Good small forwards don’t expect or need balls delivered on a silver platter.  They create chances, take advantage of half chances, find a way to get involved in the game. Spargo doesn’t do any of that nearly enough. 7 seasons in he’s not improving his numbers. Can’t keep carrying low possession forwards who don’t kick goals.

Charlie’s not an opportunist goal kicker, although when given an even chance he can do that.

He’s a link player that relies on other parts of the chain working together. If every player in our side had the attacking work rate, smarts and skills of Spargo we’d hum the ball from end to end.

Not saying he’s a walk up start in the side either, but if we want to play faster, cleaner more expansive football that scores more we need him fighting for a spot. 

I expect he’ll bounce back next year the same way Nibbler did in 2021.

Clearly we hoped BBB and Tom Mac would be ok until the end of their contracts next year and that Schache would somehow improve from his disclosed AFL form.

i've been the biggest lobb hater since his giants days, he was always a better ruckman than forward but ego/sooking from his part made him a forward.

if he came on the remaining 2yr deal he has but WBD subsidised i'd do it. you're offering something like pick 40, hear me out, hes the ruck/forward behind gawn who can play a role but isnt a total liability forward, he leaps and marks in packs (sometimes) but also at EOS 24, mcdonald brown schache all ooc all leave, so then lobb is extra important for the next 12-24 months after that as that squad depth reserve player assuming we either see jeffo come on and play or sign a big dog FF from elsewhere to take over the mantle (or a KPD to allow petty to stay fwd)

I'm not against Lobb.

Despite having a disastrous first season at the Dogs, he did manage to kick 10 of his 20 odd goals in the last 4 games including a 3 goal/15 possession/1 brownlow vote game in round 24. Imagine if we got that kind of output in the semi final compared to T Mac's 6 possession/1 hit out disaster of a game.

If nothing else he fills a need for 2 years as a goal kicking back up to Max while JVR can focus on being a forward. He can also be a cover for Petty who can't be relied upon to play 20+ games a year.

If one game is enough, we’re sweet with Ben Brown after his brownlow vote from Round 1.

One game is not nearly enough. Lobb has a persistent career pattern of inconsistency and poor effort. He’s no more a “goal kicking back up to Max” or “cover for Petty” than Schache, but triple the cost.

Just needs time and to stay together.  But our hand might be forced, If we had to trade Oliver, Larkey and Pick 2 from north or King and Pick 4 as starting points would be the only options I’d consider. McKay has to many flaws I’d not want to give what blues would demand

Interesting argument looking at the statistics in isolation. However, between Collingwood and Melbourne there is a stark contrast in how the ball is being delivered into the forward 50; their system suits forwards who are leading into space. Our system is different and I think requires a strong tall contested KPF to make it more effective.

Not really How do we know Lynch is going to be any better after his injury. Isn't he still in a moon boot?
