It’s Game Day, and the Demons return to the MCG wounded, undermanned and desperate.

Still searching for their first win of the season, Melbourne faces a daunting task against the Fremantle Dockers. With key pillars missing at both ends of the ground, the Dees must find a way to rise above the adversity and ignite their season before it slips way beyond reach.

Will today be the spark that turns it all around, or are we staring down the barrel of a 0–6 start?

Simon has changed his jocks and socks and the forward 50. I will be interested to see what he has changed when it comes to his match day coaching.

Seems to me we have been going backwards since he was on the boundary with Yze upstairs.

I am not confident.

Head says Dockers… heart always says the Dees.

1 hour ago, whatwhat say what said:

If we’re within 10 goals at half time it’s almost a win

The fact is, if we lose by ten goals, we end up 18th

We’re rubbish again.

Freo will feast on us

If it’s less than 50 point loss I’ll be surprised

Don't see how we win this, especially with the outs. Hopefully there are a few positives to take out of it and we can build on the past couple of weeks (in whatever shape or form that might take).

Will be good to see the 4 horseman of the apocalypse together for the first time, though they're all a bit underdone.

Some condescending/2013/ Mark Neeld like KPI’s that we could achieve today.

  1. Win one quarter

  2. Keep Freo to under 100 points.

  3. Kick more goals than behinds for the second time in the last 9 games.

  4. Reduce the uncontested possession differential from 80 of the last 2 games down to 40.

  5. Ensure every quarter has a pressure rating score of at least 170. 160 is apparently unacceptable and what we dished up in 2 quarters last week.

  6. Try your very very best. Strip it back to junior footy where the player that puts in the greatest effort gets a McDonalds voucher.

If all 6 points fail, for crying out loud, let’s keep the margin under 90 so at least we can avoid the bottom of the ladder/Essendon pick 1 territory.

Expecting us to get thumped but I'll be there regardless.

This is last chance saloon for our mids, Serong and Brayshaw have torched us with their two way running for a number of encounters now.

I expect we’ll be chasing tail all day (again)

As bad as side as I can remember us selecting under Goodwin. Almost every player is either underdone, lacking form and confidence or completely out of their depth.

Combine that with a coach who has completely lost the plot, and what could possibly go wrong?

The worst thing that could happen today is another uninspiring 5-6 goal loss with brief glimpses of basic competency that will allow the club to keep on pretending that all is well, so nothing will change.

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit, of all the years for my daughter to want to go to the footy every week. I'm expecting us to get completely torched so anything outside of that will be a relief. If I was Goodwin I'd be ringing Longmuir and asking him to go easy.

I'm in the same boat here with my 6 year old son. He has no memory of the premiership 😭. We've been a few times this year so far and he doesn't mind when we lose so that's made it a bit easier...as long as we go outside for regular kicks of the footy at each break! 😁

I'm going to the match too ... with my daughter. Not child cruelty because she's 27 ...and it was her idea!!

Re the match itself. What could possibly go wrong?

Agreed. He’s selected a forward line that simply won’t win an AFL game against anyone.

I’m fully aware of what could happen today, but I refuse to get smothered by all this negativity around the team and the coaches. I know, more fool me, but again I think we will storm home to get close, and maybe, just maybe, a small win.

Going with two Carlton supporters and a Collingwood supporter today. All very into their football and with great insight. I am genuinely very interested to see what they make of us.

You'd almost give Goodwin a contract extension if we get within 5 goals!

dont go with them mate just dont

Even when we were playing well, you'd have been feeling nervous with both May and Lever not playing. There's always 2026.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.
