I'm starting this thread in the hope that I can see a few people joining me and really sinking the boots into this bloke. He is so ridiculously pro Geelong, so ridiculously pro-Bont, and so ridiculously anti-Melbourne. How does he get a job paid by the AFL?

He was the [censored] Chris Scott chose to tell his story about 6 Geelong players suffering illness night before the 21 prelim. Pathetic

When Cornes put a dees scarf around Barretts neck day after GF he ripped it off and tossed it on the ground. (cornes wore one)

I've been ignoring his opinion for over a decade now, my life and my view on footy is so much better for it.

Only show I watch nowadays that he is on is Sunday Footy Show, I watch it on replay so I can fast forward when he starts talking.

Ah, yes, the nosey vicar.

How does he hold he position when he doesn't even understand how an 'If/then' statement is supposed to work?

Sometimes he is annoying for a particular reason, but mostly he is annoying just because his seat on panels, his column space and his media bandwidth in general could all be occupied by something more interesting than the slowly deflating camp mattress that he offers.

The AFL needs all the allies it can muster to ensure the Demons are contained, forever. That's why he is paid by the AFL.

Speaking of anti Dees bias, a perennial favourite BT sounded like our Number 1 member on Friday. He was cheering us home, praising every bit of play late in the game and willing us to win. At the same time, Richo kept saying one more goal to Lions will win this for them.

I am not knocking Richo as I like his comments btw.

Wonder what turned BT. Maybe just wanting a great finish for the TV audience.

If I had to sit through as many neutral games as he does all I'd want is exciting games as well.

I noticed that, too. Very strange in those last few minutes how he kept announcing that Brisbane were cooked. Best reason I can think of is that he had the thought bubble that he thought was clever and then, in the BT way, just kept on repeating it loudly. The vanity of an Australian sports commentator is one of the most powerful human forces in the world!

Tell you what, if anyone sitting near me said 'Melbourne have won this' with 30 seconds left as Brisbane got a clearance from their defensive fifty, I'd select my share and sharpest couple of [censored] for them. It was a 50/50 contest from being a Brisbane shot after the siren to decide the game!

Generally, the commentary team "cheer" for the losing side so the game seems more competitive and engaging.
Happens in almost every game.

He had a crack at us this morning on the sunday footy show about the whole Brodie Grundy situation & said we have done a dis service to him by dropping him and showed Goodwin's media conference before the king's birthday game where goody said Brodie's at a club that values him

I Stopped watching The sunday footy show this year and feel a while lot better. It's a pretty awful assortment of buffoons when you think about it. And Lloyd has had it in for us his entire career and will write us off at every mention.

I've stripped back solely to podcasts and my fav is ABCs Corbin and Ben. ESPNs footy with champion data Christian jolly. And the Tuesday SEN segment with Daniel Hoyne where Healy/Cornes are about all I can handle. 😂

I actually have a friend who lives near Damian Barrett.

He is apparently a nice bloke with a wonderful family. You would never guess he was an "ambulance chaser". 🤣

Overall, I honestly never notice the media much when we are winning.

Like most of the media they love "controversy" because it sells.

Sadly there is a long list of "Melbourne haters" in the media. Tony Jones, Caroline Wilson, Jack Dyer (when he was alive), Mick Malthouse, Kevin Sheedy, Brian Taylor, Matthew Lloyd etc.

We just gotta keep winning Premierships to make them hate us more! 😉

You have my vote BDA. It makes for a more  sane existence.

I noticed this too with BT. It occurred to me that what we perceive as bias has more to do with commentators wanting a close, compelling game.

We have been in front in almost all our games for 3 years, and gone in as favourites in 90% of them. I think maybe he’s just barracking for a competition (but I don’t love this way of thinking as it humanises commentators, and I much prefer just to outright dislike them).

I think you need to realise that commentators barrack for the team that are trailing, or the underdog.. it is as simple as that. Commentators loved us in 2021. Like fans, we hate seeing the same sides win. Geelong get a lot of love as a result of their ability to stay relevant and rebuild.

The thing that annoys me about Purple is that he has somehow gone from 'newsbreaker' to thinking anyone cares about his football analysis. He couldn't know less about the way footy is played, yet is still paid to offer up his nonsensical dribble, and his co hosts sit there and take it.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
