Not as simple as this. He fared terribly last year with an extended break.

A mighty effort from Clarry to overcome a horrible personal time, on top of a mountain of injuries, to play all but 3 games!

It's not a binary argument.

Clarry has had a disappointing season.  Part bad luck and part bad preparation.

Bad luck you can't do much about.  He deserves criticism for the latter.  He is paid a lot of money to be a pro, and his actions have contributed to a failed season.

I would expect that the club, his team-mates and hopefully Clarry himself are unhappy with his behaviour.

I still believe that we can have another crack at a flag with the current group of stalwarts and emerging group of young stars,  We will need everything to go right, a professional approach will be a good start.

I've been very critical of Clarry's performances

If he's carrying 3 injuries it explains the big drop off.

You have to question the club's injury management processes here. why would you be playing him with these injuries? Pert's review should have a strong focus on this area of the FD. This playing through pain/injury mantra needs to be reconsidered imv.

Good move, it's so silly to send him out there injured and at the mercy of the rabid media that are out to pile on the MFC at every opportunity, get him right so he can have a full pre-season and get back to his best next year. 

if we have a fully fit Trac and Oliver next year we will be back into the finals mix well and truely.

Players are rightfully judged by their output once they take the field.

More often than not Oliver has been a liability, not to mention being terribly out of shape.

Oliver should have been mothballed by the club weeks ago.  They've done him no favours.

And not only that, clearly struggled rehabbing his hammy in terms of, for the first time in his career, not having the structure and routine playing each week provides.

By all accounts he is working very hard on his wellbeing and has a good formal support network in place.

I have little doubt part of the thinking behind not getting his hand sorted was ensuring he had the structure of playing each week in place.

And the reality is a 70% clarry is better than any other option we had.

(Though he looked closer to 50% in the second half against port so good time to swap him out).

A liability? Only compared with his former top form.  Who did we have to replace him? Mothballed weeks ago when we still had a chance at finals?   Most you can say he should have gone last weekend.

What are you talking about?

Most of us knew about the hand injury but how bad it was is anyone's guess ...  but most of us had no idea about the Knee PCL or the fractured ribs

I can't blame anyone for questioning Clarrie's form.  But the information with all his ailments was unknown (for most)

Knee and Ribs were incidents from weekends game. This has been confirmed by Selwyn.

Garry Lyon said last week that Clayton’s hand is virtually unusable, and then this week said that the club made the decision to keep him on the park, as all parties concluded it was the best thing for the club, and for Clayton’s mental health.

He’s been very loyal, and so have we. I think that suggests a really productive period coming up for Clayton, once he gets his body right.

Didn't Oliver have rib injuries earlier in the season?  And now that we're absolutely out of the running for finals,  they call time on Oliver?  

If I was to hazard a guess as to what the issues are at the club it could be that we're asking our players (or certain players) to play through the pain barrier too much

I could be totally wrong but something is amiss at the club.  So what is it?

Did you even listen to Goodwin's press conference? Clayton had to have the plate in for 12-14 weeks to allow support for healing and now that times is up so he's had the surgery to have it out.

He had a bad injury and had surgery on it. What else were the club supposed to do?

We don't know what the ongoing issues are but it may well be that the plates themselves need removing.

Clayton’s one wood is his hands. Big reason for little impact.
