Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

POSTGAME: Rd 03 vs Port Adelaide

The entire team came to run along the boundary high-fiving after the match. Ricky Lever though! He went rogue, ran ahead of the others, let loose with a guttural scream that lasted for ages, excitedly waving his arms, absolutely whipping us into a frenzy. It was nuts!!!

Admittedly not Goodwin’s biggest fan, but from watching his press conference after the game, I love that he backs himself in 100% of the time. He leaves no room for doubt, which must help the playing group and their own confidence.

Self-belief is an amazing thing. After all the 💩 he has had to put up with from the media and former board members, it’s time they give him his due credit.

The late body hit from behind on Butters or Rozee after they kicked it that turned into the down field kick was it in the second?

If thats what they're referring to then nothing to worry about.

Those 2 are from the Joel Selwood school of ducking and absolute stain on the game.

They paint the goal-line so that back of it lines up with the back of the post including the padding.

Therefore a ball that has entirely crossed the goal-line, has also gone past the back of the post.  To hit the post after that point, the ball needs to be blown back by a gale or it needs to be spinning such that a part of the ball goes back to hit the post e.g. a helicopter kick or "one around the corner".

Ok thanks that makes sense.  I stand corrected ✌🏼

Loved that win. Very professional and played with a lot of passion.

A very solid team performance with exceptional games for a number of our leaders. Max was excellent. Dominated the ruck, worked hard around the ground and kicked a massive goal when required. ANB, Petracca, Viney and Ben Brown were all at their best with ANB the pick of the bunch.

There were more than a few that had the forks stuck into Ben and Tom last season and also this pre-season. Bit of humble pie to feast on for them.

Defence:

Hibberd retired at the end of last season, May injured, Bowey injured..... there are a lot of reasons to think that we would have lost an edge back there but the structure of this team within a team works just so well. Petty started back there and then the Goodwin moved him forward. I scratched my head over that but the rest of the defence had the three talls in Port's forward line well covered. We even had the ability to have Salem in the middle with Hore and Howe, both relatively inexperienced, working well in the back 50. I found Howe in particular impressed. McVee and Rivers were more than solid.

Midfield:

A pretty even contest in this area of the ground with our boys shading the Port mids. I thought that in the last quarter when the game was there to be won, our midfield really stood up. Best game I have seen from ANB and I think he has had more than a few good games in the past. Langdon finding form and Windsor just great for a kid of his age and experience. As I said above, Max was close to BOG. a battle with ANB.

Forwards:

How Ben can play like that with all those forks stuck in him is unbelievable. Great to see him celebrate and smile. I also liked his interview with Windsor after the match. The rest of the forwards took their opportunities and you really cannot fault them. We kicked 15.4 for the match and I think 2 of those behinds were posters.

A good 4points to have and it might just be an 8 point win by the end of the season as I think Port will go very well this season.

A couple of other points:

The TV shots of the Port supporters were priceless. I have seen beaten up old bulldogs with better looking heads and I loved Fristch giving them heaps after his goal.

Second point is one that has been raised on here with regard to Brereton. He really is a wordy pompous fool. Went on about Port and their players all night and directly after the game immediately raised the point of the projected scores showing that Port should have won. Trying to claim the English cricket team's mantle of cheer leader for 'moral victories'.

I see we easily dispatched Hawthorn last week.

Anyhoooooo. Another 4 points and a smile on my face.

That's the one.  He just round arm slapped him to the hip and may have knocked some wind outta him.

About 2 outta 10 vs the Pendles open palm to the guts/heart.  A small fine at worst.

Ditto on that.

Thought this match was right up there as well and a major catalyst which built the momentum / belief for our run into the 2023 finals campaign...

Wow !!! I'm still buzzing. (It's 5.45 am)

Demon Army ... you were awesome too.

FWIW I ended up watching the match at the Terminus Hotel in Abbotsford. We (4 of us) were the only ones in the upstairs section. But made so much noise it would have sounded like 40!!

Go Dees !!!

I’ve not read this thread in its entirety and I’ve yet to watch the replay, but there was talk in the cheer squad of the likelihood of Fritta being cited. I don’t even know to what incident they were referring. Wondering if this is a thing.

Mid way through the 4th quarter he did a late bump on Rozee from behind. It was paid as a downfield free kick and Rozee did look like he had some wind knocked out.

When I saw the replay it didn’t look too bad. More body on body and a bit towards the side and back. A second later I think it would be more of an issue, but I would be surprised if he was suspended for it.

And sorry to be a downer, but I thought Hore really struggled. Was often the man in the hole and only got it right once in the second quarter.

I wouldn't play May against Adelaide, but if we do, Hore definitely comes out for May.

Needs to improve his tackling fast

I'm going to be honest and admit I didn't think we had a snowball s chance in hell of winning yesterday.

I've said it before but this time I mean it.....

I will never write this club off in a game.

I don't know if a petty did much up fwd but the game seemed to have changed when he went there.

Anb is an star of the game.

Tmac is back.

Bbb isn't bad for a bloke on one knee.

There were so many wow goals but I'll go with Caleb Windsor's one.

A win for the ages.

Can't wait to watch the replay.

I had nightmares over them.

No wonder the umps levelled thing up.

#Bbo said he wasn't sure if it was a crowd shot or a scene from the living dead spliced in.

Yes it can as part of the post is behind the goal line.  The goal line runs through the middle of the post yes?

In a word, no.

This topic is all over the internet with people bringing up different scenarios involving wind, spin, bounce, padding, post, flags and line.
But in all of the images I’ve found of AFL goal lines, the back of the goal line is in line with the back of the post. (Not so on junior footy grounds.) Although someone might argue parallax error, a millimeter of paint or padding to promote their own contrary view.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
