcement on this, however if true, the one positive for me is that this appears to be from a collision injury and not from a breakdown of his body from over training. The latter would suggest a potential ongoing fragility, the former, just something that happens in footy.3 points

Of course I'd rather he played than didn't, but it's not reach into the bottom draw for the revolver time, no matter what some might think. More important than the forwards is having mids that work for and trust each other, Jones, Vince, Cross or Tyson missing 6 weeks would worry me more than Clark. Dawes or Hogan.3 points

It is a real shame he won't play but what did people, who think we are now doomed, believe Hogan was capable of in his first year? If Howe goes down - touch wood - that would effectively shut down our forward line. I look at our cherry ripe midfield and am confident that disaster will be averted - that's where it' starts and ends for us this year.3 points

Really???? Dont now why the club would wait till they were properly informed to report things to you. I am surprised JP and Roosy dont have you on speed dial. I am sure you have all the answers.3 points

Is it time for the players association to look into how these reporters are getting the results of any medical tests that are conducted on any player as surely medical results are supposedly medical in confidence also after hearing about hogan just glad no high bridges in Adelaide3 points

That is utter bull. It should be illegal to "report" like that. Cannot believe they get away with this sort of [censored]. Journalism standards are so bloody poor it is ridiculous.3 points

I'm glad our fate rests with a zero gamer. Jeepers, it's footy, blokes get hurt. Do you hear the cats sooking about vardy? Harden up, we will figure this out. Go Dees3 points

Clark, then Dawes and now Hogan. Ok, i'm actually reasonably calm about this…3 points

What if there's nothing to report? Would you prefer they announce today that he is having scans and may have back stress fractures, only to say tomorrow that they jumped the gun and it is only bruising..? (Besides the obvious result being different). Some people just don't think.3 points

At risk of breaching the old rule about not arguing with fools, Watts is a very good pack mark up forward and an equally good floating backman. I did get it right. People call him a soft [censored] because he often looks like he is being lazy and doesn't lay a great tackle, which is a completely different issue.2 points

So Saty chatted to Hogan after training and he was actually getting a massage from Mark Neeld and Chris Connolly because they are great blokes when Cam Schwab walked in and tripped over Liam Jurrah who was just siting down after doing some training for his comeback to AFL. Schwab trying to get his balance dropped the projector he was carrying to film whiteboard wednesday that landed on Hogan's back and caused him some pain. Dr Bates is going to arrange for Steve Dank to supply some AOD cream and he should be right for round 1. It's all in the past and no one is to blame so we should move on.2 points

At this rate Georgiou will play more career games for the MFC then Hogan Clark and Dawes combined.2 points
