If he doesn't  get a serious  suspension it will be open slather on pretending  to smother and then knocking people out.

I'm not saying this was his intent ( but how do we really know) the fact remains Gus was stretchered off after a player launched into him like an f16.

We can never really know ones true intent but the results are irrefutable.

I suspect he intentionally turned his body to inflict damage but they'll argue he was in the air to smother then braced in a split second decision. He'll get off.

He can’t get off.

Head high.

High impact.

Thats 2 weeks.

Intentional or accidental is all that’s up for debate, so he gets 2-4 weeks. 2 weeks is the minimum possible outcome.

Fantastic he will miss a flag!

Going to leave the AFL community in mass confusion if Maynard gets cleared.

I get that it was a football incident rather an off the ball act of thuggery, but he could be held accountable for a severe impact.

Absolutely. Roo might only get one week, to stop the screaming after Maynard gets off.

One bloke unconscious, who has had a problem with concussions. The other victim jumps up and keeps playing.

Remember Kozzies 2 weeks for jumping up and bumping and Bailey Smith laughed.

Which team did Christian play for?

Agreed!

It was a dog act by Maynard.

He is a vile [censored]! 🤬🤬🤬

Confident the MRO will send it to the tribunal, he’ll cop a 3 week suspension by the tribunal and then the Pies will get him off on appeal.

Nothing surer.

Meanwhile we’re a key midfielder down next week.

MRO is a lottery. Who knows what they’ll decide

It's bloody obvious, especially after he turned his body to get the shoulder in the head and off the ground, shouldn't matter if it was the front.... so that won't mean anthing and he might get off.

I just hope Gus is alright.

I hate the argument it’s a football act, well so is tackling and if you get that wrong and knock someone out your gone this is no different

He’ll get off. Then we’ll get to hear all the Collingwood idiots praising his toughness.

Late

head high

severe impact

feet are off ground

duty of care - zero

The fact that the media interviewed that [censored] after the game to allow him the temerity to suggest what he did was a ‘footy act’ is [censored].

He rolled the right shoulder in, he had a choice, could have rolled left, guilty as don't care about post facto BS.

I can’t stand the pandering by TV media to the largest audience. It’s as if they think we are too thick to realise it’s happening.

It all comes down to duty of care - he showed none and head high plus high impact makes everything else redundant.  That's 2 weeks and that's all he needs to finish his season.

Yep, MRO may give it 2 weeks, Careless/High/High

But other similar ones got off, Cripps, Duncan

The only thing against Maynard is the shoulder turn, not the best look and not a move to avoid contact, moreso make it hurt.  But I thought Cripps was worse and he got off albeit after long appeal process

Him and cox are thugs out there to try hurt blokes and get away with  too much.

I think even Cox tried to.twist Petraccas ankle during a play where we has laying on the turf and for whatever reason hold Trac's leg and then put his weight on it. Luckily Trac was fine.

I hope we send in a harsh medical report with a long history of Gus’ concussion injuries, which are very clear to everyone.  That helmet is not a fashion statement.

I hope Gus will be ok. He was previously one head knock away from retirement.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
