Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Crowd Attendences

I lifted this from Big Footy so can't prove accuracy, but if it is, Dee's are doing a fantastic job pulling the crowds considering:

* 3 games where capacity was less than 21K (Hobart, Geelong [censored]-hole and Alice Springs). Not sure about Metricon.

* The number of home games we play at the G v interstate sides

* The massive leg up the top 4 are given with their fixtures and prime-time exposure (add Geelong next year when their [censored] stadium is finished).

Go Dees!

I say again. Why are we still playing Geelong in Geelong every [censored] year when the G and Marvel are vacant? Enough of this [censored].

It does, figures line up with the ones at AFL tables.

While that GWS abomination was the lowest crowd this year to date we also have 2 home games in the top 10 H&A attendances YTD as well (vs tiges and pies).

with figures this large, excluding that game doesn't make much difference. The average increases by 2-3k (estimate without me actually looking at the numbers].

I was asking because I was trying to figure out our MCG average. So it’s 9 games at 438k our average is just under Richmond’s at 48,660.

I really want the club to ditch the NT, and healthy figures like this make a good case. Selling games, giving up home ground advantage, and forcing a team in a premiership window to unnecessarily travel makes no sense to me.

I think the home match data is more important.  What was the club goal  for average home game crowds in the strategic plan.  Does this show us again of being one of the “Big four” Or five clubs in the AFL? :)

It was 75,000 members and average home crowd of 50,000 by 2023.

Remember this is an "on" year hosting anzac eve and kings birthday so actually think the club will be a little disappointed.

By that token last year was an “off” year and we averaged nearly 44k and were 4th for average home attendance (incl 6k against Port in Alice). We did play the pies twice so got that benefit.

We punch above our weight. We need to boost the numbers at the Norf, Freo etc games but we’ll do OK financially I think (even better if we can sell a couple of mil in Premiers merch).

Thank the Afl who make cats play the pies twice at the G and then give them the make up home game & we are shafted for that … the last 3 games v the cars have been away … having said that we played the blues twice at the G. the fixture pure and simple play each other twice then once away & home, if playing only once it should be rotated each season. Also mfc need to walk playing for points in the Alice as that lose May cost us top 2!

That number looks like it includes finals? Presume thats how we got 13 home games.

Well the estimate average is 44,000 if Alice figures are included and 48,636 if excluded.

Nearly double your stab Praha and the Plan says games at the G. That's what was meant and we are not far off it. If both Dees and Carlton had won say the two weeks prior to our May home game and it was a very cold night I have no doubt we would  be over 50,000 average with say 60/65, attending that game.

FWIW I think we will get between 40,000 and 48,000 at Hawks on Sunday depending upon the Breast   Cancer figures and no. Of Hawks that turn up or if it's a replacement game for them also.

So close to that 50,000 average despite the 2 big matches vs Pies and Tigers.

The biggest problem is that the Cameras very rarely show the Northern Side of The MCG

There was one shot i saw yesterday, and it showed very full Stands on the Northern Side.

We just have to keep winning….

What's pleasing and not noted is how many kids are at our games now.   Bodes well for the future

My 7 yr old started going this year and loves it. Plenty of Dees outfits at Auskick clinics too. Vastly different to the 1980s.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
