Make sure they pump each other up. They weren't pumped up enough last game, we would have won if they pumped each other up more.

I wasn’t at that match but another member of the DA was. She didn’t sit (stand) with the DA (where you can’t hear much from the middle because of the ever-present noise), instead she stood with her family members at a quieter part of the boundary. She said she could hear the GWS players constantly yelling encouragement to each other, pumping each other up, instructing each other etc. Our players? Crickets chirping. She heard nothing from our boys. Not even the usually-vocal Ricky Lever was making a noise.

My guess is, Goody explains to the individual player what is expected and guarantees their place based on developing the relationship, and forming some kind of ease within them.

He has consistently shown that performance at VFL is not necessary, and often seems to prefer only one or two changes. Then occasionally throws this, four changes.

I still trust the club, but gee the end of last season wasn't great.

This one we have to win easliy, as confidence and to start our momentum, is mandatory to a successful season.

Nice post @kev martin. I take the view that if a decision doesn’t make sense, it’s most likely because there is information I’m unaware of (rather than the decision-maker is a fool).

If we assume selections are purely based on form, recent selections don’t make sense. Thus, I assume other factors are influencing selection.

I think Goodwin has a clear view of most of the 22 he wants to take to finals. Thus, Salem and Petty are picked as soon as they’re available. I was surprised Brown played last week (interstate game with forecast rain) but perhaps Goodwin views him similarly - if he’s finally fit then get him back in.

@binman’s argument that Spargo’s form dipped due to increase training loads and been managed makes more sense than any alternative argument explaining his form and selection.

Agree with @kev martin that Smith and JVR are likely going back to VFL to work on something. I’ve liked what Smith has brought to the forward line but not his opponents intercepting and influencing the outcome. I’ve loved what JVR’s done but think he gets caught behind too often. I’m sure JVR will be back.

Short-term risk for longer-term gain - at least that’s what I perceive to be the attitude of the SC.

Off topic, really pleased Woewodin is been given a chance. I hope he surprises like Bowey (2021) & McVee (2023).

He’s played one game since round 2or 3, and while he seems cooked and I think he’s owed a couple of games

I agree, to be fair to him he was good in the first couple of rounds before going down with injury, and did we really expect BBB to excel last week in the rain?

Wow so another 3-4 weeks with no Clarry? Obviously re-injured it at some point.

Read a lot of posts suggesting this has been mismanaged by the club. That is not always the case, sometimes players do their own work outside their designated rehab program in order to maybe get back playing quicker. Have we considered that this could be the case here?

this is the beginning of our exit from the 8 in my view

Completely underwhelming team selection ,mystifying in fact and no obvious change e to the game plan

Grundy and Max who we built a plan around are seriously underperforming and its hurting us

No  Tomo Say what? Harmes the butcher Spargo wonderpants Not AFL standard Jordon enough said

Hope our debutant isnt burned by this experience  Good luck BBB on your own mate

Well I’m still perplexed by forward selections but hope Melksham plays with that 2018 form, he’s always been an enigmatic player so who knows?Congratulations on 100 for the club.

Good stuff Christian, a great milestone, has been somewhat of a quiet achiever public wise, but we all know his value.

Well done DA, that is one impressive banner!

Go Dees!

Im not sure if Melksham is up to it. Played a two minute cameo in just over 3 quarters. Then wasn't really involved.  Surely Jvr would have been a much better inclusion. I get Smith didn't perform but it's not like we are overloaded with talls. I'm guessing Smith or Tommo as the sub in case our only tall in Bbb goes down. But I don't think Tommo has been included in the emergencies.Heaven help us if Bbb goes down.

Here's an idea put Tommo in and let Petty play fwd. Oh wait.

What a wasted experiment that was. Just when it started to work it got thrown in the bin. Brilliant. Why try it on the first place if after it finally gelled you were going to just shelf it? Goodwin has gone from inflexible to illogical.

I think in dropping Smith and ignoring Jvr, we may have lost this one at the selection stage.

