PSV have always had a great scouting network and being owned by Philips used to trade for some of the best young overseas talent with electrical equipment and white goods. When the original Ronaldo ended up in Eindhoven (aka The City of Light) a set of floodlights went the other way to Brazilian side Cruzeiro.

Your tracksuit story is better though.

Tony Cascarino was the man. to Gillingham in 1982. Back when the irish team was made up of any bloke with an irish granny

The Gills? I never knew he played for the Pikey Army. I figured it had to have been a transfer between two LOI teams. People wear tracksuits to weddings and funerals in that part of west Kent (the term chav relates to the town of Chatham right next door) so they would hold a bit of currency there.

Cascarino ended up having quite a good career although he didn't have any impact at Celtic. Probably as it was slap bang in the middle of our 9 in a Row years.

Flynn is an established ruck who would have been a good get but is more suited to the first ruck role

Fullarton hasn’t had as much exposure at AFL level but is more suited to the second ruck / ruck-forward role that we need

So overall I’d say he’s a better fit and has a lot of scope for development

Well, that seems a little bit inconsistent with him requesting a trade to us.

Give him 2 brutal Melbourne winters and we'll see.

Tom Fullarton would help fill one of the glaring holes in our current list and he has nominated MFC as his destination club. No doubt JT and TL have been keeping an eye on him and have convinced him that we have a role for him at the Dee’s.!!

Useless question you ask !!

We don't have Flynn any way so move on. TF is a Far better prospect and can play CHF and/or FF far better, ruck adequately and is 5 years younger.

Did WC know how good Josh Kennedy was before they had him traded in the Judd deal ? No and TF is in his prime at 23/24 years to blossom in the big time on the big stage as a forward/ruck graduate in the Gawn school of footy.

But seriously he has much more cred than Schache and starts with a blank canvas. He hasn't been harmed up forward at Brisbane under JoeD  and Hippy yet so he can freewheel into town with no scars and a big open mind to show what he's got for us in the big time.

I am genuinely pleased and well a bit excited at the prospect of a 200cm forward joining our ranks at the prime time of a career for a big KP/ ruck player perhaps for a second/third round ( possibly No 39 for JJ).

What's the story about candy and babies? Who cares he's our baby now for Chocco to finish off his apprenticeship and provide some candy that's far better than a Shacky out of ol' Brisbane town.

Let the Olympic ( I mean AFL) games begin in 2024 and hopefully go thru to 2032 for TF.  Well he won't outlast Dan's career but surely Anastasia's by a decent way!

PS we have a new Tommy in town to replace our old and worn out Tmac tractor and BBB machine with a bit of ruck craft to boot.

Cheers Dees!! ( Hope these words don't raise false hopes ) Oh and TF please don't let me down!
No pressure!!

There is no such position. It was a gross mistake Josh should have been on in the third quarter taking T Macs place.

Judging on those highlights posted earlier in this thread he is exactly what we need. Hope he can translate those talents from VFL to AFL and with a full Demons pre-season ahead at age 23/24 (or whatever) he could be a huge acquisition with massive upside.

Or not, who knows! It’s up to the Dees to bring it out of him

I think he will be a complete miss.Plays with even less aggression than Schache and lacks his forward nous . His only significant asset is his height , Would have most likely been  delisted by Brisbane .A future fourth round at best.

Based on some brisbane forum posts, they are not upset to lose this guy. He is a 'tall who plays small' type, gets goals out the front of the pack instead of clutching big marks.

wow - sounds like one that we can all get very excited about in 2024 😲

I for one think you might be being a touch harsh - but if he does join us let's all get behind him and hope he surprises you

Fullerton is a free hit imv. He should be cheap $ and has some ability to relieve Gawn when needed. I think we give up a future 3rd round (or 4th) to the Lions who  want points next year to pickup Levi Ashcroft.

From the words of the great man himself

“Cal Twomey expects a future-third round selection to be enough to satisfy Brisbane in the Tom Fullarton deal”

Unless both Tomo and Brown are retiring, the Schache 1 year extension looks necessary. Better option than an NQR like Shaq, Chol or Lobb as this guy still has a chance of turning the corner at 24.

Asking for a friend - how old was Max in his breakout game at KP??  I would have thought 24 +/- 1

Pretty much.  I'd put it at that 2015 Vs Geelong at Kadinia Park win, where he dominated that he really started to stamp himself on the comp, which probably didn't really consistently get going until the following years 2016 / 2017 so that puts him precisely 23 - 25

Agree that it's probably a good age range to recruit a ready made ruck that still has some years ahead of them.  Probably also allows our 19/20yo developing rucks some time to develop their bodies and as players without being thrown in out of their depth.

Yep that's the one, round 12. 19 disposals, 44 hitouts, 1 goal 1 behind

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
