I doubt we'll beat the Blues with Goodwins bomb it in territory gameplan,the Pies had 18 players inside our 50 waiting for the bombs all night and the Blues will do the same,We don't switch on until we are 4 goals down like against the Tigers and Swans,the Blues jumped the Swans in the first 10 minutes like the Pies did to us and the Blues will be on fire in the first quarter with their clearance game and it'll be all over.

 

AFL #14 scores per entry because we are coached not to use the corridor,Langdon could've hit up Viney in the centre circle with a Mcvee overlap but he kicks sideways to the boundary and the Pies set up defensively.

 

Goodwin's bomb it to the square at all costs doesn't work,Fritta had no space and our smalls didn't get near it.

Trac had 7 disposals in the first half

 

FFS pull your fingers out and switch on from the first bounce!!!

 

I guarantee we'll be down 4-5 goals at quarter time,then let's switch on try and win from there.

Come on guys , we can beat Carlton this week. Lets get on with it. We need to look forward. We are still alive.

Carlton will be missing Martin who was good last night and McKay, both from their forward line which gives us a chance to close them down and get the game on our terms (as they say). Cripps is as banged up as he could be . 

Pittonet and De Koning are a pretty good combo. We need Grundy in the side. TMac has to go out. Has to. He was very poor. Slow and if we try to play the same way he'll just look terrible one out down there. Have to play small and run the ball through the 50. Spargo must come in. I also think Carlton have a physically strong mid field. I think given how beat up Cripps is, yet still important for them, Harmes has the strength to match him. Cripps is also slow so should be able to be tagged by Harmes. In the Sydney game Mills and Cripps played on each other and it was a loss/ loss result. A nil all draw between Cripps and Harmes is a big win for us.

If Ben Brown could somehow pass a fitness test he could be risked.  But considering we're devoid of choices, his inclusion might be preferred to a left-field solution (albeit in a cut-throat SF)

Getting the gang back together again from '21? ... BBB, T-Mac, Fritsch, Kozzie, Gawn/(Grundy instead of Jackson)

With Petracca/ANB/Chandler or Spargo used in stints up forward

But it's a reach

Any other combo up forward (with available personnel) doesn't fill with confidence

Brayshaw out means we may not have the luxury of using Petracca forward in the way we'd like to use him forward

Our small forwards have been disappointing since start of 2022. 2021 the pressure and crumb from our small forwards was a huge part of the reason we went all the way. Long bombs into the forward line should be relying on our small forwards winning the ground ball after the contest but that hasn't happened. Collingwood swept up the footy time and again with minimal pressure and worked it out of defense.

Like almost everyone, I also said pre-game that our flag chances hinged on the QF, and our path to winning it now is significantly more difficult than a home prelim against Port/GWS. So in that regard, I agree, I think the loss is significantly destructive for our season.

He's not wrong though. We are starting down the barrel of back to back straight sets exits after never leaving the G! We won in 2021 with the rent-a-crowds riding us home, back at the G we've struggled to assert a home crowd/19th man even when playing interstate teams. This must have a psychological impact in the players.

That's an extremely simplistic view of things. People who were confident we would beat the Pies were proven to have every right to be confident considering the key stats not least of which being inside 50s and expected score. You're acting as though we could never have won on Thursday without a genuine kpf when clearly we could have.

I think he plays too and wasn’t as bad as some are suggesting. He made some real good leads and had 2-3 metres on his opponent and the ball just kept going in other directions. 
He worked really hard i thought.

I hope what i'm about to say makes sense! Because Collingwood had so few inside 50s and we had the ball in our forward half for the majority of the game without scoring goals (thereby resetting field positions with the 6-6-6 rule), it basically meant most of the time when we did go inside 50, it was already crowded and tons of opposition players were ready to spoil, with very little space/room to find a spare player by lowering the eyes. A more conventional game where the opposition has more of the ball in their half will enable us to transition easier and get it down to our forwards in one-on-one situations, or on the lead, rather than an overcrowded forward line. So whilst we had a crazy number of inside 50s on Thursday, most of them were repeat entries without space to do anything productive with, and high-level pressure applied because the Collingwood players were already there and not using their petrol tickets going back and forward on the field.

That being said, Carlton are a far better contest/clearance team. They will have far more inside 50s than Collingwood. As long as our backline holds up well, we can score far more from transition and make life easier for our forwards in one-out positions.

Curious how everyone is jumping off the dees. Collingwood didn’t win on Thursday night. Dees lost. Should have won by 3 goals. Brayshaw stretchered off after 5 minutes completely altered our game plan. Brayshaw allows trac to sit up forward and snag a few goals. That makes a 7 point loss into a 3 goal win. Maynard single handily killed it for us. Hope he rots inside for the rest of this Season

I was very upbeat and confident against the Filth. Ostensibly we have the "game" to do so. We still do. What we dont have is the finish.

We're figuratively getting that horse to water..... but....

Strangely enough the scoreboard only ever reflects the finish and not the rest of the work.

I dont see how we win now.  I see how we compete. I see how in the game-general we'll play better. I dont see us presently capable of finishing off all the hard yards with a winning score.

With Petty, Melksham and JVR out, and TMac looking like a steam train that has run out of steam, the only alternative would be to take a huge gamble on BBB's fitness. That would surely be too big a risk.

I would bring Harmes in for Brayshaw to perform the one role he is good at ---- putting a tag on Cerra to disrupt Carlton's midfield.

McKay's absence means we may be able to go with just two talls in defence again, although this does reduce Lever's flexibility.

Whatever Goody does, this will be quite a test of his ability to come up with some creative coaching.

Face palm only because it's been often stated Harmes has done a hamstring.

The problem is we are [censored] bringing the ball in..   thats why we have so many repeat entries. If we were any good we would actually have less entries recorded as we would score better.

We dont and that stat highlights it if nothing else.  We play a very nonsensical crowded game up front. We push, scramble, spin repeat and essentially hope for the best beause of pressure applied.

Its stopped being effective now. Can it be again .. i doubt it with who's available.

Carlton are much better in forward 50 craft.

Iv'e forgotten why Woey lost his spot. Did somene come back in.  I thought he performed well for one so young and deserves a shot at finals experience.

Not in the midfield . JJ to replace Gus, but small forward type role perhaps.