Oh and  yeah, let's put a woefully out of form Anb up fwd to bolster our dysfunctional forward line .

Can someone with far more knowledge about footy and tactics than I explain to me why Tomlinson isn’t in the side to assist May and Lever down back in order to send Petty forward to partner up with BBB….

rather than relying on Gawn or Grundy who don’t have an ounce of forward craft between them.

Don't you remember that we tried the Petty experience playing forward?

Unfortunately it finally worked so we had to move him back in defence and relegate an in form Tommo to the Magoo's.

(This probably has its own thread somewhere) I hate to say it but I'm really not enjoying the Gawn Grundy setup.  Both are average forwards at best, so when one is in the ruck, you have a pretty useless player to stick somewhere.  Gawn's impact on games has gone through the floor, and I don't think Grundy has picked up the slack.  I don't think the team or either player is best served by having two specialist rucks in the team.  Doubt Grundy will ever be dropped, but I'd love to see JVR pinch hitting and having Max playing the same ruck minutes as he always has.  Feel like he's a wasted resource at the moment.  Just my opinion.

Yeah, what do you think he has said to Tomlinson for last 3 weeks.....The FD deserves no levels of trust when they clearly select favourites over fringe players who actually are in superior form.  Goodwin has utterly lost the plot.

Brings and out of form Charlie Spargo in...Here is an idea Goody put him wing lol.  Ridic selection that will not help us.

BB kicks 3 goals and gets an instant recall.  He is not a competitor we need.  He does not bring the ball to ground and is useless once it hits it....None of our style hits up leading talls what is the point of selecting a big floppy bloke that can't hold his ground.

Melksham?  Give me a break. I said before the year started if we are still playing guys like Melksham/Hibberd we are actually going nowhere fast.  Neither are the future and we got many more talented players under them that SHOULD be getting games into imo.

Dropping Harmes for JJ is the only thing he got right in another week of selection blunders.

We will be super lucky to beat St Kilda.  We actually need a new coach, i think SImon is going to find ways to bring us back to the pack...We are only going to have to put up with dodgy selections/favourites/dodgy gameplan for another 5 years or so until they work out he actually was the problem all along.

Lots of faith in the players....Zero in our coaching staff atm, with good reason.

Possibly, would make sense.

I find it hard to believe though that the club thought it was ok for him to be running days after it happened and then miss 6 - 7 weeks if there hasn't been a setback or re-injury.

Conditions last week were not ideal for tall lead up forwards.  Hogan at the other end had less diaposals than Brown and didnt hit the scoreboard at all.  Ben deserves another game to see where he is at and Marvel under the roof will give the MC a better look at whether he can fit back into our forward set up

JVR would most likely revel under the roof too

Lack of experience shouldn’t be a thing. They’ve been in the league for long enough. You’ve been to banner making, DP. It’s a lot of work but it’s not rocket science. 🙂

I also think the game being played in Alice might be the reason. They didn’t have a cheer squad there and maybe they didn’t have enough ppl to raise a banner. 🤷‍♀️

See above.  They just don’t have enough real fans.

Did you not see the ins? Spargoat to hold it down, couple of big pack crashing contests and marks incoming.

We already tried this earlier in the season.  Playing smalls like Spargo and mediums like ANB & Harmes at CHF.

A cunning plan that worked a treat so why not go around again when you're on a winner!

Jury is definitely still out on this, it was a calculated risk and hasn't beared fruit yet. Really hoping it can but we need a few more goals out of both.

Yes and it's not rocket science to take advantage of Demon Army's offer of shared resources either for the Alice game.  Oh well, just another disappointing moment from GWS.

But having witnessed our cheer squad in action, I'm just surprised at the lack of effort.  Good thing we've got the best cheer squad in the league 😁

There is a former prominent poster banished/defected to Big Footy who's claiming Tomlinson won't be seen again due to a very poor attitude.

Wrong re BBB brining the ball to ground, he's just not good at picking it up.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
